Jhess History Check: 19

J'Sahriel groans ever so quietly when the man mentions the Red Jackals.  She'd hoped they could avoid the attention of such groups, but it would seem that wasn't going to be the case.

She steps forward a bit nervously.

"Umm...what if we don't have 30 gold to pay you?"

Eman whispers towards Berlyn; "Would the coin be reimbursed by the university?  If so, I'll pay him, so that we can move on."

"It's 30 galifars, pretty thing," the shifter licks a sharp tooth as he looks the half-elf up and down. "Or you get roughed up."

Berlyn, you think this guy might be bluffing, but you aren't 100% sure.

"Okay, okay!" Emanuel calls out, as he rushes up towards the shifter.  He struggles with, but eventually pulls out his coin pouch.  "It's 30 galifars, every coin I have.  Now back off." His hand raises to his shoulder, towards the hilt of his sword; but stops short.

"That seems a bit much," Berlyn finally says. "How about 10 and leave us be. I don't think you really want to trifle with the likes of us." She looks him directly into his eyes and gives a little wink.

9 - Insight

Lily looks over the shift and attempts to guess his intentions and whether it seems he might actually be truthful in his threats or if he's simply bluffing in hopes of garnering extra coin...

Fin is pretty certain that this guy is bluffing.

The shifter looks at Eman with a narrowed focus as it seems he is about to pull out his sword. The shifter makes no move to come closer to Eman or the party at large, especially after Berlyn's threat. "Tch. You'll be sorry you tried to cross me." Suddenly, the shifter runs off in the opposite direction of you and the rate at which he runs is quite inhuman as he disappears into the darkness.

(Berlyn, next time roll an intimidate! Since you put a threat in what you said, that's more of an intimidate than a persuasion sorta thing. If you left it at just "how about 10g instead?" that would be a persuasion, but you were leveraging what you said versus the threat of tangoing with the party. Just explaining my reasoning!)

"He was lying anyway." She smiles at Eman. "Next time, let me work my charms darling before you start whipping around coin."

"Oh... Oh, um, okay." Emanuel is clearly confused that the man ran off.  "I... I'll do that next time Lily.  Just didn't want anyone to get hurt."

"We should take extra caution from here forward. Whether he was lying or not, he almost certainly can rally others against us if he wishes."

Trigger presses onward, his pace unchanged.

“I figured we would find out soon enough if he were bluffing. Thirty galifars, indeed.”  Berlyn shakes her head then asks, “Who are these Red Jackals? Do you think he was really in league with them?” 

"I have never personally encountered the 'Red Jackals' myself. The gangs down here are constantly in Flux. But no one bandies about using the name of a gang that they don't belong to or doesn't exist. Such bravado attracts the wrong kind of attention."

"Then we should move quickly." Eman adds, picking up his pace.

"Agreed," J'Sahriel adds quietly as she glances around furtively while they continue onward.

Still shaking her head, Berlyn follows the warforged with J’Sahriel. She tries to remain very aware of their surroundings while taking shallow breaths.
