OOC: HDP, no, if you're not moving into "striking distance" of the wolves, you don't need to roll animal handling.
While Ian once again attempts to climb up, but is unsuccessful, Glynquinal is able to reach the top of the natural chimney. He pokes his head up and finds himself on the western end of a large cave. Sacks and crates of looted provisions are piled up in the south end. A larger opening leads north down a set of natural stone steps, the roar of falling water echoing from beyond. In the middle of the cavern, the coals of a large fire smolder. Next to the firepit stands a bugbear. On the other side of it is another wolf. It looks at Glynquinal and begins to growl.
OOC2: Remember, Ian, HDP and Gruxx, until Glynquinal tells you, you don't know this information.
Glynquinal realizing he is quite outmatched takes a mental image of the lay out of the room, and very quickly goes back the way he came to warn the party.
Climbing down as quickly as possible, he warns Ian, "There's a Bugbear in here! We're going to have to go another way!"

Once back down Glynquinal will warn the other two of the Bugbear location, as well as the wolf.
Ian takes this moment to remind the group, though there is danger, remember why they are here: to get their friend back quickly, and hopefully still alive.
Glynquinal nods in agreement, "There are some steps leading into the chamber, but I couldn't see very far down them. We can probably get there up the stairs, but now he knows we are here. We need a good plan to start this party. I have some ideas, but Gruxx, Herr Doktor how would you like to approach this?"
Glynquinal takes a moment to describe the chamber he inspected so the rest of the party has a sold understanding of what the lay out of the chamber looks like. Noting he hadn't seen either of the captives, as well as noting the location of both the bugbear and the wolf in relation to the smoldering fire.
Gruxx says, “A bugbear huh? Might be that one the goblin said they didn’t like. Bugbear only knows one thing and that’s killin’. Sneaking up is out that window for me since I need flame to see in here. My only idea is to start killin’ and not stop till everything in this cave is dead.”
Gruxx turns to the chained wolves.
Gruxx says, “Should we put these dogs down? Don’t look to friendly and if we need to retreat and hide I don’t need them nippin at me. We can try to make it as painless as possible by being quick about it.”
Having been up and down, Glynquinal is pretty sure the height of the chute is 30 feet. The wolves are finishing up the remains of the goblin when Glynquinal and Ian skirts them, joining Gruxx and Herr Doktor back in the main tunnel. The gradual incline of the cave would indicate, as well as the presence of the stairs Glynquinal saw, that there is most likely an easier way into the bugbear's chamber than climbing the narrow chimney by following the tunnel north.
Bugbears are not nearly as infamous to your people as other creatures such as drow, giants and dragons, but bugbears feature in many of the nightmare tales told to scare younger siblings — great, hairy beasts that creep through the shadows as quiet as cats. If you walk alone in the woods, a bugbear will reach out of the bushes and strangle you. If you stray too far from the house at night, bugbears will scoop you up to devour you in their den. If a bugbear cuts off your head, your soul stays trapped inside, and the bugbears use your head to magically command all whom you once knew. Lurid tales such as these have flowered from the seeds of truth. As an adult, you know that Bugbears do rely on stealth and strength to attack, and that they prefer to operate at night. They do take the heads of enemy leaders, but they are no more likely to eat people indiscriminately than humans are. Bugbears aren't likely to attack lone travelers or wandering children unless they clearly have something to gain by doing so.
Ian says " I don't know if we need to kill the wolves. They are chained up, and if we need to retreat, we may as well retreat outside. Let's make our way in a little further, and see what we find. Glenquenal and I can move stealthily up a bit, then comeback and report what we find . hey, Doc, since you see a bit better, you want to stay with Gruxx while we look ahead?"
And Ian will look at Glenquenal and jurk his head towards the unknown area in the northern tunnel "let's see what we can find".
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Glynquinal nods to Ian laughing lightly under his breath, "No problem. Let's see what sort of things are ahead of us. Stay to the side of the stairs on the right. if it looks all right to come up, I'll fire an arrow down the opposite side." Moving next to Ian quietly Glynquinal forges ahead to take a look.
The two rogues move northward up the main tunnel. The main passage from the cave mouth climbs steeply upward, the stream plunging and splashing down its west side. In the shadows, a side passage leads west across the other side of the stream. In the shadows of the ceiling to the north, you can just make out the dim shape of a rickety bridge of wood and rope crossing over the passage ahead of you. Another passage intersects this one, 20 feet above the floor.
Glynquinal looking over the bridge that looks suspect to him notices the second passage above the first.
Glynquinal says to his partner, "Ian, that looks like a great place to get filled full of arrows if anyone wanted to shoot a bow at you. We better bring the other two up here and work out our next move."
HDP will take up a position at M11. DDP, will I need to make an Animal Handling from there?
Ian will attempt to climb yet again, a little embarrassed at his failure.

Glynquinal looks at Gruxx, "You ever dealt with a Bugbear up close Gruxx? I have no experience with them."
Gruxx says to Glynquinal, “I never faced one down myself but every boy growing up near Spine of the World hears of past hero’s battles!”
OOC: To prevent Metagaming. DDP can Gruxx recall anything specific about bugbears? I believe this may be History: 13
