"That is a very vague condition. If you needlessly put us in peril, I will leave you to your fate. If the village rises and threatens my freedom, then I will defend myself to my last breath. I yielded once, to my father. He repaid me with exile. I will not surrender my freedom ever again. If you vow to protect our freedom as fiercely as I will protect mine own, then I will vow to do so in return. There are challenges we are not ready to face alone. Having allies will be necessary until we come into our own."
"Good. Good. I think that will just about do it." Logi turns back and walks towards Larry and the old woman, hopefully now equipped with directions to the leadership of the village.
"Alas sir, we are lost travelers. We recently ran into some goblins not far from your villiage. Can you tell us what defenses you have here? Is there any besides the guards at the entrance? Is there any holy or religious leader in this villiage? As well, where is the nearest town or keep?"
"You ask a lot of questions, traveller." The elder says to Larry. "If you are worried about goblin attacks, you are perfectly safe within these walls. Our people will guard any in need, but if you are after a town it is three day's travel to get to Strol. Please," The elder gestures for Larry to take a seat on the floor with the others. "Tell us your tale, traveller. Do you have any companions?"
Logi enters the room, sitting beside Larry next to the elder. "Yes. Yes he does. Our story, I'm afraid may have to wait. The goblins we ran into, as my friend has already related, carried something that may have some meaning to you." He holds out the silver pendant that the girl had on her before her demise. "Do you know who this belonged to? Or where we might return it?"
Upon producing the slightly bloody locket, the elder's eyes widen slightly. One of the accompanying men gets up and quickly goes over to look at the locket. "H-Haley's..." The man says. "Where did you find this?" The man looks worried, it is most likely he has a close relationship with the damsel, and judging by the similar hair colour they may be related.
Logi's eyes fall, and he bites his tongue in hesitation before speaking. "Is it safe to speak freely here?" Logi looks around the room at the unknown faces in the room.
He turns towards the elder and the man who stood up."What we must share ought to be private."
Logi nods respectfully to the elder. "Very well. We came across what was left of her in the woods about half a day's travel from here. The goblins... they didn't leave much to identify. As far as we could tell," Logi grimaces for a moment, recounting the horrible sight, "they had her pinned down and stabbed her with spears. Then they set fire... I'm so sorry. By the time we got there, there simply wasn't anything left. We slaughtered the goblins, and I found that amulet on one of their corpses. We were able to find our way here, and that's all we know."
Logi sits down, his face a mask of grief at the retelling.
The human man seems to be stunned as each sentence comes from Logi's mouth. His eyes watering up as he begins to weep. "My baby..." He sobs, collapsing beside the elf for emotional support. The elf, however, doesn't seem that emotionally conflicted.
"A sadness indeed." The elf responds, looking to Logi and Larry. "You mentioned the goblins burning her. If you could, I would request you to show some of our folk to where this happened, so we can recover her remains for a burial as per the traditions."
Logi nods somberly. "Of course, of course. I would gladly do so. I can lead an expedition to the place, tomorrow perhaps? If you wish, I could also show you the remains of the goblins. We pursued them a ways from where they burned her. When it was finished, I made a pyre of their corpses myself. That, at least, is some small measure of justice." Logi pauses for a moment. "Though, for tonight at least, I am afraid we must beg your hospitality. We have traveled far on this unfortunate day, and must rest before we continue on our travels. I shall be waiting tomorrow morning by the gate for whoever wishes to accompany me back. I understand that you are mourning, but our business is quite urgent further on, and though we were fortunate enough to find your village, we must make contact with our friends in Strol. Is there any chance that you could part with a map, or at least a thorough description of the way between here and there?"
The elder thinks on this for a moment. "You will have shelter for the night. We have a few homes that are currently available. Feel free to take your companions there and rest tonight. Tomorrow, we will send a search party with you to look into this matter."
On the way out, Giacomo will approach the man that appears to be the woman's father, "I don't think Logi is aware or remembers, but I kept, umm.. Haley's clothes. If you would like to have it back, they are in my pack. But I warn you, it speaks of brutal violence. If it's any consolation, I'd say she died quickly."
Upon Giacomo's words, the father bursts into tears again, sobbing on the floor. Looks like he cared very much for the girl.
Regardless, the group is shown by one of the villagers to a small hut not too far away. It has some basic floor mats for sleeping on and a small fire pit area at the centre. The group is given use of it for the day and night so they have somewhere to rest and place their packs while they plan their next move.
Giacomo stands above the sobbing man, shaking his head, "We are strangers to these lands, but on our very first day here we had to fight a band of goblins. You have a wall to protect your village, so obviously it is not safe out there. Why would you let her out alone, defenseless?" Giacomo doesn't wait for an answer and walks away.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Back in the tents, Logi takes a few minutes to make certain that any talks that occur within the hut will not be overheard.

Apparently satisfied with his search, he proceeds to sit upon one of the mats, steepling his hands on his chest and humming softly to himself. "Giacomo, would you come with me tomorrow on the expedition to the girl's pyre? If possible, I want to see if we can find the trails left by the goblin pursuers." He looks around the room. "Any of the rest of you are welcome to join, as well. If you are so inclined."

(Logi, please make a Deception check with advantage, as your story is backed somewhat by Larry's words.)
