On your walk to the Lionshield Coaster, you are met by Sildar who is walking out of the Stonehill Inn "Oh hello my friends, I was able to meet with the town master at the inn and he was able to provide me with an advance under the banner of the Lord's Alliance. So as a small token of my gratitude for rescuing me, here you are" and he hands each of you 50 gold pieces. "I am off to the merchant to look for some gear since all of mine was stolen." See that you are also walking toward the shop he says "Oh looks like you are heading that way as well. It is a small shop by Linene does happen to stock some useful items for adventurers such as yourselves."
Walking alongside Sildar toward the Lionshield Coaster, Jackson attempts to strike up a rapport with the knight. "Thank you, Sildar. I am glad you are with us on our quest to find Gundren. We actually just recently lost a member of our party -- the Dragonborn, Koren. While we're certainly going to miss having another spellcaster, I'm sure your melee skills are quite formidable. I'm also sure our party is going to want to rest a bit, after which, we can head out towards the castle where they're holding our Dwarven friend. Knowing him, I'm sure he's giving them quite some trouble. Do you happen to know of this castle, or do we need to ask around a bit more?
“I truly hope I can aid the cause. I admit that having someone with arcane abilities is very useful, but I have won many battles only with the swing of my sword. It is getting late in the day so I will likely rest after visiting the shop and we can get started fresh in the morning. I know the goblins were speaking of a castle but I had not heard of it prior. We may need to investigate further if we are to find its location”
The rutted track emerges from a wooded hillside, and you catch your first glimpse of Phandalin. The town consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings, some built on old fieldstone foundations. More old ruins — crumbling stone walls covered in ivy and briars — surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Most of the newer buildings are set on the sides of the cart track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts as it climbs toward a ruined manor house on a hillside at the east side of town.
As they are walking along, Haruaki looks around at the town structures.
"Sildar," he asks, "What is the story of Phandalin? I see ruins at the outskirts, and the manor on the hill appears abandoned."

"Phandalin has been abandoned for many years following a great war that destroyed the town. The residents had discovered magic in the mountains, in addition to treasure that could be mined, but others discovered this information as well and a war band of orcs was hired to sack the town. It has been rebuilt over the last few years due to a resurgence in mining activity in the sword mountains. The manor was one of the old structures that survived the war and was owned by one of the noble families of the area. Gundren and his brothers had discovered an old mine and he surmised that it could be the mine in old legend that held the magic. Gundren was very tight-lipped on his information, but his brothers enjoyed their ale in the inn and would let stories slip.'
OOC: When we get to see Linene at the Lionshield Coaster, Harukai is going to be interested in replenishing his rations as well as looking at their selection of spears, staves, and shortswords. If there are any of unusually fine quality, he may be persuaded to part with some of his newly received gold...for example, a Moon-Touched Sword, Shortsword is a common magic item which would save him from having to carry a torch around in caves and other dark areas...
As the group enters the shop, Linene recognizes Sildar and greets him warmly, but immediately gives the rest of the group a glaring look. "Sildar, do you know these people?"
Sildar says "Yes, Gundren and I were captured by a group of goblins, but these brave individuals rescued me. They had a contract with Gundren to deliver some items and met trouble along the way."
Linene says "so you are able to handle yourselves eh? Maybe you can take care of those idiot redbrand goons. They believe they can take whatever they want from us shopkeepers and simple farming and mining folk, but I bet they would be in for a rude awakening if actual fighters challenged them, probably piss their pants I bet."
“I have dealt with my share of bullies who would threaten my more cloistered brethren,” comments Harukai. “What do you know about them other than their larcenous tendencies?”
As he speaks, Harukai casts a glance over the wares for sale (as commented before).

"Goons, you say? Tyr's beard! Another group committing injustices, another group in line for a few swings from my hammer," Jackson says as he admires some of the wares. "But we must remain focused on the task at hand. I am Jackson Greystone, cleric of Tyr, and I swear I will return to defeat these goons after we save Gundren from these Cragmaw characters!"
Jackson puts Klarg's armor onto the counter. "But first -- what can we get for this?" Then he puts the jade frog next to the armor. "And this?"
Linene picks up the armor and laughs "wow this is, really something. Unique if I say so my self. I don't know anyone in their right mind who would buy it as is so I will likely take the stones off and sell individually. 300 gold for all six stones and 5 gold for the leather armor." She picks up the jade statue "now this, this is nice. I can give you 40 gold for this piece. 345 gold for everything together."
"SOLD! We will take the 340 gold, but please hold a moment while our friend here tries on the armor," Jackson says to Linene.
He turns to Sildar. "Sildar, should you wish to keep this armor, then by all means; however, I do feel entitled to give you some of the gold we receive from this sale, which you can use to buy yourself a much more worthy suit."
”Thank you for the offer but your group earned that money. I received an advance from the townmaster so I can afford some new armor and a sword. I also took care of our lodgings for the next week so we will not have to worry about that. I will miss my old gear, but this should be functional and allow me to assist in the hunt Gundren and his captors.”
While looking through the items in the store you find rations for sale (5 sp for 1 day worth), a few basic weapons, and hanging on the wall you do see a short sword that looks different that normal. You unsheathe it and the room, currently being lit by one lantern, is suddenly filled with a light that looks as a full moon lit night. Linene laughes “oh you found my special item, that sword there will set you back 100 gold. It came from Waterdeep. Some mage there enchanted it and then decided a short sword wasn’t a very mage like weapon.”
Linene says “does any of the rest of you have anything specific you are looking for? We have a few healing potions and such for adventurers and i may be able to get some more items in if you are going to be in town for a bit”
Harukai is drawn to the sword, counting his newly acquired funds to see if he can afford it. "If we end up moving through more dark places, this could be very useful," he comments to Jackson. "How much is my share from the sale of the armor and the jade figure?"
OOC: Do we divide by 4, 5, or 6 based on Koren or Sildar getting shares? And thanks very much for having a cool starter magic item available, Kryptikk81!
Turning to Linene, Harukai asks, "We think the goblins may have taken Gundren to a nearby castle. Have you heard of any nearby castles or ruins of what may have been a castle?" He starts gathering his funds to count out how much he needs to add to his share to be able to afford the sword.
OOC: Sildar won’t take any of the current treasure sale and Koren is already gone back to Neverwinter so it will be a four way split.
Linene says “no, I don’t know of a castle around here. The old manor on the hill may be what they are referring to, but I wouldn’t call it a castle. Be careful if you go there because those redbrands have been seen around it.”
OOC: one item to note also is that, since Sildar is with the group, he knows his way around town and extends his knowledge of where each shop and important place on to you.
Harurkai waits until he gets his share of the sale (86.25gp), then carefully counts out 100 gp for the Moon-Touched Sword, Shortsword and 4 gp plus 5 sp for 9 days worth of trail rations (to replenish what he fed to the wolves and ate along the way). Those of you who are paying attention may see this:
Harukai pulls out a separate pouch made out of bleached leather and bound by a red cord. He counts out 10 gp, 45 sp, and 47 cp and puts it in the pouch, then secretes it away inside the vest of his plain travelling clothes once more.
"Thank you, Linene. I will take the sword and the rations."
“Goodbye Koren. It was my misfortune not to get to know you better.”
