“Excellent observation. I would like to examine this one, first, for obvious reasons” her curiosity clear.
Twig walks into the room, eyes fixated in wonder on the stunning display of winged insects. Moving constantly to examine every butterfly in the room, but also looking for anything out of place. After a few minutes she then pauses to examine the living ones, glances at Rivana momentarily, and turns her attention back to the winged creatures.
“How long ago did you say that this house because vacant?”
To Garth Twig says, “I am hesitant to touch the gem or the liquid, the gem feels like a trap, and the liquid makes me nervous. What on earth does glowing liquid do?”
“So these butterflies are either new, which I doubt, or that yellow gemstone—or something—has magically kept them alive for 20 years.”
Twigs eyes widen at the implication and she is suddenly more interested and wary of the gemstone. She examines it closely, but is careful not to touch the jar it is in.
Twig can't tell for sure, but the gemstone looks like an ordinary, if extremely valuable, gemstone. There is no unnatural glow about it or plaque that says 'Magic Gemstone!' or other obvious signs that there is something magical about it.

“If you’re okay with it, I say we examine the room with the purple liquid, but if there’s nothing apparently out of place or noticeable that needs to be done, let’s go see the other rooms and then what’s upstairs. Perhaps we need to look at all of them to see a clear course of action “
( assuming everyone’s OK with this, if not, we can go back and edit as necessary. Otherwise, moving on )
Twig walks into the hallway and goes to the room with the decanter of glowing liquid.
She purposefully examines the room, and avoids touching the decanter.
Twig finds nothing out of the ordinary with the comfortable sofa and chairs. The coffee table also appears to be normal. The decanter looks to be glass, but that liquid is definitely glowing purple.
"I think I know what to do!" Garth motions for the group to follow him, and he goes back to the room with the glowing stone.
"Everyone stay here in the hallway, and get ready to close the door when I come back. If we were in a tavern I'd tell you to hold my ale." He cautiously entered the room and walked to the stone, brushed the butterflies off of it and snatched up the stone, then dashed back to his companions in the hallway (assuming nothing happened to prevent him from running out).
Garth grabbed the non-glowing gemstone from the glass jar, letting the three live butterflies flutter out in the process. He dashed into the hallway and closed the door, but not before he noticed all of the butterflies on the wall begin to flex their wings. Upon entering the hallway, he noticed that the gemstone isn't as valuable as they originally supposed. It's still valuable, at 100gp, but not near the 1,000gp that they thought it would be worth.

(Assuming Garth told us what he saw)
Twig, a bit perplexed, eyes the stone warily. “So...it kept the 3 butterflies alive....and it kept the dead ones on the walls...dead?”
“Was there something special about the dead ones? Why would they just come alive once the stone that apparently sustains life is removed...?”
Twig is befuddled and can’t seem to gain any traction on this front.
After a little bit of thought, she has an idea “Oh! Perhaps it was the 3 butterflies in with the gem that were truly the magic! And by releasing them, it cast or broke some spell on the room,” the fair tabaxi says excitedly.
(Assuming we are in the purple liquid room)
Twig leans her head out into the hallway, listening closely for any sound, especially that of thousands of butterflies beating their wings.
Twig can't really hear anything out of the ordinary in the house. A bit of a draft, some creaking when Rad shifts his weight a bit, and not much else.
Rivana looks at the Gem with some initial disappointment and then with a bit more excitement. "I told you guys there was treasure here! I bet that's worth at least a hundred gold! How much more is in here, do you think?" She begins to hum to herself and walk lightly around the room, excited at the prospect of easy wealth.
Rivana follows behind Twig as she heads to the end of the hallway and Rad mechanically follows behind her.
Twig opens the door at the end of the hall and sees a large fifteen by thirty-five-foot rectangular room that once served as the manor’s kitchen. The room has several work tables and a large fireplace dominates the north wall. There is a large collection of cooking utensils and pans. A row of clay jars rests on a shelf along the south wall. Sitting on the largest of the tables is a wooden bowl containing three oddly-colored apples. There is a bright blue one, a bright red one, and one that is yellow. There is a narrow stairwell that leads up to the second floor on the west wall and a door to the left of the fireplace that appears to lead outside. There is a small door on the east wall.

Twig takes a step back, surprised and confused. She goes to the nearest jar of rice and scoops out a small handful. She returns to the impossibly dark doorway and tosses a bit of rice into the blackness. A few grains at first, then a few teaspoons, about a tablespoon, and then the rest of the handful.

They are apples. And they are very brightly colored. Yellow, red, and blue.
