There is enough resentment and defiance between the groups, that you won't be able to determine the truth of the sergeant's words. You can't tell the depth of the lake after you've already muddied the waters, so to speak.
(If you wanted to know if there are actual orders for a city lockdown, you could have consulted the Iron Gate guild, like Reverie suggested earlier. I figured your group suspected something sinister was going on, so it wouldn't matter if the order was valid or not.)
Ana isn't moving fast enough, and is talking too much, to the sergeant's liking. Sergeant shove (with a guard helping): 15 vs. Ana's acrobatics: 16 Despite the sergeant and a guard both trying to shove Ana into the warehouse, Ana sidesteps, using her magic cloak like a bull matador. (You can still chose to willingly enter the warehouse after Brin, but you aren't forced in. And you've made the sergeant look foolish.)

Easily avoiding his grasp, Ana goes inside along with the others, casting light on her staff to illuminate the place. She didn't need it, of course, but Reverie and Isk might. She braced herself mentally for what they might see there, as well as taking stock of what spells she might need for fighting surrounded in a small space.

Reverie smiles in surprised when Ana moves rapidly and let the sergeant making foolish of his action. As soon as the light turns on, Reverie smiles and nods at Ana. "Thank you, Ana. Also, it was a great move." Then she follows behind of Brin, looking around the small space to see if there is anything curious.

Reverie Forestgleam—Human Paladin Level 5 in Frontier City of Nunkreet Extremely busy and busy as ever recently, but I will trying to catch up as much as I can
The warehouse door is in the middle of the south wall of this building. After everyone is inside (including the sergeant and guards), the door is closed. It takes just a moment to look around. The ground inside the warehouse is almost bare dirt and dried stubs of grass. There are small piles of garbage scattered about, but not much else. There is a table in the middle, messy with food that the sergeant was eating. There are multiple chains lying on the ground, with (empty) manacles attached to the ends.
Near the west wall are two prone people. One is filthy and covered in ratty rags. The other is in a uniform and mostly clean. You don't have time to notice more (unless you want to spend an Action), but you do notice that both are shackled in chains.
There is no surprise round, but two things happen before the first round of combat:
The 2 guards closest to Reverie and Trimyrai gesture at them. Despite no signs of them preparing a spell, they (simultaneously) cast Hold Person.
The sergeant's body starts bubbling and pulsating. It grows larger, almost ogre sized, until it becomes a blue slaad. (A slaad vaguely resembles a bipedal toad, in the same way that a saber-toothed tiger resembles a house kitten.) Its talons rake the ground, and the air around it shimmers and warps, as if in distress at this being from the plane of Limbo. Three members of the party have faced a red slaad before, but you can tell this thing is more menacing.

To keep initiative simple, the guards will go first, followed by all five members of the party, then the blue slaad.
Right now, the party is clustered a short distance inside the warehouse. The benefit is that everyone is within 10' of Reverie, so you get a +2 for your saving throws due to Aura of Protection.
There are 4 guards, one near every party member except Ana. The blue slaad is 10' away from Ana, and moving towards her.

Reverie Forestgleam—Human Paladin Level 5 in Frontier City of Nunkreet Extremely busy and busy as ever recently, but I will trying to catch up as much as I can
Trimyrai and Reverie stiffen from the Hold Person spell. Trim is freed by Ana's spell. Reverie WIS save w/bless vs DC 15: 12 Reverie is still paralyzed.
Iskander feels a strange urging from Brin to attack the guard, and then Isk strikes twice more. The guard's leather armor is no match for this dark glaive. Total damage of 44 points.
Ana's body is covered with points of light, like the night sky. She unleashes a starry arrow, which hits the blue slaad for 6 damage.
The blue slaad skin bubbles around its wound. With troll-like regeneration, the skin smooths over, leaving the blue slaad unharmed by the recent attack by Ana. Since Ana ducked behind Trimyrai, the slaad moves next to Reverie to take advantage of the paralysis. It bites at her, and slashes with its claws twice (all with Advantage).

The guards are staying near each of the party members (except Ana). Ranged attacks (like Trim's bow) will be at disadvantage due to their proximity. The guards seem alert, but you notice that last round only the one near Brin attacked, and this round only the one near Iskander attacked.
The guard near Iskander took 44 damage. The guard didn't react to the massive damage it took, other than to calmly call to the slaad: "This one threatens our survival." The slaad was lightly damaged by Ana, but regenerated back to full health.
Brin has Blessed the party (add 1d4 to attack rolls or saving throws). Everyone has a +2 on their saves, due to Reverie's Aura of Protection.
Iskander should roll a WIS save (vs DC 15), or suffer the effects mentioned in the previous post.
Reverie is paralyzed by Hold Person. She just took 46 damage from the slaad. (Sorry about those damage rolls.) She can roll another WIS save (vs DC 15) at the end of her turn to try to end the paralysis.

edit: seems like the first attack rolled two dice as if it was a crit...?
(OOC: You reminded me that I have to be careful about Bless in any games that I play.

So if you change the Attack roll to be "1d20+1d4+1" to include Bless, then the script will think that a 4 for Bless is a critical.
