Glyn (22) is awake for 1 & 2. Ian (6) is awake for 3 & 4. Rock (6) is awake for 1. HDP (4) is awake for 3. Gruxx (13) is awake for 4.
During third watch, five wolves attack the camp. Ian and HDP are awake (barely) and not paying attention. Glyn is trancing, and Gruxx is sleeping. Everybody is prone (either lying down or sitting).
Wolf5 vs. Gruxx Attack: 23 Damage: 8 — Hit! -16 hp
The campsite in the Conyberry ruins is suddenly pandemonium! Growling, barking, yells of surprise and pain fill the night. HDP and Ian, who were supposed to keeping watch are now wide awake, as are Gruxx and Glyn. HDP and Gruxx are also bleeding from two savage attacks each.
Who goes first? Party=1, wolves=2: 1
Party, you were surprised last round, but you can go now at the top of Round 2. All of you are prone. It's all close quarters, so we won't worry with a map. All of you can post in any order!
Glynquinal focuses on the closest wolf, and understanding Gruxx needs some light to fight well cast Chromatic Orb and thinks of a hot bonfire as he casts it.
HDP, who is almost dead, is laying on the ground, bleeding profusely. He slowly manages to push himself into a standing position and puts his hands on the wounds, reciting an old poem his mother taught him as a child. As the gentle words come flowing out of his mouth, his wounds magically heal for 10 healing from the Cure Wounds spell.
Looking around at his companions struggling against the wolves, he will recite the lyrics to a ballad he has been working on, and give 1d6 bardic inspiration to Glyn.
At dawn the ridge emerges massed and dun In the wild purple of the glow'ring sun, Smouldering through spouts of smoke-like breath that shroud The menacing scarred slope; and, one by one, Wolves creep and topple forward to the mire. The barrage of teeth gnashing. Then, clumsily bowed With swords and daggers and battle-gear, Friends jostle and stand, meet the bristling hair. Lines of grey, muttering faces, masked with fear, Leave your bedroll, its time to fight, While time ticks blank and busy in the night sky, And hope, with furtive eyes and grappling fists, Flounders in mud. O Bahamut, help us now!
Also, as a reaction, on the next wolf attack, HDP will use Cutting Words and subtract 3 from the wolf's attack roll. Since I can do so after the roll but before knowing the result, maybe it can apply to a wolf attack that is over 15 or something like that. I will let DDP use his best judgement...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ian, in a daze at being awoken so suddenly, will stand and unleash an attack with his rapier and dagger at the closest wolf as best as he can, still blinking away sleep.
Since it is all in close combat, I will roll sneak attack as well, assuming we are all in such close proximity as to make that come into play here.

Inspiration die: 2
All five of the party members hop to their feet in response to the surprise attack. HDP immediately begins reciting a poem as he heals some of his own wounds.
Feeling inspired by the poem, Glynquinal draws a diamond out of his component pouch and, speaking a short arcane phrase, runs his free hand around the gem. An orb of fire appears in his palm, and he tosses it at one of the wolves attacking his friends. Unfortunately, he is still a novice magic user, and he overestimates the amount of physical strength needed to toss the magical orb. It flies just over and lands behind his target. There is a short burst of flame, and then the fire goes out.
Rock, on the other hand, a rage building within him, grasps his greataxe and swings at (3) one of the wolves harrassing Herr Doktor Professor. His weighty blow crashes down on the canine's back, breaking its back and also cutting it in half. (Wolf3 dead)
In the same vein, Ian jumps up with both blades in hand. He aims for (2) one of the wolves attacking Gruxx. The jab of his rapier catches the creature through the neck. As he extracts the weapon, a great gout of blood follows it, and the wolf collapses. He then turns to (2) the other wolf attacking Gruxx, lunging forward with his dagger. The blades does a small amount of damage, but it is still damage all the same!
Gruxx joins Ian in his second attack, swinging his glaive at the wolf and doing further damage to the canine. (Wolf5 -8hp) It is still standing, but its fur is darkening with blood.
Wolf1 lunges again at Herr Doktor. (Attack: 17 Damage: 4) As the creature comes at him, the bard attempts to use magic-laced words to distract and protect, but the wolf's speed is too great, and it is still able to take another small bite out of the elf.
Wolf4, after glancing quickly behind itself at the small gout of flame, lunges again at Glynquinal. (Attack: 14 Damage: 6) The rogue, however, is prepared, and is able to deflect the attack.
Wolf5, spurned on by something other than self-preservation, continues to try to bite Gruxx. (Attack: 22 Damage: 10) The wolf's teeth clamp down on the human's arm, tearing the flesh.
Glynquinal inspired with the good results decides to try again. Quickly taking a pinch of sand out of his pouch he recites an arcane phrase and casts Sleep centered on a spot to affect the remaining wolves.

Herr Doktor, on a roll with his recitation, will continue using his words, insuting the wolf's dead friends (Vicious Mockery) - wolf needs to make a DC13 WIS save, or take 1 psychic damage and have disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.
Ian continues his attack, calling out to Gruxx and Glyn to make sure they are alright. Herr Doktor replies "I'm just peachy, thanks for asking abut me" as he continues bleeding from his many bites, and mocking the wolves.

Glyn did you stand?
Glynquinal will take a brief moment to stand up so he can better defend himself.
If the Bardic Inspiration will make a difference Glynquinal would prefer to use it on the spell to hit roll.
Gruxx will stand and will rage howling out with pain!
Gruxx will swing his glaive recklessly the closest wolf.
Attack: 21 Damage: 6
I can't tell you if it will help. With an original 6, that would means you'll roll as high as a 12. You want to do it?
Glynquinal feeling inspired will gratefully use the Bardic Inspiration.
