As Cora calls for a light there is the scratching sound of flint and steel as Wasif lights a small lantern witch fills the room with dim light.  He wades through the deep sand to the fallen block, examining it frantically. "Oh no... oh by the gods no..."

Shen: You reach up and pull the lever that Erok pointed out to you. As you do so there is a scraping noise as the entire mosaic behind the altar slides up into the ceiling, revealing a staircase that goes further down.

As they pull the lever, Lilyth casts light on the top end of her quarter staff that’s holstered on her back.

“There you go.” She smiles at Cora, readying up herself for an attack as well.

I start walking further into the darkness...

Cora gives Lilly an affectionate wink of thanks, and carefully proceeds with the group.

Erok will bind his wound the best he can and follow the rest of the group carefully down the stairs. 

"Erok, wait--" Lilly sprints forward to catch up to the Dragonborn to stop him and pull him aside. "Sorry, I got distracted, I didn't really see you get hit (because I rolled a nat 1 initiative I got busy looking at so many pretty things on the walls!!), my apologies! Here, might sting just a bit but I hope it helps!" She presses her hand on his wound and casts cure wounds and heals him for 11.

When she's done, she smiles at him. "I hope you can forgive me, haha."

Erok takes a deep breath and then smiles down at Lily. “No harm done, little one, but some harm healed, yes? My sincere thanks, that feels much better.  Shall we proceed?”  Erok gestures towards the stairs. 

"Yes, we shall!" She beams up at him then makes her way down the stairs.

Erok follows Lilly down the stairs, keeping his eye out for any other oddities he might come across.  

Down a short, wide stairway is a chamber.

As you enter, sparks flare, and a great iron brazier sitting on a round platform in the room’s center ignites into flame, along with four torches in the corners. In the light, you see that the chamber is sixty feet square, with a vaulted ceiling.

Each wall has a 10-foot-wide doorway at its center; the other three are blocked by stone slabs like the one you just opened. The flickering firelight also illuminates intricately carved scenes adorning the closed stone slabs and more glimmering sigils just below the ceiling.

The central platform is five feet high and twenty feet in diameter; the great iron brazier atop it is half as broad. The base of the platform is decorated with a golden effigy of Menet-Ka extending its arm toward you, palm up. Carved in relief onto the sides of the platform are countless other figures, all turned in worship toward the golden figure of Menet-Ka along with a series of hieroglyphics.

"eni meni mini mo, catch a eagle by the toe" he mutters to himself then points at the open doorway to the right of the entrance.

Erok will investigate the doorway to left. Perhaps the carvings hold more concealed levers like the previous room.

Cora beamed with pride when Lilly healed Erok, and the dragonborn, as always, was quite the gentleman. She flashed Lilly one more proud smile and followed everyone else down. They decided to take the doorway left. While Erok was looking at the door, she decided to do the same.

Investigation: 7

Yup. It's an Egyptian doorway with glyphs *facepalms*

Maegan, not realising  where everyone else has gone, follows the path down but while doing this she has a panic attack and starts mumbling to herself “Oh, spectres does that mean that mom, dad, and brother could come back? If they come back will they start to attack me? I don’t want to have to kill them again. It was bad enough seeing it the first time.”

When Maegan arrives in the room she would like to cast detect magic (ooc I totally forgot that one of the Eldritch Invocations I gave her allowed to cast detect magic at will) to check to se if there's anything magical or around the room

 You do realise you can't dual wield rapiers? They don't have the "light" property you need to dual wield. 

When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative.

Rapiers aren't light.

Erok & Cora: Your investigation doesn't turn up much, but you do get a good look at the carvings on the blocked doorways.

Walking around the room clockwise, you see the following carvings.

North Wall Portrays Menet-Ka vanquishing a horde of foes, incinerating them with fire called down from the heavens. There is an inscription of hieroglyphics below the picture.

East Wall Portrays Menet-Ka leading a vast procession into the temple-tomb, where Anu-Akma waits on bended knee. In each hand Menet-Ka holds half of a broken, golden tablet. There is another inscription of hieroglyphics below the picture.

South Wall Chronicles the entire nation working as one under Menet-Ka’s direction to construct a magnificent temple by a lake. The king holds a golden

Anyone who wants to try and translate the hieroglyphics can make a history check.

Maegan: You call on the magic of your patron and feel their soothing presence on your frayed nerves. As you move to follow down the stairs, you see that something on the black stone altar is glowing with evocation magic under the cobwebs. On closer inspection, you see a beautiful gold necklace set with rubies. It looks brand new, even though it must have been down here for centuries. Also on the altar is a silver cup set with bloodstones that is tarnished with age and emits no magical glow. (Up to you if you take the items or not).

Upon entering the room where the others are, you see no magic aside from the ever present glyphs along the top of the room. If there are any secrets to this room, they are mundane in nature.

DM Note: Perzival you are correct. Shen's two weapon fighting style does let him add his dex mod to his off hand attacks, but for 5e you do have to have the Dual Wielder feat to have a non-light weapon in your off hand. Blibbers, I'd suggest changing that second rapier to a short sword? The only difference is you'll be rolling a D6 for damage instead of a D8.

Shen, being well-read on history and nature aswell as the arcane, will see if he knows the hieroglyphics 12 

Shen: Your studies have extended beyond just how to use a blade. You are confidant you can come up with a translation, but it will take you fifteen minutes or so.

The rest of you let me know if there's anything you want to do while he works on the translation.

Erok will position himself between two of the archways/doors, trying to get at least two of them within range to use his Wand of Secrets to see if there are any traps or hidden doorways.  Surely one of these doors opens similar to the one from which they entered.
