Well of course. Bandits is amateurs. Piracy takes courage and skill, friend. But...ah... past lives an' all that. Adventuring now. Less money innit but everyone loves adventurers. Legal though it tis, shaking down the locals ain't exactly gettin' you the love o' the common folk eh?
"Currency is fluid," Incantis replies in agreement. "They're not magical, but would you accept these as trade? I am happy to supplement with coin." From his pack Incantis collects the nine small gemstones and dwarven-made electrum mug, piling them on a counter.

Incantis, half-elf warlock (great old one) 4/bard 1 ● Thorok Earthhand, hill dwarf mountain druid 6/grave cleric 2
Cragmyre Ironseed, earth genasi ancestral barbarian 3 ● Cyrus Natriallae, aquatic half-elf warlock of the deep 3
The dragonborn pretty much coos over the gemstones, tracing arcane symbols in the air as she picks up and examines each one. So much potential in these offerings, yes. You have travelled much, to accumulate such a collection, yes? You see the lines of mystic power, the sparkles of greater magic, the tendrils of fey influence enveloping them, yes?
(You don't see anything of the sort.)
She will give 190 gold for the mug and the gems. If Incantis wants to buy both the horn and the pipes, the total is 325 gold, so you will need to supplement with 135 additional gold.
(For everyone, Waterdeep is definitely the place to sell any magical or non-magical junk you have...)
"There is indeed arcane consciousness in their crystalline resonance,"Incantis answers vaguely, collecting 60 gold from his pack to purchase the pipes.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dekhan draws his cards 9You’d be surprised what can earn you the love of the common folk, when I killed the Orc chief Axebiter in single combat I expected animosity at least from his warband, but they fell in line quite well, we parted on good terms and I count them as friends now. persuasion20
Incantis pays, takes the pipes, and returns to the Blushing Mermaid. He sits out the card game, joining Varinth as he first smokes and then snoozes by the fire, and during the next hour gains an understanding of the Pipes of the Sewers he has purchased.
In the final round of the card game, one of the men wins big, with Strix also taking decent winnings of two gold. Scupper recovers his ante of five silver and otherwise wins and loses nothing. Dekhan, unfortunately, is down three gold in this round. Dekhan, Conner claps you on the shoulder as he stands up. The Lady's fickle, ain't she. Look, we meet up for this game once a tenday, and you folk have some good stories. Wild, to be sure, but good. You're welcome to join next time if you like. He looks at Furdy: Come on, we gotta get going, right? Furdy nods and stands, and the two leave together. The other three nod at you, and also take their leave.
(Dekhan's persuasion skills have been enough that you part on good terms, despite a very rocky start, but you don't get much more information from them before they go. However, Conner has given you an address in the Trade Ward, if you want to pursue a career in debt collection.)
It's late, and you're all together. Do you want to discuss plans for tomorrow, or head to bed?
I been followin up some leads in the lower bowels o' society. But I tink me day is free fer now. What say we peruse the rest o' the city, lest someone has a better idea. Maybe the town watch has sometin to tell us o'er an ale. We could finds where they get onto after shift.
So, rather than head to bed, you walk out of the Blushing Mermaid. The party outside is in full swing, with multiple, mostly good-natured fights going on around the square, and no sign of intervention from the City Watch. You can head towards the Trade Ward, or towards the waterfront along the paths you travelled earlier in the day, or deeper into the back alleys of the Dock Ward.
If you're looking to find where the City Watch drinks after they're off-duty, how will you find that out?
I'm assuming that Strix and Incantis have joined, and have roused Varinth from his stupor to come with?
Scupper would like to enter a fight to find out about the watch. He can talk it over while they nurse bloody noses together. He gives Dekhan a slap on the leg as he walks toward a fight.
Well, Dek...what better way to gain some more info than a friendly fist fight.
There are two fights close by. One is a group of very drunk people fighting against another group of very drunk people, mostly using bits of broken furniture with the odd thrown tankard. The other looks a bit nastier - a group of seven humans beating on four half-orcs, shouting obscenities at them as they do so. The half-orcs are giving as good as they get, but seem to want to get away more than anything.
There's some racist stuff in there, for sure. 'Grayskins' and 'Tuskboys' are two that you hear more than once. The half-orcs are responding in kind, but less aggressive - this isn't a fight they want.
"scuse gentsmens," Strix says insinuating himself between the humans and half orcs. "Numbers not add. Tempus thing. So stop. Or must make oddses evenses."
The apparent leader of the seven thugs is a burly man, a mix of muscle and fat; he doesn't look like he'll be a match for Strix in a fight. Not even close. However, he appears to disagree.
What the... What are you, some kind of beast man? ****in' vermin. And he takes a swing at you.
Strix, please roll initiative.
(For the moment, the other six men have their hands full with the half-orcs, so this will be a one on one - unless someone else wants to join in, in which case roll initiative as well.)

Got no use for the love of the common folk, Conner replies. I can see how it would be a good living, but... nah, it's not for me.
Are Dekhan and Strix joining the last round of the game? If so, please roll.

Strix shrugs and examines his cards.

Dekhan watches their new acquaintances leave., nodding and clapping shoulders as they go. I’m with you, Scup. I’ve a few hours in me yet.

"Come Vaz! Watch fight. Or fight fight! Fun eithers!"
(What kinds of obscenities, btw? Anything that might rile a previously bullied racial minority kicking and punching machine?)
