Hello anyone reading this. I’ve been looking for a play by post game for what seems like forever. I’ve recently become a dad and don’t want to give up playing D&D, it’s difficult to play live/with video&audio because of the baby so I believe text based is the perfect place for me right now. However, it seems more difficult to find and be accepted into this style of campaign I didn’t realize how many people were interested in the same, I’ve applied for dozens and just haven’t been lucky enough to be picked out of the 50-100 applications. If you’re looking for a semi experienced player I’m your guy! Been playing D&D 5e for about a year now, I have some experience with other table top RPGs, big fan of Critical Role, love the RP element of D&D but also a big fan of combat as well. I have several character ideas already there are a couple I want to play over the others but at this point I’m willing to just fill in a role that’s needed if that’s what I have to do. Pleaseeee if you have a campaign that’s looking for a player consider me, or if you know of a campaign that sounds like they might be interested in someone like me send me a link! It’s hard for me to scour the internet while having a baby to take care of and I’m on the brink of giving up. Thank you to anyone that helps/considers me for their campaign!!
i am a very new player, and i recently have been having trouble finding multiple players to play with in person. me and my friend started about 5 months ago with youtube, this site, and the starter kit. but we have been limited to just the 2 of us and then my roommate who is also very new. i want to play with at least one experienced player, but haven't found one in person yet. i am now looking into the idea of distance playing. i realize its not for everyone, and i dont even think my current companions would both be interested in post to play, but i absolutely am. idk if you found a group, but if not maybe we can call our group a goup of 2looking for more players and a DM? idk just an idea. let me know if you wanna team up to organize a group.
Probably just a player. I do have an idea for a campaign but I’m not sure if I’m ready to DM yet lol. Although something text based might be a good place to start. I’ll think about it
hi text only would like to play with you guys im newer than you about 3 months in dm a game (oneshot)but have not played as a player and would like to if thast ok
fair enough. DMs are just hard to come by it seems. especially in the text based format. I'm an experienced player just haven't DM'd, so i know the rules and such I have all the books, just don't have an entire campaign worked up. And you can have an experienced DM that's still terrible just throwing that out there lol, had some not so great experiences. I love the RP aspect of dnd, but RP all the time can get boring so i think there needs to be a good balance of combat and RP maybe 60% RP 40% combat? Also if i were to DM it would start out as a one shot or maybe just a handful of sessions, once the players completed the short campaign i would make note of how they went about things and it would affect the world in the "actual" campaign which would take place several years later. That way we would get a test run as me being a DM without anyone needing to make a long term commitment, or feeling bad for not enjoying it. If it sucks then i wouldn't continue on with my campaign we would either go our separate ways or try to find a more skilled DM. It just takes honesty, if you don't like something the DM is doing just say so, if they're a good DM/person they'll take note and correct the problem as long as it's reasonable. But me DMing is totally hypothetical right now anyway i was just saying that it could be a possibility. I really think it'll be difficult to find a DM. I've been looking for a while now and a lot of things are like big groups with too many people posting, or they aren't active enough, or they have 1000 applicants and you don't get picked, I've applied too many times i hate it. It's the worst feeling in the world finding an awesome sounding campaign applying thinking you gave a really good applications, getting invited to the discord, then finding out the process isn't over you were just lucky enough to make it to the second round but there's still final cut and oops sorry you don't make it in the group. lol sorry turned into a mini rant. Just this online dnd stuff is brutal, it's hard to find a satisfying, long term group. If you are lucky enough to find one usually you're the new person in a group that's been playing together for months or even years so they're all super comfortable with eachother and you feel like the outcast not being able to fully enjoy it because it takes so long to feel like a part of the group.
well now we have 3. nice to meet you unknown. my roommate may be persuaded to join this group and make it 4... i will see what i can do. he is very new as well, but i feel he would be willing to DM. i actually am starting to get more ideas related to being a DM, and i absolutely am open to what the players want and i welcome critique. lets start talking about what kind of campaign we want to have, and what kind of characters we have in mind. personally i like the idea of starting at level 3 or 5, but thats not a requirement.
I thought you were hoping for an experienced DM and that's why you weren't comfortable with me doing it. Either way I'm fine with a DM that's still learning. Starting out at level 3 or 5 is nice but ultimately that's up to whoever decides to DM. If they're new they might want to start at level 1 so they have time to learn/get used to things before the crazy stuff comes along.
i would like an experienced DM, but the more time passes, the more i start to really get a handle on D&D. i watch at least one video a day related to being a DM. i would prefer someone with experience, but hey, the game is all about different experiences. no 2 games are the same. as long as we follow the most basic rules, and clarify any variations from said rules, using a session zero, then i think we will be fine. i dont want to just sit around and not play at all in hopes that an experienced DM comes out of the woodwork and saves the day lol. i would like 3 or 4 PC's tho... i have played with 2, and even 1 PC and its obvious that 3 or 4 would be better for the adventure.
Are you rolling for stats, standard array, point buy? And if you’re confined to this island that means a couple backgrounds wouldn’t make sense right? So no sailor or like far traveler?
Looks like you have like 5-6 players already lol so I won’t post my character in there being a first time DM I don’t want to over crowd you. Hope all goes well and have fun!!
its ok 6 will be fine. we were supposed to team up to find a game remember. if anybody has to go i would kick the warlock/druid who just joined right before i closed it.
if you say so! so are you rolling for hp or are you having people take the average or do you have a rule like "if you roll for hp and you roll shit take the average."

i have not found a group yet, and i would be down for that!
ok cool. sorry for the late reply. are you interested in being a dm? or just a player?

i am very new, and while i have been watching a lot of youtube videos, i prefer to have an experienced DM with a well planned adventure.

lets just go 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 for the stats
So standard array then got it.
Looks like you have like 5-6 players already lol so I won’t post my character in there being a first time DM I don’t want to over crowd you. Hope all goes well and have fun!!
