(Does Devin still have the horse he got from the guard and rode back to Harshnag on?)
Devin is generally sullen and quiet through the first couple of days of the groups travel north. But over time his his mood does begin to slowly improve. The first day of the trip he would have found a place to bury Lukian under a cairn of stones. During the travels he would have explored the use of his magic, often getting up early and spending time in meditation. He found his magic was still there, the Lady had not left him. Devin knew enough from his studies that his powers were not innate but granted to him by The Lady of Mysteries. The fact that he still had them left him comforted at least that far, that she had in fact not abandoned him. He was not wholly pleased with the loss of Lukian but he began to understand that saving him was not the will of the Weave. The Mother of Mystery did not need to explain to him what she willed or allowed. Lukian had served another god and it was not Her place to interfere with what that god allowed to happed to its servant.
Time would have been spent in conversation with the others. He explained to Mullo and Ilezenya of their mission.
"The best we know is that the Giant Ordning has been destroyed by Annam the All-Father and the different giants are now battling for places amongst the hierarchy which will be recaste. The Fire Giants are seeking to rebuild some sort of construct as a way to elevate themselves. The cloud giants have been collecting lost artifacts from the past as a means to elevate their position within the giant hierarchy.
Somehow also some sort of blue dragon may be behind these things, manipulating behind the scenes. Great powers are at work. Another, who had traveled with us for some time had told of a dream the leader of her order had.
My superior's dream was of ants and lizards, but I now see that they did have a deeper meaning, though not all of it makes sense, even now. My superior dreamt of an ant nest full of massive ants. They flew and walked around, performing a variety of tasks, some bringing food, some bringing rocks, while some ants carried others into the center of the mound. Then a huge foot stomped the entire mound to bits, while a blue-scaled lizard watched from the bushes. The foot could be giants, I now see, but what the lizard is, I do not know.
And another told us of this dream
Our Lady High Priestess dreamed of the giants in the same order. Only, all of them had a replica of Our Shining Lady’s coin on edge in front of them. She says there was a great bang, and the giants set off rolling the coins in front of them. Then, she awoke. Prior to the giants, however, Tymora, in the form of a silver bird, flew out from the land over the sea."
"We seek to solve this issue and set things right. But there is still much we do not understand."
"We have had others travel with us for a time and then leave, for one reason or another." He pauses a moment "Or death in the case of Lukian. But each was a servant of a god. And you also seem to be cleric's of a sort in service to your gods. In the beginning we left from Waterdeep, representatives from our respective orders. We followed the signs and clues of the disturbances and that has lead us here."
During this time Aslan, Devin's pet Tressym, would fly around and compare himself to the steed of Mullo. He fancied himself in some sort of kinship with the steed as they both had wings. He would other wise dart around and hunt. But mostly he slept, curled up in his spot on Devin's pack, sleeping for hours on end.
As they approach Xanthral's Keep. "The nights are getting cold and better clothing and supplies may be needed. I can keep us fed by my magic and Ilezenya's hut seems a fair way to stay safe from exposure and rest. Some ale and new would be helpful though. Let us go."
Ilezenya listens to all of the conversations. "I am not much for conversation - my apologies. Dusk Wardens often travel alone, in isolated areas, and my Drow heritage separates me from even the other Wardens. But I know Selune has tasked me to join this cause, to help restore the balance and order. But, as the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does all life."
When they get to the town, Ilezenya will pitch in his 15 gold pieces to help equip the party with winter clothing, cloaks, etc to help them withstand the cold mountain temperatures.
(OOC: really enjoying the way the characters - particularly Devin - are getting into the story. I'm now moving to milestone level increases and sometime during the journey Devin and D.O.R.K. will go to seventh level. Ebonitus and ilezenya will go to sixth level. Ileznya somewhere along the way you've picked up an uncommon magic item of your choice - my bad i meant to make sure you had one before you joined the party. I'll put up a post tonight.)
Mullo listens with interest to all Devin has to say about giants and dreams. She nods and replies, "We have received troubling news: Many war parties — usually one or two fire giants traveling with orcs and orogs — have been spotted leaving the mountains, and I have witnessed many more cloud giant sky castles overhead as if they are searching for something." She nods again, her customary scowl deepening. "The reports have filled my own thoughts and dreams with giants."
