Kelvin nods in agreement. "Wise thoughts indeed."It's a good thing I got involved with this group, he thinks to himself. Just like Aunt Joule said, stick around others and your head'll stay on your shoulders, Winterbreath. He follows the party upstairs into the kitchen, taking a second glance at the oddly preserved fruit. "It'd be such a stupid idea to take a bite of one of these, but I can't help but wonder if it's worthwhile to hold onto one; seems an important clue. Any objections?"Kelvinasks, looking around. "Also have we agreed on whether to explore upstairs first, or the rest of the ground floor?"

According to Viaya, it seems like the group wants to look around more on the ground floor, particularly at entrances to the temple. You can go back to the main hall and re-examine what's left of the front door you broke into or checking the veranda.

"Hmmm...that's a very interesting thought Viaya...We, a group of five (albeit green) adventurers were slightly hard-pressed to make our way into this sanctum, what hope would a child have to do so safely?"He gives a dark chuckle. "Although, I don't suppose Voll's outcome was particularly safe..."Kelvin looks around at his companions, meeting each of them in the eye. "What say all of you to this: we go out on this veranda, and possibly get a new vantage point on the surrounding area and what clues it might yield, we finish clearing around the ground floor, and then we check upstairs." Giving a second glance to the bowl of fruit, he says, "and I can't help but wonder if one of these might serve useful as a clue," and reaches out with a mage hand to pick up a particularly juicy-looking piece of citrus.

Among the documents, you find a few plans for traps your team had not seen yet. One appears to be for the veranda, at least that's what the horribly drawn diagram looks like. The statues are rigged to have a scythe pop out to cut down any unwelcome visitor who gets too close. Another diagram is for the front door. It's some sort of mechanism that triggers when one pulls up on the door handle. A small hole opens and a needle, dowsed in...something pricks the intruder. It's hard to say what potion is being used since the notes are in disarray, but your group pretty much bashed down the door, so you never encountered it. You also find two sets of thieves' tools lying on the table. Taking the time to study these traps has also proved useful in knowing how they typically work.
Kelvingives a small gasp as he remembers the contents of some of his earlier exploration. "Wait shit! There's a scythe trap out on the veranda, give me a moment to recall the details of the plan I saw and I can try to disable it." Kelvin smiles internally with satisfaction as he manages to not repeat his earlier trap-based mishap. It's a good thing I saw those notes on those traps...he thinks. Traps...TrapSS...crap. Pay attention Kelvin..."Guys I'm realizing I forgot something that might be important," Kelvin admits reluctantly, stopping in his tracks. "We broke in with brute force correct? I'm recalling details that I found downstairs of a subtle trap on the front door, something about pricking intruders with some sort of coated needle. I hadn't given it enough thought before I guess, but now that I'm thinking about it seems all too likely this was the cause of Voll's ill fate." He pauses thoughtfully. "We ought to give the front door a second look before going upstairs. As to the trap guarding the veranda..."Kelvin gives Zakon and Viaya a glance. "I'm going to take a stab at this before you tricksy fellows, I think I remember a few details of the plans I saw that should give me an advantage."

Zakon nods as he listens to Kelvin's idea. "But - our other cleric checked the boy over and declared that it was not something he could cure. Surely he would have been able to cure Voll of a simple poison?" Zakon looks at Theo and Viaya questioningly. "In any event, if there are more traps, perhaps your magic hand, Kelvin, could prove useful? If not, perhaps Viaya and I should investigate first?" Zakon again looks at Viaya, head cocked to the side.
Theo shrugs his shoulders. "We don't even know if it is poison, but lesser restoration is something that addresses poison. We have more investigating to do. Certainly."

Oh, thank god someone found the damn needle. I thought our terrible luck at finding things thanks to our spectacular rolls was coming back.
It takes a few minutes brushing away the rubble from the smashed door.Viaya's quick and observant eyes spot the metal needle buried in the broken stone. Careful not to touch its pointed end, she blows off the dust to find that the needle is coated in a dried substance with a rusty, almost purple coloration. Something was on the end of this meant to cause some effect to its poor victim.
Anyone want to dare a medicine check to find out what it might be?

Theo
Theo takes a moment to shoulder his shield and hammer. He steps up to Viaya and looks at the dried purplish substance on the needle. He holds it to his nose and takes a tentative sniff.
Medicine: 9
"This definitely reminds me of something. It is odorless. I presume it is tasteless. That can mean only one thing...: He stops and straightens up. "Well, it could be a few different things."
Theo:While it's not actually a perfect match, you do recognize this as a form of poison that induces sleep. It's not a proper sleep potion that you've known back at your temple. Those are usually pretty mild and only have short-term effects. This one is much more natural and home-made, and definitely stronger. Based on what you learned from the various writings, this has to be something that will knock out an elf, who usually doesn't sleep, and could last a long time.
"This is a sleep derivative, and if they made it strong enough for elves it would probably be considered an overdose for a child. Did anyone examine the child for a needle puncture?" He thinks that if the needle was sticking out of the floor then the puncture wound would probably be on the bottom of the child's foot. He still wasn't sure that the child would have been able to get to the needle. "Do you think that the child would have been able to step on this needle?"
"So it was a type of poison that caused Vall's condition then." Viaya says triumphantly, flashing Theo an admiring smile at his quick identification of the substance coating the needle. The smile fading into a contemplative expression at hisquestions. "I didn't examine him myself, neither did Zakon. We had another cleric with us at the time and thought he'd be better suited to such things. But I think it's more likely the needle was set into the handle of the door than the floor. We'll likely find the puncture mark in his hand when we get back. What about cures though?" She pauses, remembering the scrolls she found. "Would something such as lesser restoration wake him?"
