Angie looks at the vine covered stone pensively. Finally she says, "Maybe we should burn it. These two paths and the clearings they led to seem connected through their mirroring of each other. Maybe we are supposed to burn the vines on this rock. If so then maybe other people have burned them previously." Angie investigates the rock to see if there are any marks indicating that it has previously been burned or is otherwise marked.
There aren’t any burn marks on the stone, there is however an inscription written in some sort of runic language. The markings are unfamiliar to you Angie, but after calling the rest of the group over Gobber and Healer recognize some of the runes as dwarvish. It takes them a few minutes to decipher the engraving, because the runes are not one for one with those of dwarvish on your home world, but you believe the runes read...
Whistle a song and your day will be long
Tell me you are afraid and I will take you to where Barkbull has laid
Whistle a song and your day will be long
Act like a knave, and I will take you to Runvid’s grave
As you finish whistling your tune you realize that you are not the only one making noise in the forest. A deep sound seems to answer you from underneath a large fir at the far side of the clearing. It resonates as a very deep melodic growl that seems to sputter out and pick up again a few seconds later. The growl is followed by a long nasally whistle and a wheezing choke. You look in the direction of the strange noise and see what looks like a large mound of woody debris underneath the tree. As you get closer the faint light filtering down through the compact mesh of branches illuminates a pair of enormous feet that poke out from under the giant fir’s lowest branches. The feet are oddly enough attached to a pair of legs and eventually a rotund furry body. This is what, or who rather you see sleeping beneath the tree...
You remember hearing mention of the word "jotun” in a story the night you stayed in the jarl’s mead hall. You heard they were many types of jotun across trudvang and that they come in all shapes, sizes, and temperaments. This knowledge coupled with your previous encounters with giants on your home world lead you to believe that the great mass before you is similar to a hill giant despite its obvious physical differences.
As you ponder the jotun before you it suddenly snorts loudly and lets out a huge sputtering coff. Through its sleep it seems to mutter, “Mmm.. ommm... hrmmmmph..” before shifting its bulk slightly against the tree.
Just as Healer is responding to Thokein the giant lets out an enormous yawn. Standing there mouth agape you watch as he raises one large gnarly hand to his mouth to stifle it. His large sleepy eyes begin to blink open as he scratches his bulging gut. He tries to scratch his back, but can’t reach the itch, so rubs his back against the tree causing spiky cones to fall in the process. As you all shuffle to avoid being hit your movement catches the giants eye and he seems to notice you for the first time. He scratches a pit, plucks something from his arm fur and eats it, before addressing you in a resonating voice..
Angie curtsies low to the giant in front of her, "Oh mighty man of giant proportions. We are but weary wanderers who have been tasked with healing this beautiful forest. We stand in awe of your greatness. We did not mean to disturb you and were just about to leave you in peace. We apologize for any disturbance we might have caused." Noticing the giant scratching at his back. "While we are here is there anything that we might be able to help you with? I could perhaps scratch your back for you or whistle you a tune."

Leans over to Healer and whispers, "What is that?"
Can healer identify it?

"Should we let it sleep?"
"I would say yes. I know the Giants of our world can be less than agreeable."

The giant merely stares at you quizzically. It snaps a branch off the tree it is sitting under and uses it to scratch its back.
”Grmmm...” he seems to grunt in satisfaction.
“Wo tid.. Barkbull sove lang? Barkbull drom om musikk.. du musikk?”
