Gruxx moves to the mouth of the cave, squints at the darkness, which his human eyesight cannot penetrate, and then turns his head to listen. Even getting within 10 feet of the cave, he can hear the echo of animals inside. Because of their encounter just a couple nights ago, it isn't hard for the barbarian to recognize the sounds of canines snarling and breathing loudly.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Glynquinal walking up to the mouth of the cave close to Gruxx, "Well, we do have some brush handy, we could bring in enough to make a pile and see if we can smoke them out." he offered." If anything comes out put a couple of arrows into them, or put a glaive to them."
Glynquinal listens carefully trying to figure how many there might be in the cave.
Glynquinal hoping there are not a large number of wolves will join Ian since 2 are better than 1. He will join him in the cave quietly searching for any wolves, and try to provide help if they find a large number.
"Do wolves eat carrion?" the Herr Doktor Professor whispers to Grux. Less stealthy than the elves, he hangs back as Glynquinal and Ian complete their reconnaissance.
"Since you are apparently skilled in the ways of surviving in the wilderness, friend Grux, would you know if we could use the dead goblins as bait to try and lure the wolves out?"
“I ain’t sure about carrion but a dead goblin should work. As long as it’s meat these dogs shouldn’t care much. Let’s make ‘em a little more tasty and lighter.”
Gruxx wants to use his glaive to hack up the goblin bodies into pieces that can be carried. Preferably with exposed bones.
OOC: Again I say, you guys are awesome. So much imagination and cooperation.
OOC2: You all gain 75 XP.
Ian and Glynquinal enter the cave. A shallow stream flows out of the cave mouth, and a narrow dry path leads into the cave on the right-hand side of the stream. Just inside the cave mouth, a few uneven stone steps lead up to a small, dank chamber on the east side of the passage. The cave narrows to a steep fissure at the far end, and is filled with the stench of animals. Savage snarls and the sounds of rattling chains greet Ian's ears where three wolves are chained up just inside the opening. Each wolf’s chain leads to an iron rod driven into the base of a stalagmite. Ian finds no traps.
Outside, Gruxx begins hacking the (green) goblin into more manageable pieces with his glaive.
The Herr Doktor Professor has noted that Ian seems to possess a preternatural awareness and understanding of the woods and its creatures (in game terms, he has the highest Wisdom in the party).
Once Gruxx has finished butchering the unfortunate goblin, the Herr Doktor Professor hands some of the meat to Ian.
"Perhaps you can calm the wolves down with a bribe of meat," the Herr Doktor Professor suggests to Ian. "If you do, I can assist you by humming a wiegenlied, a lullaby, to calm them down."
(In game terms, if Ian tries an Animal Handling check, HDP will take the Help action to give him advantage on his roll.)
Ian will use some of the goblin carcass to pacify the wolves. He will throw several pieces at the black wolf square, to draw them all away from the center of the room, then investigate the room. Ian thinks why chain up wolves unless they are protecting/guarding something?
Animal Handling 6 with help from HDP (not sure what that means)
Glynquinal will enter the room and take a look around. He's looking to see if there is only one way in and one way out, as well as seeing if there is anything that might be of interest to the party. He will try to make his way to R11 moving quietly past the wolves, and waiting until they are distracted by the impromptu meal.
OOC: When someone is helping someone else, it gives advantage (or removes disadvantage) to the roll. So, Ian, you would have been able to roll that check with advantage (change the dropdown from No to Advantage in the dice roller). Ian, roll a second d20, please. I'll take the higher of your first roll (4) and the new roll.
The Herr Doktor presents Ian with one of the goblin's arms, which the elf then tosses against the north wall of the wolf kennel. The wolves immediately pounce, vying for the right to feast on the fresh meat. Herr Doktor begins hum a soothing tune. As soon as Ian takes a step into the space, two of the wolves' heads snap up, but they regard the rogue for a heartbeat and then return to snarling and snapping at each other over the food. As Herr Doktor continues humming his lullaby, Glynquinal silently enters the room as well, and the two elves begin to look around. They find nothing of interest, though Glynquinal makes note that at the far end of the kennel is a narrow opening that leads to a natural chimney. The height looks to be over 25 feet. At the base of the fissure is rubbish that’s been discarded through the opening above. After a time of searching, the arm has been stripped to the bone and the wolves are no longer distracted. Hey are now pulling on their chains in the direction of Ian. They are still growling and snarling, but not as frantically — almost expectantly. Gruxx and Herr Doktor are in the main tunnel, and Ian and Glynquinal are on the eastern side of the kennel.
Gruxx enters about 10 feet into the cave (you can't go to K11 — it's a wall — so I put you at L11). He cannot see ahead of him; the cave is completely dark. He will need some sort of light source to continue safely.
Glynquinal making note of the natural chimney looks at Ian, "I wonder where this leads? Looks like whatever has been at the other end has been using it to dump their trash."
"Herr Doktor, did you find anything on the goblins before you fed them to the wolves?", Glynquinal asks.
'Looking over the natural chimney, Glynquinal ponders how difficult of a climb it might be to see what he can at the other end.'
Ian will ask The Doc to throw a little more goblin meat to the animls, then make his way to the natural chimney, and attempt to climb up and see what it leads to.

Gruxx will move to J,12 and attempt to listen to see if he hears anything inside the cave.

Ian will attempt to stealthily move into the cave and see if he can gather any more Intel (with his dark vision)

OOC great idea HDP. Let's do that, maybe it will distract the dogs for us!
