As the party starts digging, the hear the sounds of a bell pealing. As they look over at the Lord Protectors tower they can see a man on the battlements striking a bell.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Company. Halt!" D.O.R.K commands at her least her goblins. Something clicks and whirrs in her head as the construct tried to focus on making out details of the man; namely in an effort to discern if these were panicked/warning dinging, or possibly signaling something else altogether. Meanwhile, Vark alongside a very grateful Beedo climb out their pits to look for any signs of approaching danger to the town.
Short of being proven right to be concerned, D.O.R.K offers to keep digging while others find a lunchtime respite. "It may be prudent to do so in town, in case the event we were warned off takes place there." She would say.
But in the event things /aren't/ quite so simple, she makes a motion to Beedo; who after an exasperated sigh takes off ahead of the group(double dashing with Cunning Action and Full Action). D.O.R.K and Vark linger, if only to goad the others into rushing back to town.

(OOC: you’re actually in the centre of town. The northern campground is in H6, the Lord Protectors tower is in G7.
After a period of continuous bell ringing you start to see people wearing armour, assorted weapons and mounted on horses start to gallop up to the Lord Protector’s tower where they dismount and go inside.
Hearing the bells ringing, Torunn puts his tools away, wraps up Beedo's finished armor and grabs his musket as he goes to see what the commotion is on about.
Heading to the centre of town he spots the group digging. Whistling to get Beedo's attention, he signals him to come over to get the armor.
As beedo fawns over the armor, (I assume he will), he gets caught up from one of the others.
(@Grant: I thought we were in the northern campgrounds, because it was the place the mage mentioned. My bad)
D.O.R.K is hesitant at first; but, in seeing Torunn arrive, she nods in thanks to Devin. "We will be back shortly. Bee-..."She catches herself upon spotting the goblin; who managed to both fawn over and put on the armor at the same time, ditching his old leathers in a heart beat. Shaking her head in mild amusement(?), she motions for Vark to follow her. "Do be careful, for we do not know the full extent what may lie here."Vark passes Devin his shovel at that point, and with a final salute follows D.O.R.K to the Lord Protector's tower.
She leaves Torunn with a short hug, her shovel, and trust that the others would explain things on her way out.

Devin realises as he clears away some dirt that he has come down on some sort of metal strap that is about a foot wide and a couple of inches thick that disappears into the dirt on both sides. To expose this much has taken him about an hour after the others have left.
"That's... quitter... talk." Beedo says breathily despite laying on his back. For all his gusto, if the goblin wasn't already collapsed from digging, he surely would've been well on his way by the time Devin calls a quit. And yet, he still had this excited gleam in his eyes. "But... hey... if ya... if ya wanna stop... don't let me... stop ya... oh boy."

OOC: can't I use my holy symbol as a focus istead of material components? And I thought domain spells didn't require them but I must be wrong. Even if I did, as it is a lvl1 domain spell, surely I could argue I would have the material components for it?
(@Zip & Grant(?): Domain spells are just spells that you don't have to prepare. So, you are still subject to the spellcasting rules (unless exempt by DM) that come with a specific gp cost material like every other caster unfortunately. Part of reason why most level 1 wizard for example usually avoid picking it up early as -- outside of rolling for gold and getting a good result or getting a gp early campaign handout from DM -- there's just no way to get enough gp from the start.)

What he's not said explicitly is if a spell has a component with a specific price attached, that specific item worth that amount must be used. You can't use a focus to get around it like you can regular components that don't have a price attached.
"Ah, very nice. It can't be more than a few feet deep or the spell wouldn't detect it."
Watching them get to work he offers to help.
"Say the word and I can dig for a while."

You are in the northern campground. The southern campground is across the road and bit to south west of the Lord Protector’s tower.
Devin keeps digging and about a depth of three feet his shovel hits something with a clang.
DM - Stopping a god in his tracks
Devin stops digging and gets down to see if he can figure what he has found. He scrapes dirt away with his hands and will dig around the thing.

Lukian stays with Devin, so if there's a shovel handy, he'll help.
After an hour of digging Devin still has no idea what he has found but realizes it is much larger than what he had hoped to find.
"I was hoping for a buried chest or even just an item." He tells Lukian.
Let's rest and see what's going on. I don't think we'll get this dug up any time soon.

Torunn walks up to Devin and Lukian, "I might be able to get an idea of what it is."
He then climbs down into the hole, putting one hand onto the item. "Gond, I ask that you lend me your knowledge so that I can identify this artifact."
He closes his eyes and focuses to see if he can get any idea of what it is.

Lukian looks at the object to see if it is familiar (perhaps something he read about in one of Uncle's books), asking for guidance.
