Cloudfur gets really close to Dori after he asks the question, and whispers to him in an eerie voice...
"At harvest time, when death revisits the twilit world and summer’s blossoms bow their withered heads, eerie scarecrows loom in silent vigil over empty fields. With immortal patience, these stoic sentinels hold their posts through wind, storm, and flood, bound to their master’s command, eager to terrify prey with its sackcloth visage and rend victims with its razor-sharp claws......." and he lets that moment of silence hang between them before adding "If you would rather camp out in the snow to watch for them perhaps that would be a wise idea."
Dori listened to Cloudfur's description, then nodded his head in approval. "Then I will meet this creature head on in the battlefield. " The goliath leaving the barn to wait out in the snow covered field
(OOC - are there any windows on the first floor that look towards any nearby woods or some place that would seem logical that a creature might come from - basically with Gargan and his super dark vision looking the one direction, Cloudfur would like to look in a different direction to get better coverage - perhaps a different direction even than the way Dori wanders off to. Also I have 60 feet of darkvision as well.)
Cloudfur watches intently out the window, his fuzzy ears constantly readjusting and honing in on different sounds, occasionally he will sniff the air.
The window in the 2nd floor is on the front of the barn which faces east towards the side of the house. There are no windows on the main floor in that direction - only on the sides. So yes, but you would either be looking straight north (at the shed) or south (to the road). You could probably safely perch on the roof of either the house or the shed, but you'd need a stealth check there. I need stealth from Dori too if he's going be out in the field.
Sizan had shook his head, having nothing more to add to the inquiry. Though a mental note was made to check out the previously attacked farmsteads for more potential answers should their first night of watch prove fruitless. As for the positioning of looking out, he'll up position opposite of whichever Gargan had chosen. But if there's time before night fully falls, he experiment with coating his dagger with poison from his fangs.
(@Tanzier For clarification, Yuan-ti do not have the poisonous bite attack. Only Poison Spray cantrip that I flavored as him spitting it like a cobra. If he cannot produce enough to coat a blade, then that's fine.)
(60ft of Darkvision.)

When you realize you're doing too much: Signature.
(I would normally say it is something that would to be prepared ahead of time, but you've got at least a few hours so it's reasonable this time).
So you each take up your respective spots - Gargan at the east window, Sizan at the north, Cloudfur on the roof of the smaller building, and Dori outside near the house. Two hours go by. Three. Four. Five. As dusk starts to fall you start to wonder if this was worth it, but it appears the (dice) gods are with you today. While the sun sets on the horizon, you notice some movement coming from several directions.
Sizan - you see a figure hobbling towards the house from the west, in between the barn and the shed Cloudur is on. It moves somewhat slowly and awkwardly, but it matches the description you've been given, including a sackcloth on it's head.
Cloudfur - in between two trees to the north you also see a figure approaching - this one with a rotting pumpkin for a head.
Dori - You settle in in a grove of bushes behind a well behind the house, and you see approaching from the north east a third figure which you assume is a scarecrow but looks like a man dressed in tattered clothes and a worn, torn , filthy blanket wrapped around it's head with holes cut for the eyes and mouth and held in place with a rope wrapped around it's neck.
Gargn - You got a bit bored and were distracted when this was happening, so you don't see anything immediately.
All three move fairly slowly, have glowing eyes and make little sound. At this point it appears they haven't seen any of you. They are all walking in the direction of the house.
Initiative:
Dori 9
Sizan 11
Gargan 6
Cloudfur 16
You will get a surprise round on them as well - they haven't seen any of you yet.
Catching sight of the blanket head, Dori wastes no time in running out from behind the bushes, charging straight for the scarecrow. "I am your combatant, stoic sentinel. Your razor sharp claws against my mountain weathered fists in hand to hand."
Though fairly calm on the surface, seeing the creature make its way closer warranted a second's worth of marveling. In the next moment, he sends a dart flying in its(Sackcloth head's) direction. He hardly waits to see if it finds its intended purchase before moving out to the front of the barn door(facing the house?) to call up in a terse whisper. "Look alive! We got company from the northwest." He calls up before moving to hide behind the barn on the southern side.
Action: Dart Attack Roll: 16 For: 10 of non-magical piercing damage. (Sneak attack included from attacking unseen).
Bonus Action: (if possible, though if not ignore) Hide action. Stealth: 25.
As he spots pumpkin head wandering towards him he'll whisper quietly while pointing his hand towards the creature and wiggling his fingers and thorny vines will spring up out of the snow and grasp at the creature.
Cloudfur: Vines come up through the snow covering the ground around the scarecrow. Several of them reach out and wrap themselves around it's legs, stopping it in it's tracks. It looks down at it's legs and then around in shock, letting out a bit of a shriek. You ready your staff for some druidic ass-kicking.
Sizan: You send a dart flying towards the creature, lodging it directly in the side of it's torso. It shrieks and immediately looks around, trying to figure out where it came from but you are nowhere to be seen.
Dori: You run towards the third scarecrow like a freight train and just crush it in the chest. It flies backwards onto the ground, looking entirely like it has no idea what the hell just happened.
Gargan up next, then Cloudfur again in the first normal round. Full order is Cloudfur, Sackhead, Pumpkinhead, Sizan, Dori, Blankethead, Gargan.
As Sizan suddenly bursts into action nearby and whispers that he has spotted something Gargan wakes up from his thoughts. First he looks to see if he can see at least two of the scarecrows from his vantage point.
If he can see two of them from the window then he will take time to study them to see if he can make out what manner of creature they might be. (Not sure what skill you need for this one so here's a perception:19 for now.)
If he can't see two of them then he immediately moves to get down and exit the barn as quick as he can, dashing if he needs to and still can to make it outside and get a clear view of at least two of the scarecrows.
With determined focus upon seeing Pumpkinhead caught in the vines he goes "Yes!" and hops back and forth on his feet then makes another snapping motion with his arm and wrist and a thorny tendril shoots from his hand lashing out at the trapped creature.
[Thorn whip: 16 Damage: 3] and will opt to not pull the creature towards him - leaving him trapped still.
(OOC - the plan is to keep attacking him at range until he dies or breaks free then engage him in melee)
Gargan - you move down to the front of the barn with Sizan. Looking just around the corner you can only see the one closes to you (Sack). could still take an action.
You are a bit perplexed initially, seeing that they are in fact .. scarecrows. Old worn clothes stuffed with straw and rope tied around them in various places to keep it together. If it wasn't walking, you wouldn't think anything of it if you walked by it. You are now quite certain they aren't humanoids dressed as scarecrows and in fact doubt they are living beings at all, but magical constructs created by someone.
Gargan's firebolt flies through the air and connects with the scarecrow, setting parts of it ablaze and causing it to falter and sink to one knee. It roars as it bats out the flames and looks straight at you. This attack seemed much more effective than you expected.
Cloudfur: The whip extends out from your hand covering the distance and cracks him in the side. It shrieks again at you in anger and stares what seems like directly into your soul. Fear begins to overtake you. Make a wisdom saving throw.
The sack head barrels directly towards Gargan and takes two swipes at him with it's claws, missing the first but landing a quick slash across your shoulder for 3 damage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dori stays on top of blanket head, never giving the creature a moment to react after being knocked to the ground. The goliath running up with a massive foot brought well behind hims then kicks it into the side of the scarecrow again and again.

Ok I still need positions and perception rolls from Cloudfur and Sizan. If Dori prefers to be out in the field that's certainly an option ..
