Jarl casts Dust Devil and directs it upwards, drawing the gas towards the ceiling. "I can push it into a corner or against a wall, if you wanted to block the cloud in that way," he suggests. "But I can only hold this up for about a minute --" and let's not go opening any other chests in the meantime, please, I don't want to have another surprise sprung that might break my concentration."
The gas is temporarily contained by the dust devil. Flynt and Celric, take those HP back, since you didn't actually start a turn in the gas. Balian, Flynt and Celric, what are you doing with your turns? (Squiggles, if there's something else you want to have done before Jarl cast dust devil, since reading papers wasn't possible in the cloud, feel free)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Balian
The thief sniffs the air as the poison cloud is whisked away to the ceiling. "Well it's not as bad as the time we entered Shale into that bean-eating contest."
He looks into the chest to see what it contains, and then looks around the room for any signs of a way out.

"Hey Jarl, can you aim your gas-catcher into the chest, maybe we could shut it back in?"OOC - once we know what's in the chest...
Squiggles says "I can seal that off with Wall of Stone I think". When it is around to Squiggles again, he will encase Jarl's Dustdevil in a Wall of Stone
"I can certainly try to get the dust devil into that chest, but it's a bit bigger, so I don't know that it'll catch all of it -- and it might damage the chest."
I think the dust devil itself would fit, but the gas is swirling in a 10 ft radius around it. If you wanted to try it, it would be a strength check against Jarl's spellcasting DC to close the lid with the whirlwind inside, and then you'd need some way of keeping it closed. But then you'd have cut the cloud to a 10' radius instead of 20', giving you some clean air around the edges of the room.
Scooping up the potions, Balian stows them in his backpack for safekeeping. "Better let Squiggles wall it up, then we can open the next box of tricks!"
To be clear, if you did manage stuff part of it back in the chest, there'd be safe-to-breathe air at the edges of the room, allowing you to go about your business as long as Flynt and Celric stayed clear. Squiggles and Jarl (since they're both familiar with Cloudkill) would know that magical poison gas wouldn't spread to a larger area from there, though it would roll away from the point of origin, continuing to occupy the same total volume, until stopped by a wall.
Wall of Stone should work too; you'd just have a 15'x15' piece of the room that is permanently sealed off from the rest (with the dust devil in the corner, a 10' radius sphere occupies a cube 3 five-foot squares to a side, which is the entire height of the room, goes out just short of the middle where the desk and shelf are, and stops just short of the side chest).
OOC - So what we doing guys? Would need someone with a bit of strength (not me!) to hold the box down. Can the whirlwind be 'cancelled' or does it have to run its course?
It’s concentration, so Jarl can stop it once the lid is closed, and the remainder of the cloud will immediately start to spread again. It should be people who are immune to poison who help, since Cloudkill will deal damage to you even if you’re not breathing.

Celric gets low to the ground and covers his mouth. “I don’t think I have anything that can help with this. We are going to need to get out of here.”

Hah! Squiggles secretly has it in for Celric and Flynt...

Flynt is going to drop to the floor and rip a piece of his sleeve and make a makeshift bandana and wrap it around his face.
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.

OoC: We decided Counterspell was a no go didn't we, since it has to be cast by a creature? Also has to happen before the spell is vast I think

I thought the joke was that you could counterspell dust devil...
Balian, you find six bottles in the chest. They appear to be healing potions: two regular, two greater, and two superior. You don't see a way out.

OOC: I had the same idea of stuffing it back in the chest... should have known better. You can never get anything back in its original packaging.
"This place has to have an exit!" Shale begins to run his hands along the walls trying to determine if there is any sort of illusion at work.
The walls seem solid enough.

(My strength is not great, but I could help. Could we have two people doing it?)
