The clearing is surrounded by trees and underbrush the easier place to bury the hunter would be in the clearing itself. There is an abundant supply of pine cones scattered around the clearing, but not many other plants that bear seeds.
When you move the hunter’s body you notice that some of his ribs are cracked and his clothing seems to have large tears in it. The fabric around the tears appears to have been soaked in blood, but it’s hard tell what exactly the substance is since the hunter has been long dead.
Upon examination the shaft of the bow appears to be in good condition though it may require a new string which can be adapted from your long bow with ease. The arrows were well made and protected by the leather case they were in. You count twenty out after burying the dead hunter.
It would probably take a half hour to bury the body properly. By this time it is nearly dark despite it only being afternoon likely due to the thick forest canopy and the chilling fog.
Angie interjects, "I vote we make camp here. This clearing seems like an ideal place for us to make camp. I would also like to place a trap before it gets too much darker."
Okay, this isn’t the first time you set the trap, so I’ll assume you set it properly on the edge of the clearing and a survival check in the morning (game time) will determine if you caught anything.
Does anyone make a fire, or have anything they else want to work on? ...It’s still a few hours before dusk proper. Also need a watch order.
Thokein builds a fire while keeping an eye out for retribution from the forest. But, as the dry wood smolders and crackles there is no noticeable backlash from the forest. The warmth does provide you all with a little comfort and a break from the numbness of the icy fog.
Thokein’s watch is uneventful, though on Angie’s watch whether from weariness or the oppressive darkness of the forest Angie falls into a deep sleep. She dreams of a hunter who appears to be lost. He is running through a forest of pines similar to the one you are currently in. You can feel he is scared, but cannot discern why. The hunter stops in a clearing, he looks around frantically searching for a way out. He realizes he is trapped again. He pulls a piece of parchment from his pocket, then a white feathered arrow from the quiver at his back. He secures the parchment to the arrow and quickly fires it into the air. The arrow leaves the clearing and sticks in a nearby tree. Then.. blackness.. screaming.. the sounds of bones breaking.. the nothing...
Angie wakes to Gobbler shaking her back to consciousness...
Angie wakes with a start, "Whoa. I just had such an unusual dream. I think it may have been a vision. I was a man running in these woods and got trapped in a clearing that I think was this clearing. I wrote a note and attached it to an arrow that looked like the ones we found on that corpse and shot it into the woods." Angie looks around at the dark woods. "I think when the day breaks we should look around the woods surrounding this clearing and see if we can find the note." Angie gives off a huge yawn. "In the meantime, I am exhausted. I don't feel like I slept a wink. Goodnight."
The next two watches pass uneventfully. You all wake to find the fog has lessened significantly. It now seems like a normal morning mist. Thin rays of light penetrate the canopy overhead. Healer, the light hits something a short distance away in the brush causing it to gleam and sparkle. When the others wake you walk towards it and find that it is an arrow stuck in a tree. The light is reflecting off the white feathers. You pull the arrow from the tree and find a worn parchment. You unroll it and are able to just read what it says before it disintegrates from age within your hands...
”My name is Gilte Brushwalker, son of Rutbjorn Brushwalker. Through witchcraft greater than my courage, I have been caught in a trap without escape. I send this arrow in the hope of someone finding it on the outskirts of the forest. This is my tiding: The forest is bewitched and enchanted. Anyone who steps beneath its branches will never find the way out. Do what you can to burn the forest, and urge all honorable men and women away from this demonic landscape. Spread the tiding of the forest in all directions.
Make a survival check to find those items.

Healer,
"Time to make camp I believe. It's not wise to wander strange woods in the dark."

"So early? It can't be later than early afternoon."
Healer,
"It is not the time that troubles me my friend. It is the lengthening shadows, and cloying mist."

Is the party good with making camp, or do you want to continue on?

"A fire would keep us warm and might keep the mist away, but do we dare to burn wood in a hostile forest?"
(I can take 1st watch unless Angie wants it.)
Please make a perception check.

Gobber looks at the arrow attached to the note.
"Hey....Isn't this arrow from the body that we found yesterday?"
Healer,
"It would seem our situation has become more complicated."
Healer reads the letter to the group.