Catching Aslan playing around the pegasus, Mullo comments to the tressym's human, "Your pet seems to have taken a liking to Haetone." She says this with a hint of amusement in her tone of voice, and the Uthgardt doesn't look quite as sour as she usually does. "If she were a few years younger, I'm sure she would love to join in on the playtime. I can tell that she finds your tressym's exuberance pleasing."
During the travels Devin would have explored the use of his magic, often getting up early and spending time in meditation. He found his magic was still there, the Lady had not left him. He knew enough from his studies that his powers were not innate but granted to him by The Lady of Mysteries. The fact that he still had them left him comforted at least that far, that she had in fact not abandoned him. In fact far from it, one morning he found that his powers had increased considerably and he was now able to call on a level of magic that he had previously unable to do so.
The more perceptive members of the party would notice that D.O.R.K. had of recent drawn more back into herself than was normal and every task over the past eight days that she set to is done in a truly robotic fashion. Even the closest thing she had to a hobby, that being the drawing in the dirt or constructing small minimap out of whatever could locally be found for the sake of constructing battle scenarios is completely absent from her daily activities. Whether this was due to the fact that she was trying to assimilate hew new powers or symptomatic of a more fundamental problem with her processing unit is not clear to them.
During the journey, D.O.R.K. spends hours handling Dawnbringer’s hilt and speaking to it in a low voice. For the first couple of days, Dawnbringer is silent almost as if it is grieving the loss of Lukian. Then one day after D.O.R.K. had almost given up hope she hears a voice in her head.
Response from Dawnbringer
Greetings friend of Lukian. He was a true believer in the power of light and I will miss him terribly. However together you and I will carry on his fight to banish darkness. But we will have to watch the Drow because he seems to embrace and relish the darkness!
One night whilst Ilezenya is on watch, the party is awoken by the light of the moon. The New Moon has risen but somehow it is putting out the light of a full moon which is bathing, almost caressing the drow. The next morning Ilezenya finds that his powers have also increased.
At some point in the journey whilst the party members are relaxing in the howdah on Golemogote’s back, the elephant suddenly stops at an unusually shaped pile of dirt that is glowing with some sort of iridescence. Before the party can do anything, the elephant has sucked up some in his trunk and turned and sprayed it all over the party. Coughing and spluttering they dust themselves off but afterwards Ebonitus feels that he is even closer to his goddess.
It's the morning they reach Xanthral's Keep that Devin awakens early to begin his meditation. He feels particularly at peace that morning finding it easy to reach his meditative state. Deep in his meditation he finds himself surrounded by the blue-white stars of The Lady of the Weave. One star looms huge in front of him and suddenly engulfs him as his eyes snap open.
When he finds D that morning he can't help but be excited.
"D! Our Lady of Spells has blessed me further. This is a sign we are on the right path. Why would she grant me further power unless we were doing something right!"
Devin has not been altogether ignorant of D's recent change in mood but maybe just a bit too self-absorbed to do anything about it. But the loss of Lukian has shifted his priorities in way he wasn't sure he understood fully. But he was still quite self-confident so he decides he needs to see what's up. He gets right to the point.
"What's up D? You seem off your game lately. At the House of Wonder in Waterdeep we studied the other orders and I know a little of your order. You serve the Lady of Stratgey. Part of the Red Fellowship I presume. Your use of careful tactics in battle to achieve victory, under the belief that sound strategy was the best way to win a battle with the most favorable outcome has been excellent. Why do you doubt yourself? Is it because Torunn left? That was hard, I admit. He was your builder, or creator right? I'm sure he's OK. He was tough as nails. You're tougher. It's been an honor to serve next to you, to fight by your side. We're on the right road, I know it. Six days ago things seemed bleak, but now... it's changed. What do you need? How can I help you?"
One night whilst Ilezenya is on watch, the party is awoken by the light of the moon. The New Moon has risen but somehow it is putting out the light of a full moon which is bathing, almost caressing the drow. The next morning Ilezenya finds that his powers have also increased...
... He also wakes up wrapped in a fine and sturdy cloak that is somehow lightweight and almost wispy. It almost resembles the dusk light bathing the half-drow during the night, wrapped around his form...(Cloak of Protection)
(@Grant: In fairness, we did promise to help him get back, so it would be rather meanspirited of us not to do just that.)
(@Rhanloi: Aaaaaaee! Nice working in the hotfixes for the character. :D)
Before...
During the journey when Danwbringer finally speaks to her, D.O.R.K. is -- for just a moment -- looked taken aback at first, and then even made the motion of breathing a sigh of relief. But almost within moments after all that, the light of her eyes dim again as if being reminded of something said. Still not fully understanding the nature of the blade, she would say in a low voice again a response.
