Ardwynn steps aside just enough to get a clear line of sight at the figures about the gallows. Arcane words and weaving hand gestures fuel her Eldritch Blast
Somewhere, the slow, conscious part of Barn's brain is slowly turning over the strange tableau which confronts the party. He does not understand who this old woman could possibly be and why she is hanging from the gallows. Nor why her muttering seems to keep the ghouls at bay. The big man tries to discern whether the rope that she is hanging from looks like it will cut off her ability to continue speaking soon, or whether she looks familiar in any way.
But at the sight of the undead abominations befouling the wood, the instinctive part of Barn's takes over. His stutter is suddenly gone, replaced by fury.
"I don't know her but I've seen her! Back at a harvest market in town. YOU LEAVE HER ALONE YOU UGLY, SMELLY DEAD BULLIES!!!"
The big man charges as he roars, halberd in hand, yet his training stops him short to attack with reach from ten feet away. The blade of the polearm comes around for a deep slash before he attempts to smash with the haft end. By habit, he backs up 5' to ready a Polearm Master opportunity attack.
Movement: SW->SW->W->(Action/Bonus Action attacks with 10' reach)->N (backing to 15' away so enemies must enter 10' reach, to set up Polearm AoO).
Action: Barn attacks Ghoul A or Ghoul E from 10' away with his halberd, whichever is most damaged but still standing: Halberd to hit with 10' reach: 20 (dirty) Halberd damage: 12 (slashing)

(Barn then steps 5' back to 15' away from the closest ghoul so they have to enter his 10' reach to attack, prompting a Polearm Master AoO.)

"What IS that smell!?!?! What ever it is -- it is worse than the body parts rotting behind that old hut. Anybody able to see if that woman is still alive up there?" Ardwynn is moving about so she can get to firm footing and try another blast. (( when the INT comes around to her again )).
Caelen draws his bow as he drops back next to Ardwynn and fires an arrow at one of the ghouls.

Reg is unsure what is real and what is illusion in the strange woods that they have travel through. That which he thought was true turned to be false and the sights he didn’t trust were all too true.
He reluctantly pulls a small acorn from his pouch as he moves west, across the road. He scrutinizes every aspect of the scene (the figures, the fallow, the woman) looking for any idiosyncrasies that might give tell and betray that which his senses relay. He hopes to find that this too is a trick of the senses and a play by Ned or some other Fae folk of the woods.

Dismayed and confused by the sight of the dead moving in semblance of life the companions rally inflicting heavy damage upon their foes, Barns weapon inflicting two grievous blows that would have felled a living man, missiles from the others finding their mark and staggering the enemy.....Reg somehow seems to summon flames themselves into being setting one foe ablaze........perhaps gagging on the stench Ardwynns warding gestures seem to miss the mark.
The dead rush forward towards their new prey, some horrifically wounded but none have yet fallen.

The creature unnaturally swoops in to close contact with the trapper. “Uh, uh, what in the…”. It reaches for the stout man but his flailing seems to have deflected its touch. Conversely however, it has unsettled the old man as he grabs his staff with both hands, he continues to swing wildly, failing to connect with anything but perhaps the ground as it flips from his grip and drops to the road.
”Away you foul thing, back to the ground…oh, uh, ah, drats!”
Action: Attack staff, To Hit: 6 (nat 1, critical fail). Move: 5’ west, 5’ south, (not opening himself to any attack of opportunity).
Barn roars in excruciating pain and fury, though strangely not in fear, as the abominations (GhoulsA and E) close with him, not thwarted by his opportunistic polearm blow when they enter his reach. Blood sprays copiously from the big man's horrific wounds, reddening the forest floor (2/13 hp).

The muscles in Barn's arms and neck appear to tighten and spasm momentarily as the putrefaction from the odious creatures' bite and claw attacks begin to take hold. He falls to one knee, yet somehow, the big man grits his teeth and stands back up to bring his halberd around, pivoting to step through the gap between his enemies to place himself between them and the old woman who he vaguely recalls from a harvest fair in town.
"What are these awful things??" Barn keeps his eyes locked on the Ghouls but addresses her as blood spills generously from his mouth. "How are you keeping them away from you? We are from Ereworn, chasing a kidnapper. Old Ned who took Clotha." The big man's stutter remains absent.
Movement: 5' SW between his enemies to put himself "between" Ghouls A and E and the old woman. Maybe 10' more W if and when A and E go down.
Action: Barn swings his halberd blade at the the remaining foe in front of him who looks LESS injured. Halberd main attack to hit LESS injured remaining one of Ghoul A and Ghoul E: 13 Halberd main attack damage: 14 (slashing)
Bonus Action: Barn whips the haft of his halberd around to smash the remaining foe in front of him who (now) looks MORE injured. (OOC: obviously if one of the targeted Ghouls is dead by the time Barn makes an attack on them, he switches to the other one. If BOTH Ghoul A and E are dead BEFORE one of his attacks, Barn moves a further 10' W to engage with Ghouls B, C and F and attacks the most injured surviving one of them with the attack. If BOTH Ghoul A and E are dead AFTER both of Barn's attacks, he still moves 10' W afterwards to engage B, C and F, and help protect Oengus.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Smiling Jacks arrow suddenly jutted from the dead things neck, Barns halberd came across twice decimating both his foes and dropping them to the ground, Caelans shaft jutted from another corpses shoulder as Jack saw Barns foe fall and switched targets to throw at the one menacing Oengus.
Reg desperately tried to defend himself, Ardwynn attempted to assist him but whichever energies she was attempting to access did not eventuate.....
Oengus placed a hand on Barns shoulder, " Steady, friend. Braveheart."
