Dekhan smiles again, perhaps a bit more wolfishly than before, and says Birds of a feather, then, friends. We watch for trouble as well but do not seek it. Those who do seek it often find it with us, though, often of an order of magnitude more than they were hoping for. He maintains his relaxed but confident posture and adds. So yes, in the interests of getting to the heart of the matter, I eagerly await your answer to my friend's question.
The man replies, also in thieves' cant, which only Scupper would understand. If you've cleared out the nest, we can fly away. The subtext is essentially that they were on surveillance of the people you just killed.
Then continues in common: We're part of a friendly group of independent contractors, if you know what I mean. No friends to those who set the city ablaze and bring the Watch running from all directions. That's no way to run a gang, not in these parts. They got some foreign woman in charge, from what I hear. Not that I hear much, you understand. But we have friends, you know? He looks down the direction you came: It's clear then? The... nest?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dekhan smiles again, one wolf to another, As crystal, my friend. Now, speaking purely hypothetically if you were to hazard a guess as to this woman's motivations, origins, or name, what would you say? One friendly independent contractor to another? (just in case) Persuasion20
Thieves cant: I would pay my respects to your guild leader.
”Tell your boss we share common cause. This woman eh? We aint crossed paths but we owes her a real unfriendly visit. We’ve crossed swords enough wif her gang but she’s gone and made things personal, just like. I’m Scupper and this is me mate Dek. We’ve a small group what you might heard of...the Motley Crew. Nice te have new friends.”
Dekhan, the men seem a little wary of you, but do answer briefly: Dunno what she wants. Not to be a gang leader in Waterdeep, that's for sure. She's attracting way too much attention from higher-ups. I reckon (the other rolls his eyes) she's after something; it's all a distraction, and then poof! She's gone, leaving all the dumbasses who joined her gang to swing in the wind. That's my take, for what it's worth.
Scupper, the other man nods, paying more attention to you than to his friend's conversation with Dekhan. He shakes your hand. Scupper. Name rings a bell, can't quite place it. I'll let my associates know what you said. How can you be contacted, so to speak?
You ever sail much? Might be where you heard me name. Leastwise the sea is where most’ve learned me best.
We stop by the Drunken Mermaid every night for a drop o’ the creature. We’re headed that way soon enough. One o’ me mates is eh...the thirsty type. You look for us later tonight and if not then the morrow night would do as well.
Say...me havin’ been out o’ city so long, it’s not only me own reputation what’s faded. You ever hear the name Master Tren Commarat? Know anyting of the fella...or lass?
Me? On a ship? Hah, that'd be a right laugh, the man replies. When you mention the name Tren Commarat, the man scowls and spits. Master Tren, is it? Smalltime scumbag for hire, liked to think he was better than the rest of us, had big dreams of being in the nobility. I heard he joined up with these Forsaken idiots. Not a man worth your time, if you run into him.
The two seem eager to get going, and if you let them, they will head down towards the former Forsaken base that you just ransacked.
thank them for their time and advice and hope to see them at the inn this evening...it’s Blushing Mermaid isn’t it (might have flubbed the name) I’m guessing they know the place but I try to give them basic directions. We should gather our group and check the door
The door opens easily and leads up to another seemingly abandoned house hundred metres or so from the one you entered. Though it's hidden, there's no magic involved this time and you would guess this is more commonly used by thieves and other members of the underworld as they access the sewer system from above. You can go back up, or remain in the sewers if you wish.
(OOC : Well, they are going to notice that the safe-house got cleared out, is it safe to assume they'll know it was us? If so maybe we need to go back to our floating flop house and recuperate, keep an eye on the Mermaid through Zhudala in case the Foresaken decide to hit back at us, or the thieves guild show up. I don't know if there's a back-alley cleric casting Cures for cash, but it might be no harm finding out. Tram is clearly the quick route into getting our camel back but if he's as small-time as they say, he's probably just a patsy. That may mean we can lean on him without getting into a scrap but he's thrown in with the Foresaken and we're in no shape for a scuffle right now. So my vote is we recover as best we can, do a bit of digging into the family and then see if the guild show up, pump them for info on Tram who it seems they'd be quite happy to see meet with misfortune. I think I chose your option E, all of the above :D )
Aye,Incantis whispers back. I could use a rest and pick me up.
((I agree we should look into either Tram or this woman leader; do you all think there's a chance we took the invite off of Tram's body? If he got involved with the FOrsaken & all))

You return to the floating platform that Scupper rented/commandeered - it doesn't appear to have been disturbed, and you get the sense that your generous fee has also purchased some basic security, ensuring that no nosey locals disturb you there. Whatever the cause, you find the place exactly as you left it, and you are able to get a good night's sleep.
You wake in the morning, having completed a long rest.
(For the sake of clarity, I'm trying to tidy up the timeline and days, so let's fix ourselves to the calendar of Faerun, called the Harptos Calendar. Today (the new day as you wake) is the 7th day of Kythorn. You arrived in Waterdeep on the 3rd of Kythorn, and the event at the Divlayne Manor is scheduled for 10th Kythorn. These are the last few days of spring, with summer effectively beginning around 20th Kythorn.)
((Sorry! Editing the podcast killed my brain for a few days!))
**With the men in the sewers** Dekhan nods and considers the man's words. Unfortunatley there's never a shortage of dumbasses waiting to take a fall. Thanks, friend, see you around.
**back in the present** The world looks a little clearer through fresh eyes... Now, do we take this fight directly to the Forsaken? Find this woman and our answers? We have a few days before the event.
”We have yet t’ understand why the Divlayne family is the host o’ these invites from the Forsaken unless the woman running these arses is a Divlayne herself, or she has the family under her thumb someways.”
Dekhan grimaces slightly I'm afraid I'm a bit out of my depth where societal intrigue is concerned. Vaz, you come from money, do you have any insight on this? Also, what's the plan regarding Soodi?
After a very long rest on a gently rocking boat, Varinth wakes with a start.
Wha! Hey! My octopus doesn't have feathers!
After a focusing on reality somewhat Varinth answers Dekhans question ;
I come from money I suppose, but it's smelly money not high society money... they're tanners not merchants. And what's wrong with Soodi? Where is she? It's then that Vaz notices that the room is actually rocking and not just his usually drunk brain giving that impression.
Are we on a boat?!

Scupper extends his hand for shake
Varinth asks Incantis to come closer and whispers in his ear
can we go to the pub now?

Well lads? What now?
(I see a few options:
track down this invite bastard - Master Tram
Fast forward to the Mermaid and wait for the thieves guild
look into the wealthy family seen to be hosting this event
try to find out who this woman running the fire gang is - no idea how - unless she’s also a Divlayne)

Unless there are objections, mayhaps we take a bit' o' shuteye on the boat, then head te' the Mermaid for planning.