- Greetings also partner of Lukian. Your council will be heeded, though I do not think things are so simple with the Drow. This journey will serve to illuminate much in that area. As for carrying on his fight... This operative will do what they can until we find a more suitable partner for you. For as you can perhaps sense, I am bound by my... my Creator's will, and must priotize the grand strategy of hers above all else. If this is acceptable, may we carve a better future together. -
After which, apart from listening for a response and possibly attuning to the sword after, she sets about her usual duties...
The events that come after are all taken in stride by the construct. Ilezneya would find her a touch more attentive of his presence and actions from time to time, but never obtrusively so. And of the day of the day they were to reach Xanthral's Keep, Devin's enthusiasm isn't met by much fromt he construct. She would politely listen like always, and even nod in agreement to his assessment. As far as she was concerned after, that should've been the end of it. She recalled, if vaguely so, young humanoids quickly bustling off to share good news with all of their fellows when one source wasn't as animated, before engaging in demonstrations of their new powers. Instead, there were questions and offering of both insight and assistance.
While she would initially cant her head partially to the side at the first question, the rest is met by a blank faced stare, but a polite silence until Devin finished speaking his piece. Even then, she is quiet for a good long moment, as if trying to fully process it all. Finally, D.O.R.K shakes her head. "You are mistaken. Upon further self reflection, my tactics were deemed sloppy. Some would even say painful so, if it was possible to feel pain over a topic of that nature. Furthermore, I no longer doubt myself. In fact, I have simply come to fully accept what my -- What the Lady of Strategy expects of me.Torunn's departure and the death of Lukian has only made it all the clearer. And to clarify, Torunn was not my creator, though he assisted in part of my construction. However, his teacher, his god, and my goddess are responsible for my creation." She explained, still hollow voice throughout the entirety of it.
"I am still processing what I still need. Your desire to assist however has been logged, and I will get back to you if the situation changes. For now, you should stay focused on the mission, and the others, as they may require your guidance."

For the majority of the trip, Mullo wears her usual scowl, though the party finds her to be kind and compassionate. She is rarely curious, and she spends much more time conversing quietly with Harshnag or Haetone than with the others. She participates in meals, hunting, and all of the things it takes for the group to survive and travel together, but she is definitely somewhat on the periphery. While the group rides atop Golem, she either rides her pegasus bareback or walks beside her about half and half — both generally beside the giant ahead of the rest of the party, but she does not wish to lead, the party intuits. She readily accepts the leading of others and offers her own version of wisdom usually to build up as opposed to overtaking.
When the party encounters rain, the wild woman's countenance changes. Her scowl becomes a grin, and her eyes sparkle. She is much more talkative to everyone (though still not an excessive amount). It is during these times that they hear stories from her past and actually learn what makes Mullo Mullo. They learn that because she was born marked by Uthgar and his father, Tempus (the pale splotches on her left side), she was revered from birth, and her parents' status was elevated within the tribe. Mullo was given every privilege her people could offer. She first trained to be a mighty warrior and protector, but when she began to exhibit the powers of the storm — another gift from Uthgardt and Tempus — she trained to be a shaman. She quickly became the primary spiritual leader of the Sky Pony tribe, even providing leadership to her elder shamans. They learn that the tattoos on the insides of her forearms and the strings of trinkets that adorn her leather straps are a way of communication — that they explain her status to other uthgardt. And the strange, oddly shaped block that she wears at the end of a leather strap around her neck is part of a pegasus's hoof, and it is her spiritual focus. She tells them the story of her first solo hunting trip at the age of 12 and the wolf she tracked and felled. She tells them about several battles with the orcs from the mountains. She tells them about the birth of her first child and how disappointed she was when he was not marked as she is. She tells them about the birth of her second son, and how happy she was that she had been blessed with two healthy offspring. She tells them about the night Tempus punished her tribe with a mighty storm that took a few of their tribe, including her sons' father. She explains her tribe's practice of raising and training pegasi and that the pegasus she had loved the most — an older brother of Haetone — had died not long ago. Most of all, they learn that Mullo loves her tribe and is on this journey to protect them.
When lightning accompanies the rain, however, Mullo is always silent and is clearly listening. Sometimes, she will even fly on Haetone's back to spend time within the storm.
