Dekhan grits his teeth and swings high with Talon, hoping to cause the fighter to move to block the blow, at the last moment Dekhan adjusts his grip and lets the tip of the blade fall lower, attempting to catch his opponent in the armpit.Attack: 9 Damage: 7 Dekhan feels the hilt slip in his hand but tries to use the momentum of the failed attack to his advantage as he brings the blade around behind him and back at the fighters head, nothing fancy this time, just brute force. Attack: 25 Damage: 10
Strix darts in, swinging the opposite ends of his staff first at head then groin as if trying to compress the man to fit into a too-small box, then kicks out at his chest to try and propel himself back to the nice, safe wall.
Scupper, you just sneak a hit; he almost deflects, but you've aimed at a point he wasn't guarding as well as he thought, and the rapier strikes home.
Dekhan's first swipe is just embarrassing, but it serves to distract the fighter from the second which slices into his arm; he grunts with pain, and seems to be waking to his predicament.
Strix strikes once, then twice... and the second blow was enough. It's the groin shot that does for him. Best not to go into details.
The fight is over. There are still burning chairs and rags here and there, but none that threaten to get out of control. A total of ten corpses lie bloody and dead on the ground, and there's still the unexplored flight of steps headed down to the east.
Incantis silently makes his way to the top of the stairs, listening intently while Scupper searches the bodies. "Let's keep an eye open, I've no healing left," he rasps. He take a moment to warg into Zhudala, curious if some reaction has been roused at the other hideout.

Cragmyre Ironseed, earth genasi ancestral barbarian 3 ● Cyrus Natriallae, aquatic half-elf warlock of the deep 3

Incantis, there's no sound or sign of anyone else in the hideout, at least not within range of Zhudala/your passive perception, but you can give me a roll if you like.
Scupper, you find an array of standard weapons and armour - scimitars, leather, the usual kind of thing. The leader has a flail and a spear, though again just common non-magical items. Between them (and it takes a good fifteen minutes to search them all) you find 69 gold, 121 silver and 58 copper pieces on the gang.
On two of the regular gang members, plus the leader, you find small pieces of parchment, some folded and others rolled up, depicting pretty good likenesses of Incantis and Varinth. There's no text to accompany the images.
On the leader's corpse, you find an envelope which contains a beautifully handwritten note, addressed to a 'Master Tren Commarat', inviting them to attend a gala at the Divlayne residence in Waterdeep a few nights from now. You recall that Varinth showed you an almost identical invitation addressed to him, that was left by the presumed kidnappers of Soodi.
Strix props himself up with his staff in one hand and the wall in the other, breathing heavily.
"Hope...lesson...learned. Not sure... want ...teach.... more."
If any of the dead are carrying a serviceable short-bow and arrows, and you're still cool with the Tasha's optional rules, consider them nicked! Otherwise, will just try to cover Incantis from any potential guests coming up the stairs if he notices that the Warlock's attention is elsewhere.
Scupper grabs the loot and the notes and leaves weapons for anyone else after picking up daggers (his own two and any others)
“So shall we enter? They seem pretty quiet about any more objections.” Nodding over to the leaders body which has been sat up against the south wall with his arms splayed in a welcoming gesture to the stairs. “He seems ok with it.”

Incantis gives Scupper a quizzical look for a half moment before realizing the halfling is kidding. He follows along behind, and can't help but try to be quiet about it.
Meanwhile, Zhudala, having just been pinged, focuses back on her admittedly dull task. She idly scratches her feathers with a spindly carapaced leg. 13

Yep, Steve - dedicated weapon would make a single non-heavy weapon I'm proficient in a monk weapon. It's not much but it would allow firing a short (but not long) bow and using Flurry or Unarmed strike BA under Martial Arts. Not sure it works for darts since only one of them would be my monk weapon :) Monk gets a lot of Tasha's toys, so I grabbed them all, but will be sure to call them out if using. )
Incantis, Zhudala detects some dirt on her feathers and is engrossed in cleaning it off. She doesn't notice much of use.
Scupper and Incantis descend the stairs. What you find looks something like a barracks, though in very untidy and poorly-kept condition. A table for gathering, some bunks - all unoccupied - for sleeping, and nothing that strikes you as valuable or interesting. Apart from the large, heavy wooden door, firmly closed, on the far side of the room, from which emanates a not terribly pleasant, indeed one might say 'sewerish' smell.

What would you like to do?
Dekhan blows out a ragged breath Press on? Get to the bottom of this once and for all?
Aye. Let’s find out who’s in charge here...hopefully not that one.
(if there’s time, Scupper does a quick pat down on the bodies looking for anything interesting...especially the magic users and the captain)
Please make a Perception check for Scupper as he searches the bodies.

This is 'dedicated weapon' for Strix? Looks good to me, but make sure you declare it in advance, i.e.when you finish the rest.
Well lets be off then afore he changes his mind
Scupper starts to walk down the stairs, slipping daggers about his person, and slips into a stealthy tip toe on his way. He whispers back...
Wouldn’t want to wake anyone what might’ve slept through the battle
