Glynquinal grips Talon with both hands and raises the blade above his head. "You should have run while you had the chance," the elf smirks. He pulls the weapon downward. The bugbear attempts to block the attack, but the rogue's aim is too good. The sword flashes, cutting through the bugbear's shoulder and into its upper chest. The final blow is enough to dispatch the creature, and it falls to the ground.
Seeing the nearest-to-him bugbear fall, Gruxx yells, "Tempus!" and turns to jab his glaive around the Herr Doktor Professor and into the remaining goblinoid, nearly spearing his friend in his recklessness. The bard lets out a cry of surprise, turning to look at Gruxx, who he sees grin malevolently. At first the half-elf misinterprets the sneer, but then he hears the bugbear fall behind him, and he turns to see the last foe slain on the ground.
Combat is over.
Glyn turns to look over the edge of the "cliff". "I wonder what they were doing down there," he says aloud. He then gets a good look around the area. A wide rift fills the eastern half of this cavern. A stream pours out of the west wall, then tumbles down into the rift and flows out again to the north. Several ropes are secured to iron stakes along on the western edge of the rift, leading down to the chasm floor, which looks to be about 20 feet down. There are two passageways leading east, but no ropes on that side to make climbing out of the rift easy.
Gruxx walks over and looks over the edge of the cliff with Glyn.
"Well... I guess there's only one way to find out. Hopefully if there are many more bad folks down there they surely would have come up to fight us hearing all that racket."
Gruxx walks up, places his glaive on his back, and grabs one of the ropes and gives a few tugs..
Ian and HDP move up as well. They wait for Gruxx to get down and examine the area, and to make sure he descends safely.
Ian and HDP look all around for any indication as to what was going on, and what they may have been doing here. Ian will move back to the bodies and search them for any clues as well.
Using the rope, Gruxx has no issues climbing down into the rift. (It will be the same for everyone.)
They had not noticed during the battle, but the dark elf is no longer a dark elf. Its form has changed into a seeming naked (though it doesn't have genitalia) humanoid form with gray skin. It has no real ears to speak of, and its nose is more just a small bump in the middle of its face.
The bugbears are wearing hide armor and carrying morningstars.
As for what they were doing here, it's hard to say. Ian would surmise that the two up top were keeping watch, but he couldn't see what the other two were doing.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Now down the rope Gruxx will light a torch with his tinderbox. Gruxx will hold the torch in one hand and a spear in the other. Gruxx looks around. What does he see?
Rock, aside from the armor and weapons, the bugbears were carrying 5 gold, 16 silver, and 52 copper between them. One of them is also carrying a folded-up piece of parchment with a crude drawing of what looks like two big bugbears and a small bugbear. Something is written, but you can't read it.
Ian, HDP, Rock and Glyn climb down the ropes with no issue.
Gruxx is looking around. It looks like the bugbears were searching for something among the rocks.
There is much grunting and the sounds of effort as the party begins moving rocks in an attempt to find whatever it was that the bugbears were looking for. Almost immediately, Glynquinal loses interest and wonders if they shouldn't be continuing on instead. But he keeps his opinions to himself and decides to climb back up on the battlefield side of the rift and undo a couple of the climbing ropes to perhaps use on the other side. He just about has the second rope free when Ian calls everyone's attention to what he has just found: the skeleton of a dwarf. But what is interesting are the gauntlets still adorning the skeleton's hands and wrists. They are silver, and each is adorned with gold including the face of a roaring lion.
Ian takes the gauntlets off of the skeleton, and tries them on to see if they fit.
HDP takes a closer look at the skeleton, going through any clothing and digging around the body to see if there is anything that might identify the skeleton.
Ian, the gloves are pretty roomy on your hands, but as any good adventurer knows, magic items resize to fit their user after a bit of time spent with them (a short rest).
HDP sees nothing else interesting concerning the skeleton. It appears they were either caught in some kind of rock slide or cave-in, or they were "buried" after dying.
Glynquinal finishes pulling the stake out of the ground of the second rope and stows the ropes and stakes in his pack before climbing back down into the rift. "What did you find?" he asks the other elf. Ian shows Glyn the gloves, who nods appreciatively. I think we should keep going, but if you want to take a break to find out what they do, I guess we can do that.
Glynquinal grips Talon tightly in both hands, and seeing the Bugbear miss smirks at my slyly. "You should have run while you had the chance."
Taking care with his balance on his narrow perch he swings again at his foe.
Talon to hit 23
Talon damage two handed 10
Sneak Attack 8
Gruxx feels invigorated from the healing and roars!
"TEMPUS!"
Gruxx will attack the bugbear recklessly.

Gruxx looks around.
"They were searching for something down here. Since they were still down here I'm guessing they had not found it yet. Let's see what we can find."
Gruxx will begin picking up and moving rocks with Ian and HDP to see if he can find anything as well.
Everyone who is looking should roll a perception check.

Ian looks around to see which direction would be the best to go to move forward.
