The Shepherd takes the gold coin, giving a nod. He does glance to the dwarf for a moment, motioning to the cart. "Take a bag, and some clothes. Should be something in there that will fit you. Itchy, but fitting."
As Yaalin looks over the body, she comes to the same conclusion as Sim. The injures coming from blades and arrows, definitely of Goblin design. You also notice what seem to be impact marks. Bruising that happened before death. Something struck her, repeatedly, in the chest by the heart, and the kidneys. Fist sized, for something small like a goblin. The dirt and singe on her finger-tips letting you know that she did not fade away quietly.
The Raven caws, causing Shepherd to look at it, then back to Yaalin. "When the stone and earth is moved over her, you may do your rite."
Lafetha walks up to Shepherd, I'm sorry about your friend. You two must have been close. I know how it feels to lose someone that is close to you. Feelings of nostalgia and sorrow rush over her. She shakes her head and snaps back to reality. "It's funny, as soon as I walked into the cave I had a vision. A very interesting looking serpent mentioned your friend Yeth. It knew I wasn't her, but said that she saw me in one of her visions. Do you know anything about the visions that she might of had?"
Arcana9 Lafetha looks over Yeth's body to see if she can notice anything that might have caused her death ((outside of the arrow and blade marks))
Shepherd looks over at Lafetha, giving a small nod. “Yeth was,” he pauses for a little too long. “Yeth was Yeth. Like the mountain. Nurturing. And cold.” He does take pause when she mentioned visions and the serpent.
“So, you spoke to the Guardian. It speaks in riddles.” There are a few moments of cawing from the Raven again. “And loud.” He once again speaks at the Raven in Druidic, before returning to the question at hand. “Yeth and I did not speak of her visions, or what she saw. For I not Druid. Just Shepherd to this flock.”
In Druidic
Ask this one to tend the Mountain. I’ve told you and Yeth too many times.
Lafetha, you look over the older woman’s body. While she does have quite a few cuts and burns, you’re not entirely sure what caused this.
Shepherd begins to cast once he finishes the preparations. The stone in the field moving around as he chants. (mold earth) He sighs, before looking over at Sim. “Revenge not the way of the mountain. When it’s time for them to pay, it will be time for them to pay.”
Yaalin does her burial ceremony, as Shepherd eventually brings the stone back over her. Entombing Yeth before letting out a sigh. His eyes showed the sadness, yet he was doing his best to keep it buried within. “I know that Goblins did this. But. For those burns, I do not know. Many dangers on the mountains, but it was not lion, wolf, or beast. Other creatures, I tend not to investigate. Shepherd doesn’t bring his flock into danger.”
Shepherd pats his giant goat on the head a few times, looking over at Eshe who’s now dressed in some wool and other basic clothing, along with a simple bag big enough to carry his basics. The bird begins to caw, but he just puts up a finger. The raven quieting down for a moment. “Remember, ogres enjoy shiny objects. But, monsters. So be careful.” He goes and takes out some supplies from his own cart. He seemingly taking a rest of his own after traveling through the night.
What other questions do you ask, if anything. When ready, let me know your marching order again (Front / Middle / Rear). Anyone in the middle can roll survival to forage, Sim can roll to guide the group (& forage). DC 15 to find supplies on the way. If you go fast, you’ll make it to the border of the village by nightfall. Normal pace will put you a little ways away from it.
“Shephard, I understand your feelings, I lean towards mountain life myself. I will not go out of my way to wipe out the goblins but I am honor bound to remove the problem that will continue to hurt people. They have a right to exist.
I find myself torn on another subject. The lady Orta from town holds the key to the temple but will not give it to us unless we bring the head of the chief of the tribe you spoke of. She blames them for the death of her sister. I do not want to hurt people you hold dear and described as good and kind but we do need the key to continue our quest. How would you suggest I approach this matter?” insight22
Shepherd looks up, as he snacks on some foul smelling bird meat.
”Lady Orta is a witch. My Father’s Father may have domesticated her, but I do not trust her.” He spits on the ground after speaking her name. In the same manor that she spoke about him. “Always a bad deal. A unspoken price.”
Sim, you definitely feel that he’s telling the truth. He has a soft spot for the tribe you’re on the way to. And a deep mistrust of Lady Orta.
"I appreciate you tell me your opinion. She seemed to feel the same way about you but I do trust you. What do you know about her sister and the temple? Orta may be a witch but her sister being in a temple may have made her different. Do you know if the Hn'ti tribe have had or still have possession of the temple?"
“Never met her sister, but I do not trust the blood line of witches.” He wipes a few bits of food off of his face. “And I’ve never been to the temple,” he says as he looks out to where you believe the temple to be. “Too high up. Not good for my flock.”
He takes a few more bites in silence, before the bird caws. “Yes, but Yeth is dead.” Another caw. “There are stories of a man who came and brought joy. And joy turned to sorrow. And sorrow turned to suffering. My grandfather, Yeth, and the first Hn’ti stopped the suffering. Or so the stories go.” He keeps a long pause, thinking it over. “But, I do not know the stories well. And all stories are more fiction than fact.”
He begins to lick his fingers, before wiping them on his robes. “The Hn’ti are wary of outsiders. And very, very few speak our tongue.” He stands, looking over at his goats. “I don’t know if they’ve ever been up there. Maybe. But I spent my time being with them, not asking about who they were.”

