Ok so as you guys travel downstairsthe stairs creek and moan. Once you reach the basement you can see there are 5 doors this room seems to be used as storage the walls are wood. Cobwebs line the area.
I show up about 15' behind you and say, "stop and think; your friend just set the whole house on fire. The house is not currently on fire. Why is this?"

"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both" -- allegedly Benjamin Franklin
In Common: "Hostile I am not. My name is not pronounceable in your language. As for my intentions, suffice it to say that I would rather not see you walk into a trap unknowingly. I trust that answers your questions?"
A shadowy creature watches from the shadows as the birdman and the automaton squabble. Thinking quietly to himself, "These are a loud lot, aren't they."Taking another look around, he steps out of the shadows and says "If you two are done with your squabbling, I am sure the rest of us would prefer to be as stealthy as possible."
Stepping out from the shadows you see, a tall humanoid creature, and as soon as more light hits it you can see that it has black raven like feathers covering most of its body. You think it might be some type of kenku, but it seems to be speaking normally. Looking closer you see, pale violet eyes and a slight reddish tint at the very edges of its feathers. You do seem to recall seeing it at the bar, sitting off by its lonesome in the darkest most shadow covers portion of the bar.
OOC: Sorry guys, was unaware that the game had started.
The creature practically cloaked in shadows as they play off his feathers, looks at the birdman and simply nods his understanding. "Still, there are quieter ways to solve a dispute, and for all our sake, I hope you find it quickly."
This, bird like creature while certainly looking the part of an avian, didn't quite have the mannerisms down.
"What is this dispute you speak of? I merely suggested that perhaps charging in blindly would not be that wisest course of action, and he merely verified that I was not a threat."

Khelgar has lowered his shield and weapon. Just looking how people came out of the shadows and start to argue:
"Although it's very possible that I have lost my mind, probably due to some kind of poison from that orc weapon, I will risk my remaining sanity to ask: Are you part of the other adventurers party that came up to this haunted house to investigate? "
Looking towards the automaton, the anthropomorphic raven creature cleared his throat before saying, "I was running a tad behind unfortunately, I was not here when the mass of the group arrived" Looking around quickly he continued, "However, I believe I am up to date and ready to press forwards when everyone else is"
OOC: Still waiting for verification that we are still level 1. But beyond that...
[ooc you said I suggest we explore the upper levels of the house, what better way than through the first floor?]
"I suppose, something just doesn't feel right about that place."
Ghaldrak loops back around to the basement, trying to stay toward the front of the group.
So where are you guys going? I'm sort of turned around I've been waiting for you guys to decide on where to go.
[Go downstairs. Khelgar will show them were he saw the spectral form of Magnus dissapearing]

Khelgar literally jumps on his feet and turns, warhammer and shiled raised towards the newcomer.
"Please: Identify yourself and state your intentions. I must warn you. Should be hostile, I will be forced to respond with lethal force."

OOC: I never raised my voice.

He is the rogue, with an emphasis on stealth. It's not so much that you didn't raise your voice, but that it wasn't in hushed tones.
OOC: Ah. That explains it.
IC: "Very well. You lot, gather round; we need a plan."