Haetone, the party learns, is (as Mullo said) no dumb animal. She is responsive to them when they speak to her in Common, and even responds with head movements and a variety of noises when Ilezenya tried Elvish and Celestial. She is strong and (quite frankly) more enjoyable to be around than Mullo, though the pegasus clearly enjoys being around the wild woman.
When the party reaches Xantharl's Keep, Mullo is even more dour than usual. She is clearly hesitant to enter the city, even using Haetone as an excuse to remain outside. However, the pegasus conveys that she thinks Mullo should enter the city with the others and so she does ... reluctantly.

On the way to Xantharl's Keep, while Ebonitus is communing with the Earth Mother in his morning ritual, she comes to him and imbues him with extra resilience and more powerful healing abilities.
As she recedes, Ebonitus is filled with new resolve - he has been replaying the battles leading to Lukian's death over and over, trying to think what they may have done differently and realises that they need to have D.o.R.K.'s strategic mind to develop sounder strategies for future battles. To this end he seeks D.o.r.K.'s company each evening and sets up scenarios in the dirt and encourages D.o.R.K. to help him develop strategies to overcome the obstacles.
Persuasion: 14
After Devin's enlightenment, Ebonitus communes with Mambo using the Helm of Telepathy "We have found a method by which we can return you to your home. Do you wish to leave now, or would you travel with us a while longer?" As they get closer to Xanthal's Keep, Ebonitus begins to think that it may be more difficult to explain the presence of a fire elemental, though moving into the mountains it may be useful to have a source of heat and fire...
When they get to Xanthal's Keep, he is intent on buying a chess set (or equivalent strategy game) that he can play with D.o.r.K. in the evenings.
Devin won't be put off quite so easily. "Has she left you then, The Lady of Strategy? Does she imbue you with no more skill, is she displeased with and withdrawn her hand? I feared that Mystra had done so with me but I was wrong. She strengthened me and filled me. This can only be a sign that she is pleased. Is not the same with you? If we were so wrong and doing so poorly would they not leave us and find others to fulfill the quest?"
He pauses a moment,
"So just what does the Lady of Strategy expect of you?"
D.O.R.K is initially reticent each time the earth genasi comes requesting her assistance. There always seemed some duty or task that need completing or requires her complete attention; even during times in which necessary rest stops should've left to idleness out of the party. But, at least once or twice, assuming Ebonitus remain persistent in at least building the scenarios in her presence in hopes of encouraging her to participate, she does at least chime in with corrections ranging from simple logistics to geography and expected mindset of enemies given historical evidence. There's even a point in which she ends her insistent need to stay on guard to help in the construction of a battlefield; a liveliness returning to her in the process.
However, and perhaps not even by any fault of Ebonitus own, direct or otherwise, elements of their last big battle start to leeking into a particular scenario. At which point she abruptly stops assisting Ebonitus, citing a need to get back to work or Harshnag and Mullo being better suited. Whichever excuse seemed the most appropriate at the time. And after that, she makes it next to impossible to broach the subject without being politely redirected or refused altogether.
Next with Mullo...
As Mullo tells her tales, if any of the right the conditions are met, D.O.R.K at least listened passively and somewhat at a distance, as the living construct seemed determined to carry out some task or other: even if that task is simply keeping a lookout of the area. The spark of curiosity never really kindling as it might've once in the past. Rather, when Mullo had her full attention outside of when it was necessary out or out of respect, the construct seemed more interest in studying her physical movements. If noticed and confronted on the matter, she'd only remark with a "Your physical integrity is very impressive."
While not a lie, the words are clearly meant to distract from the fact D.O.R.K seemed to be studying Mullo physicality as one would an opponent, searching for weak points. Or one would an ally in search of points of improvement.
Back to the Present...
D.O.R.K bows her head slightly and looks to the earth. "You misunderstand The Lady of Strategy. She does not simply discard the faithful, regardless of their failings. The granting of further power is also not always an indication of pleasure in the individual actions or a reward, but rather at times... a necessity, should an individual be physically capable of withstanding channeling her miracles."She looks up to Devin with cool yet brighter than the recent norm eyes. And yet strangely in the moment at least, her voice wasn't as hollow or neutral as they had been before, but instead almost ...warm and patient, like a teacher explaining things to a student. "I was created in advance to help answer an inevitable disturbance caused by giants. Until I cease to function, or this disturbance comes to an end, I am expected to fulfill this purpose. Nothing more, nothing less. Only a complete and intentional deviation from this purpose will result in a withdrawal of her grace from me... But even then, I will likely still be serving the greater Stratagem, as such a deviation will be anticipated."