Shepherd looks at Lafetha, tilting his head to the side as he walks around his flock, while some others begin to gather their belongings and breaking down camp. “Guardian of the cave, I suppose.” He pats one of the goats on the head, which just pisses the goat off. It trying to headbutt him, to little success. “He asked something you could not know. Sounds like a riddle. The guardian is, weird. Watches over the sacred pool,” he casts his eyes on the stones where Yeth is buried. “This was not Yeth’s first trip to this site. Or so I have been told.” He keeps pushing the goat that’s clearly upset at him for being around.
“Are you not a part of a Order? I think Druids call it a circle. There are a few that tend to the mountains. Meeting from time to time. Yeth taught me. Wanted me to replace her. I think. But, not my life. Not what I want.” His voice trails off, losing himself in thought. The goat finally getting a solid hit on him, knocking him down on to his ass. “See? Need to keep flocks around. Moving,” he grabs the goat. Petting it’s face again as he stands. This time, the goat wandering off. “So, I tend to what I can.”
His walking continues to pass by Diadochi. Seeing him feeding the larger beast. “This one not for sale. A friend of mine,” he says as he pats his back. “But he likes you. Likes people who are kind inside.”
When talking with Sim, he hears the question on how to meet the tribe. He pauses for a second, looking over at the burial site. “Carefully.” He’s hard to read by that. Sim’s best guess is that he was introduced to them by Yeth. Perhaps a good introduction could go a far way. “They cautious. Skeptic of outsiders near their homes. Especially ones of people not usually seen.” he makes a gesture to the menagerie of species that make up your group.

Yaalin having finished her ceremony, stands silently by the gravesite while the others talk. Thoughts of what one must be like having crossed the veil and returned as many times as Yeth must have would be like. Echoes of the world she has seen only in the sky and through seeing stones shattered against the night. Her internal desire to see what was there and explore the ancient past unspoken.
as the group prepares to part ways with Shepard she will simply say, "good bye for now, I am sorry I could not do more for your friend. Maybe if you are in Rest when we complete our tasks I could buy you a drink? or at least some food? Until then safe travels and may the ancestors watch over you and yours"
Yaalin will take a place at the rear of the group mentally cataloguing the events of the past days in an effort to remember them for transcription later. She will not think to forage for food or supplies along the way,
The Shepherd looks over at Yaalin, studying the tortle for a moment. He looks perplexed at the idea of learning about himself. The raven in the cave caws a few times, breaking his stare as he looks over his shoulder. “Yes.” He then looks back to Yaalin. “Yes. That will be fine. And you did plenty. All life returns to the stone. Sadness passes.”
His eyes flick down for just a small moment. His hand moving on to Yaalin’s shoulder, giving it a pat. “Be safe.” Shepherd gives the group a nod as he reconnects his large goat friend to his own cart’s yoke. “You. Dwarf,” you hear him say as you begin to venture off further along the mountain. Giving Eshe something to do rather than just standing around.
As you venture along the mountain paths, today is warmer than the other day. Small water flows beginning to form as the ice is melting more and more. Over the hours, you’re able to see what areas will probably become parts of rivers and waterfalls. Spring on the mountain, at least at these elevations, are probably quite wet and green. Right now, though, nothing has truly begun to grow or take root. Most the tracks you see from wandering predators; having woken up and now trying to hunt and find food. In the distance from time to time, you see a random goat on a cliff-side. Whitehawk packs overhead, circling as they decide what their own next target. The bird is rather aggressive pack hunter, but none have yet to investigate your traveling group beyond their screeches heading in other directions.
You venture into a more level part of the mountain. The ground here still slick with patches of ice. As you debate on breaking for a mid-day rest, you see another group off in the distance, maybe a half-mile away. It seems they’re doing the same thing, taking a rest. A group of maybe six to ten, a few wolves resting by their feet. Blinking a few times, you seem to have stumbled on a wandering group of Goblins. You don’t think they’ve seen you yet, but your group is clearly visible. Sim, you didn't notice their tracks when coming up this way. More than likely, they were coming from a different direction. Possibly down the side of the mountain, or they're heading in the direction you're all coming from.
Diadochi looks at the goblin camp and then his companions "the question becomes are we going to engage these goblins, or avoid them. I doubt we can survive a direct engagement, a cave or a cliff face would be helpful" He begins drawing in the dirt/ snow using twigs and rocks to simulate the nearby terrain "something that will limit their ability to flank us, we need more intelligence , the exact number, are these war wolves or beast of burdens, maybe a leader we could take out. Sim or Abigail could scout for us, if Lafetha could turn into some wildlife the goblins wouldn't kill on sight might also do it..." he trails off and then snaps out of it, "Assuming we want to do the engagement route" he smiles sheepishly "I suppose them being friendly isn't out of the question either."
Abigail rolls her eyes. "I think we can rule out the goblins being friendly, Diadochi. I am all for trying to sneak past them; however, if we do not dispatch them now, we may have to fight them later and in greater numbers. Perhaps we should hide - either for an ambush or to observe where they go after they break camp? That way we can strike with the greatest advantage, or be passed up entirely without the need for combat."
