"We could sink this one easily enough, but getting on the other boat unseen... That's the problem. Also, I wouldn't count on pirates caring about friendly fire." Folzi climbs aboard a lifeboat. "I haven't survived this long by taking those types of risks. We've lost our advantage here... Maybe we'll run into these folks under more favorable circumstances."
(OOC: How many pirates are approaching and how many appear to have remained on their boat?)
Still grumbling about running away rather than standing and fighting Father Pat puts his equipment into one of the boats and then mans one of the lowering ropes - I'm picturing the boat is on some sort of davit like the lifeboats on the Titanic - and stands ready to lower when the command is given.
(OOC: what sort of test - I assuming strength based - to lower the boat successfully)
Lyra simply shrugs, the calm look on her face indicating shes not exactly surprised they won't end up fighting. She follows Pat to the lifeboats, but waits for someone else to join in at the ropes, since theres probably stronger people around better suited for the task at hand.
"I'll definitely put up a fight if they do chase us though..."
The pirates in the dingy have approached the ship near where rhe dingy will be lowered. They call out for someone to drop a ladder so they can board. The lifeboat attached to the party's ship has Niska, the disguised kids, Lyra, and the gnomes in it.
It's a skills contest if STR from two players at each wench. Pat abd Hrain looks like it. DC12 to lower it without problems.
OOC: It's very much like a Titanic lifeboat. 22 seater because dudes with armor and supplies added.

Nicknack walks over to Lyra and replies, "If they pursue us, we will pop over and wreak havoc on their ship, but I believe that right now, these kids need our strong gifts to shield and protect them. If we can get them to safety, we will take the war to the slavers. Today is not the day, though. Big fellas, lower away. I will drop the ladder for the pirates once our lifeboat is in the water."

Hrian and Pat easily lower the boat down as the then hear grappling hooks being toss and sinking into the ship's sides.
"We'll just help ourselves shall we," a haughty female voice calls out as she then quickly pulls herself on deck from the rope and then is followed by eight others. "Clear off then," the female shouts holding a pistol to the deck but the hammer is pulled back. "My captain gave you plenty of time to turn tail," she goads the fighters still on deck with a toothy sneer as the pirates around her chuckle. "Looking too," she then says, "I would have burned the ship without this flimsy parlay but he's striving to be diplomatic thanks to some new crew member who's been playing pranks on us since we set sail. The man's no better than a jester," she grumbles as her crew fans out to look over the ship as your party disembarks.
Nick drops the latter as promised and Hrian as well as Pat clamor down into the boat followed by Nick's lithe figure. Hrian and Pat go to the oars, Hrian joining Niska and Pat joined by Lyra giving big heaves. The boat begins to break away from the ship and into the open water with the heading Niska has already instructed Folzi with giving him a brief overview of the navigator instruments so she could help them row. Within minutes and several long heaves, the boat is well passed the other ships and they can see sails are being brought up while the other ship is changing course back to where they came as their former ship follows. Watching the ships leave they party notices the gunports closing as cannon disappear and on their former ship the colors appear again flying brightly in the midmorning sun!
OOC: Please move on. No retro-posts. You're currently in the lifeboat heaving to shore.
There is a small sail but Niska says the winds are much too strong and would capsize the boat in seconds but could be used closer to the coast. The children lose their seeming and return to their normal selves. It wasn't an ideal exit but everyone is alive, relatively safe, and most importantly together.
"I realize this wasn't the way some of you would have liked to have done this but I think we did what is best. The Traveler told me we had a friend on the other boat and it seems we did," she says motioning to the ships that are far in the hazy distance. "They aren't coming back for us," she adds with a tired sigh. It takes another few minutes of her pulling with all her might before she stops. "Rowing at this rate will tire us all out," Niska then says easing off the oar to allow Hrian to row alone. "How about we work out a system," she then asks looking around at the other rowers. "Captain and I shall share duties as Pat and Lyra share," she then explains look relatively hopeful. "We'll get to shore by nightfall I think," she then says nudging Folzi and pointing ahead to purple shapes in the distance low to the water line. "Have a look master Folzi," she adds.

Lyra shrugs. She sceptically looks back once more, gazing at the ships shillouettes fading in the distance. "Dunno if I'm much of a help. But sure. I'll try. By the way...do you know this place we're trying to get to?"
"It's an island on the chart called The Gales," Niska replies pointing the map in Folzi's hands."I will gain passage west as the Traveler instruction to get these children to safety. I think it's best to part ways there and you would probably move more easily without us," she adds before moving towards Folzi to look at the map.

Nicknack folds into himself, tucking into a corner with his spellbook on his lap. He mutters softly, fingers running over the copper-etched page before him. A distant-sounding, rasping, scraping scream carries across the sky from behind the boat, and a raptor plummets from the sky to dive below the surface of the water and burst forth a few seconds later with a pike caught in its jaws. The osprey settles onto Nick's shoulder and drops the fish in his lap with a splat. The gnome chirps and clicks softly to the bird, who responds by darting its curved beak at the wizard's eye. The wizard cuffs the bird gently on the side of the head and then looks at the rest of the group.
"She's a friend."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Folzi pulls out the spyglass and examines the horizon for the purple shapes indicated by Niska. "What can we find on this island? Do you know who controls it?" he asks Niska as he eye is stuck to his new toy. After looking to their destination, the gnome lazily scans the sky and the waters behind them.
"I am not from this land. I can only read the chart," Niska replies with a frown. "The Traveler tells me I will be safe in the west and to charter a ship with the children. There is a man on the island who knows my God and take us to safety. I should tell you that the Traveler admires you too master Folzi. He tells me you are just the kind of man to keep an eye on," she adds with a smile moving to look over the charts in Folzi's lap.
Folzi can see the purple shapes in the distance are in fact land. There's also an odd tower in the distance too that he surmises it's a lighthouse which he confirms keeping his eye out and noticing the flash of light in the distance.

"Hah!" Folzi nearly falls out of the boat at the aasimar's statement. He jumps up and bangs on Hrain's breastplate with his fist. "You hear that?! I guess not all the gods need their followers all spit-and-polished!"
He then turns back to Niska and eyes her a bit suspiciously. "What's god want, or need, with a trickster like myself?"
"Look after those mislead by duty. Especially the kind that seeks to divide and exhalt the few from the many," Niska begins. "People are misled by people," she then adds quickly. "The Traveler finds many flaws with the faithful of the Sisters but not the Sisters themselves. Be a joy to all and leave this world happier than you found it," she adds smiling now fir the first time Folzi can recall producing a small coin with a door at it's center with four orbs floating above. Niska gives this coin to Folzi. "You will know him by this symbol," she explains next.