She then rest a hand on her chest, just over where a heart would normally be on most humanoids. "Even I was mistaken at first. Naive. But, recent events have forced me to come to terms with this. There is yet more to process, but... I am confident this is the correct interpretation of things. I will adapt, rest assure." She then reaches out, standing on her tip toes as necessary to put a hand on Devin's shoulder. "Thank you as well... Devin. It seems you have already proven to helpful, as saying these things aloud has further affirm my course." Then sort of out of the blue, she looks away whispering (not that Devin wouldn't overhear anyways), "I should consider a new designation soon as well."
"Well I need you D. You've taught this street rat a lot about fighting. I guess if we can't adapt we can't grow. Improvise, adapt, overcome. That should be your mantra. We'll see this mission through, I know it. I lost sight for a bit but I'm refocused. We'll figure it out and set things right. You'll get your edge back, I have faith in you."
Devin says.
During the talks Devin enjoys hearing the stories from Mullo, of a world he didn't know. He also tells his own stories of growing up on the streets of Waterdeep, of the adolescent trouble he got into, of street fights and exploration. He also spoke of how he would often hide in the hills outside the city to escape city life and there met Lara the druid who saw in him the skills of magic and helped set him on the right path. It was Lara who brought him to the House of Wonder. Speaking to the priest Lara had him accepted into service within the temple under the tutelage of the priest and service to Mystra.

I'll bite ... insight: 10. OK. But as this would have taken place in the rain when Mullo is more open ...
The construct seemed more interested in studying Mullo's physical movements. Catching the wild woman's analyzing look, Dork explains, "Your physical integrity is very impressive."
Mullo pauses, her eyes clearly trying to analyze the construct — in a somewhat similar way as to how she had just been being analyzed. How unusual this armored creature is. Lifelike, and yet not. Is it alive? Does it have a soul? Does it bleed? Mullo's face softens once again, and she gives a nod, rain water rushing from her hairline and down her face. She'll let this armored cleric feed her eyes to full. Mullo has a feeling she can be trusted. The others seem to revere her enough to be fairly constantly encouraging her to be their leader. How strange these outsiders are.
D.O.R.K actually cocks her head to the side in confusion. "My... edge?" She repeats, genuinely sounding confused for a moment there, but then rights herself. "Oh. The faith is unnecessary. I have no desire to get back my battle axe, as it has been entrusted to Vark to hold and wield for however long it is serviceable."She explained. "But, thank you for the concern, Devin. And while I am not sure I can accept the provided mantra, it will be kept in mind for consideration." She added, and with that, unless Devin or the others had more to say to her, she returned to her near robotic activities ensuring the camp got packed nice and well that morning, before the group find themselves later striding closer to the keep.
Which as they grew closer, D.O.R.K eventually thinks to call up to Harshnag and asks, "Have you been to this keep before? If so, were there any troubles the last time?"

Before the party can do anything, the elephant has sucked up some in his trunk and turned and sprayed it all over the party. Coughing and spluttering they dust themselves off but afterwards Ebonitus feels that he is even closer to his goddess.
DM - Stopping a god in his tracks
How can I help you?"
... He also wakes up wrapped in a fine and sturdy cloak that is somehow lightweight and almost wispy. It almost resembles the dusk light bathing the half-drow during the night, wrapped around his form...(Cloak of Protection)
Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?

Greetings also partner of Lukian.

Tirohia te Moana - Level 2 Cleric - What shall we do with the Drunken Sailor?
Ebonitus de Viribus - Level 4 Cleric - The Storm King's Thunder - The Gods Respond.
Earlier with Ebonitus...
Deception: 18.
(if insighted by anyone)
While not a lie, the words are clearly meant to distract from the fact D.O.R.K seemed to be studying Mullo physicality as one would an opponent, searching for weak points. Or one would an ally in search of points of improvement.
Back to the Present...
D.O.R.K bows her head slightly and looks to the earth. "You misunderstand The Lady of Strategy. She does not simply discard the faithful, regardless of their failings. The granting of further power is also not always an indication of pleasure in the individual actions or a reward, but rather at times... a necessity, should an individual be physically capable of withstanding channeling her miracles." She looks up to Devin with cool yet brighter than the recent norm eyes.
When you realize you're doing too much: Signature.
I have no desire to get back my battle axe, as it has been entrusted to Vark to hold and wield for however long it is serviceable." She explained.
