At Bakh's command, you move forward into the room with the whispers. As you approachthe edge of thecavern, you find nothing but a few worms crawling where the voices should be. On your right, you see a small cavern not visible before. Inside it sits a single wooden chest in the very center.
Zozzie moves into a position to cover Zbornak as she investigates the area. Ready to react should a threat present itself but still keeping to the cover of shadows. The ranger does his best to discern what might be going on, he racks his memory of natural animals and beasts that have displayed enough intelligence to be capable of vocalization.
Cadence, suspicious of the chest, ritual casts Unseen Servant. The invisible mass the will enter the side room and approach the chest — attempting to open it if it isn’t locked.
”Very odd behavior in here… Zbornak, you get any information from the worms?”

Zozzie tries to think of anything that might explain the whispering. Suddenly, it comes to him: whisper worms! Small worms that could imitate the sound of people whispering. They feasted on dead material, and were harmless on their own.
As he reflects upon the nature of these worms, Zozzie remembers a small tidbit about the unusual creatures: whisper worms often formed symbiotic relationships with more deadly creatures. The worms would lure adventurers in with their whispers, and the other creature would kill them. Once dead, the worms would feed on the adventurers. Whisper worms had been documented working with many different kinds of monsters, including ropers, cloakers, mimics, spiders, and many more.
(I won't respond to Zyrelle and Cadence's post for now in case this info would have changed your course of action if you'd had it sooner)
((I rolled a nature check for Zozzie to get this info. If you would rather I ask for a check and you guys roll, that's fine with me, but I went with this to avoid slowing the campaign and clogging the thread with lots of posts asking for checks and posting rolls.))
(OOC: I’m okay with you rolling, never sure what skill/tool a DM will want. And it does keep the game moving.)
In a low whisper, “Careful everyone, we’ve entered a trap of a natural makeup. We’ve been lured here on purpose. Beware that which is too inviting.”
The spirit raccoon (Night Watch) hugs Zozzie’s leg for protection. The Ranger looks up to check the ceiling before casting Produce Flames for some more illumination.
Cadence, learning of this natural symbiotic trap, continues with his plan to use the unseen servant, but informing everyone to be ready in case the creature the worms are partnered with makes an appearance.
She stows her handaxe and dagger, and pulls out the greataxe, looking around the ceiling of the chamber (ooc - how high is the ceiling in here?) for critters in the corners.
Eyes pop open as the unseen servant tries to open the chest, and sharp teeth form where the opening should be. The mimic lashes out at the servant, and is quite disappointed when it realizes it struck at nothing. It then turns its attention towards you, hunger in its eyes. Roll for initiative.

Zbornak looks around, a slight note of confusion on her face. She'll carefully approach the worms. "uh....hello?" she asks, quietly.

Suspecting magic might be at work here, Zyrelle starts ritually casting detect magic.

Amaranth stays central between the worms and the chest, ready to move towards activity.

As Zbornak approaches the worms, they burrow into the ground and the sound of incomprehensible whispering stops.
