Varinth readies his staff, feeling it's centre weight, gauging it's whacking potential. While waiting for the eruption of violence, Vaz studies the floating skull, especially the flames. He feels there is flaw in their plan but he is having trouble putting his finger on it.
I'm mostly pretty on board with the idea based on Strix' observation that, lacking arms, it's likely to need its eyes...but it is a burning skull right? Like what kind of danger is the fire OF the skull?
The party reunites in the tunnel leading to the large cavern, and discusses the plan of attack. Together, you sneak quietly through the large cavern and come up close to the large furnace room. Varinth hangs back a little, struggling with his current state of inebriation, while the rest of you head up to the mouth of the cavern and look in. The skull remains near, though not exactly, where it was, floating 20 feet off the ground, facing away from you. You are now ready to carry out your plan.
(OOC : how tall is that Bellows? Wondering if leaping off of that would get me the height I need vs the complicated system of human stairs and allez-oops we originally signed off on? Or are we now saying that the Familiar is dropping the sack on it? I love how many chances you've given us to say "You know what, this is a terrible idea...", really fills me with confidence that we're doing the right thing :D )
((I, for one, have complete faith in every single aspect of this plan. It’s flawless, it’s brilliance is unmatched in the annals of Dungeons & Dragons, nothing could possibly go wrong, God himself couldn’t derail this plan!))
The furnace is about ten feet high. Strix might be able to climb on top of it and jump at the skull from there. There would be acrobatics checks involved, depending on precisely what he will do.
I think you described it perfectly, he'll climb, run, leap like a graceful gazelle and then grab the bastard in a cloak using his weight and momentum to bring it down. Even without a step of the wind, leaping from 10 feet up he'd have the height to just about manage it but he also needs 10 ft of lateral distance so step of the wind to get the big jump. Lil Z drops the cloak, Strix slams the cloak covered skull like a shooting guard, everyone piles on to deliver the blunt force pain.
Bearing in mind Strix can clear his feet 8 ft off the ground and jump 24ft for the next 6 seconds this should be a cakewalk. But he's pushed for time to get it all done, so here's athletics 12
So Zhudala takes the Redbrand cloak (please remove this from Strix's inventory for the moment) and, in imp form, turns invisible. She then flap flap flap (but very quietly) flaps up and over the skull.
She goes unnoticed, and as Strix leaps upon the furnace, she drops the cloak.
Strix, your Athletics is sufficient to get you up onto the furnace and leaping towards the skull at the right time, but now you are attempting to grab the cloak mid-air and pull it in such a way as to grapple the skull and bring it to the ground. Make a new Athletics or Acrobatics check to attempt to do this as a grapple action.
With a massive thwomp, Strix collides with the cloak as it hits the skull, and cloak, skull and shifter hit the floor and tumble, the flaming skull wrapped within the red material. There's a fraction of a second of silence as Strix manages to halt his forward movement, Zhudala hovers above, and the rest of the party watch on, surprised, impressed and anxious to varying degrees.
From inside the now tightly-bound red cloak comes a muffled voice:That may prove not to have been the wisest course of action.
Dekhan sends a silent entreaty to the Ancients as he begins to move stealthily 15

Everyone roll initiative please.
Init 17 and this was Scuppers idea!
"Clickety clack! Get in sack!" Strix hisses, convinced that this was absolutely the wisest course of action.

Oh aye! "Not wise" is what naval captains always say when you put em in a sack... right before ye keel haul them.

Scupper is up. Strix is holding the skull down under the red cloak; it is grappled.
Scupper will hit it with the hammer because every stab is a potential eye hole...
(However, i have no idea what my attack roll is for that)
"I'm gonna mount ye on me ship...when I have one!"
