"Quiets" Meep hisses as he sets the box down and reaches for his horn in one hand, rapier in the other. The kobold peering as far into the darkness as he could, sniffing at the air to catch a whiff of whatever approaches.
(I’ll count the 19 perception for both Dhara and Meep.)
Dhara inspects the cloak closer, it seems pretty obvious to her that the item is enchanted, but she can’t pin point its properties.
Meep takes a deep breath, catching the scent of wet fur and a slight sent of ammonia. You would recognise this as you would occasionally encounter it around your home’s tunnels. It is rats.
Dhara, now that the sound is louder and clearer, recognises it as what used to be a nuisance around her home - rats. But while she had encountered one or two at the time, this sounded like more than just two.
Dhara quickly reassembles the items in the crate and sets it aside (to fix it up later) and draws her dagger and sword. She casts Thaumaturgy and the color of her eyes shifts from silver to black. If there is any shadows or such she can hide in she will attempt to do so (stealth 20), or if not she will take the dodge action and wait for the incoming swarm.
Dhara - You are in a tunnel with a floor level that is 5 ft lower than the rest of the room, so you could get up and crouch to hide or just hug the wall? Or would you prefer to dodge?
Halhace, you would not be certain what is making the sound, but it’s probably some sort of rodent.
Also, a note to everyone, the tunnel you are in is around 5 ft wide so only approximately 2 of you can be in front fighting if you all stay in there.
Sound is coming from where the channel (- yeah sorry) exits the room, at the top of the map. You can climb out of it, but it's 5ft tall so Meep might need help getting out. (the squares on the map are approx. 5x5 ft)
Dhara yells out "Up and out, quickly!" She slides her crate up on to the ledge, pulls herself up, turns around and reaches down to pull Meep up, and then help others with crates etc. She then casts Fog Cloud in an area 5' back from the ledge (like below).
"Everyone in! It will hide us!" Once everyone is up and in safely she will dart in herself, hide, and listen carefully to determine if the rats will pass them by or get close enough to attack.
With little else to do, Halahce will copying the movements of Dhara and make his way into the fog cloud if he is fast enough. "This may hide us from whatever is coming but it will blond us just the same."
Meep puts the blade away before quickly reaching up for Dhara's hand and running into the fog. The kobold breathing slightly heavier as panic of being overwhelmed by swarms of rats infesting his home tunnels races through his mind.
You hide in the fog cloud and wait. The scratching grows even louder; whatever is making it is now where you were in the channel. The scratching slows. You hear a few squeaks and then the scratching sound grows quieter until you can barely hear it.
Whatever it was has passed. You are once again alone in the room.
Jaylen says to Kamos "Yes. A large number by the sound of them. No point in unnecessary conflict when we can avoid it so easily. You aren't seriously suggesting you would rather be covered in rat bites? I can heal those. But only so often until I need rest."
Halhace will step out of the cloud and move to look down in the channel to see if the rats at within the range of his darkvision. "I for one am glad we did not have to bother with the rats. I would rather not be forced to learn what those vile things were carrying with them."

Oh, so this tunnel is open at the top? More like a channel? We could climb out of it?
Do we know what direction the sound is coming from?

Meep shook his head at Kamos as he slowly made his way out of the fog and toward the channel. "Next time don't hide then, but Meep gets your stuff."

Halhace, you see no rats in the channel in either direction.
