Serak: Huddled in the ruined tower discussing their options, Serak formulates a quick plan and says, "Let's get the drop on them!"
First, he casts Silence as a Ritual on the corridor leading to the King's chamber, the edge of the radius ending at the door and the curtain, leaving the other sides unaffected. Next, he sprinkles a bag of caltrops and ball bearings just in front of the curtain. Finally, Serak accepts the Paladin's Blessing as he slathers his Rapier in poison from the Green Dragon gland.
Moving into the eerily quiet hall, Serak lines up behind Beetle and Arkhan as they prepare to breach the door. The Bard holds up three fingers, lowering one digit, then the second and finally the last as he mouths the word, "NOW!".
Assuming the party surprises King Grol, Serak will follow into the room and move to cut off any escape before choosing an action.
Edit: Forgot I was saving the poison sac for this boss fight. Assuming it's still good, I added a blurb with Serak poisoning his Rapier.
Following Serak plan, Beetle asks Tyr for help once again as he casts bless and a radiance falls over Serak, Arkhan, and himself... feeling the divine power come over him with Talon drawn Beetle bursts through the door advancing towards any cluster of targets or the biggest most dangerous target he can find...
The door bursts open revealing two figures standing before them around a small wooden table. The first, a fierce looking bugbear, much older than any the party have encountered to date. A thick pink scar dominates the beasts face, running between his narrow eyes, carving a chunk from his upper lip. A small, golden crown sits awkwardly between the creatures ears - King Grol. Without a moments hesitation Grol flexes his hunched shoulders, reaching for his weapon.
Beside Grol, a tall male Drow barely glances up at the intrusion. A sadistic smile creeps slowly across his mouth, stretching his face slightly from one pointed ear to the other. A flicker of firelight reflects on the drows large forehead, catching slightly on the seemingly metallic detailing on his sheer black armour. Long white hair cascades onto his shoulders, where a dark purple cloak is neatly fastened at his neck. On each of the drows arms and legs he wears elegantly crafted steel greaves and gauntlets - shaped to look like fine spiders webbing. The Blackspider, out of hiding at last.
A low, angry growl meets Beetles ears as he peeks inside. A huge wolf in the left corner of the room, rises to its feet from a deep slumber.
To the rear of the group, Gundren tightens his grip on his dagger. Waiting patiently for his opportunity.
OOC: You guys will have surprise if an attack is what you're planning here. You nailed the initiative rolls as well so it's basically two free attacks!
Serak: Deciding to keep his Silence spell active to muffle the sounds of battle, Serak draws his poisoned Rapier as he follows behind the others. Seeing the doorway and wolf to the north, Serak agilely rounds the corner before lunging at the canine. He shouts to Arkhan, "Give them hell!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Beetle, with Talon already drawn and ready for action as they breached moves quickly as possible towards B1. (2 spaces east) As he nears Beetle uses a bonus action to place
Hexblade’s Curse on the King
Once per short rest, as a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 ft. to curse it for 1 minute (or until the target dies, you die, or you are incapacitated). Against the cursed target, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls, score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20, and you regain 5 HP if it dies.
As Beetle nears the target prayers to Tyr can be heard and his sword bursts into a Green-flame blade
Attack: 21 Damage: 12
(also add Bless 4 to hit, and Curse +2 to damage)
If Beetle lands a hit Green Flame jumps to BS for 3 damage
Shoving the door firmly against the stone wall, Beetle charges inside. A few short strides later, Talon lands its blow.
Attack: 25 Damage: 13
A bright flash of green signals the others behind to follow. Grol roars in anger, clearly caught off guard by the sudden intrusion. Sizzling green flame spews from his body, splashing against the Blackspiders dark armour. The drow merely continues to smile wryly, reaching for a weapon of his own.
Grol takes a step backwards against the blow, still reaching for the morningstar. A look of anger and excitement swirling furiously in his eyes.
OOC: Arkhan, you'd be next but I think Beetle would now be in your range for your breath attack?
OOC: Arkhan, you'd be next but I think Beetle would now be in your range for your breath attack?
ooc: ah not what i would like to have happen. so if it's alright. Arkhan would have changed plans with an ally running into the fray. Running in with Hew slashing at the Black Spider (north 1, east 1, south 2)

OOC: I added the Bless to my post. Also, Serak suggested that Gundren take armor and a weapon from the ambush, unless he's not proficient or it was unusable?
Which reminds me, if I recall correctly, we didn't get EXP for that fight or the one before it. Don't worry BB, you're still doing a great job! Hard to believe this campaign has been going on for 1 year already! Still having a lot of fun with it. I'd be interested in continuing these characters and recruiting a few new players once we finish this campaign.
I'm thinking of DMing a Campaign myself soon to teach my friend how to play. If any of you are interested, you have first dibs.
OOC: agree with you 100% Serak still loving this group and campaign after all thsi time and would love to keep it going....I still want to get our headquarters built...lol... Would also be interested in playing in you campaign if you DM 1 just let us know.
OOC: I completely forgot about the XP! I've Pm'd you all with excuses, but I'll crack on and update this asap.
Frustratedly following Beetles lead, Arkhan storms into the room. A crackle of lightning sparking into life along his arm as he raises Hew above his head. In three long strides the dragonborn reaches his target, bringing his blade down upon the grinning Black Spider.
Attack: 14 Damage: 5 If he moves: 4 thunder damage
A thick ream of black fabric ripples into the air as Hew slices into the BlackSpiders shoulder. Steel armour sings out as Arkhan withdraws his blade, a deep dent carved into the drows pauldron. The wry smile twists into a snarl as the Blackspider rises to his feet.
A wintery chill suddenly descends upon the room. Syna, standing in the doorway, extends an arm towards the hunched bugbear, a small flurry of snow scattering from his fingers. With a flick of his wrist, the druid sends a blast of cold towards King Grol.
King Grol Constitution Save: 4 Spell Save DC: 13 Damage: 4 (+ D/A on next round weapon attack)
Last to enter the room, Serak is pleased to see a plan come into action. Poisoned rapier drawn he glides through the doorway, instantly spotting the nearby wolf. With a shout to Arkhan, the bard lunges forward, plunging his blade into the wolfs chest.
Action - Attack: 16 Damage: 5 + 7(Poison) = 12
The wolf instantly recoils and whimpers as poison burns within the fresh wound. As the beast rises to its paws, its sheer size becomes apparent. This wolf, much is much larger than those Serak has seen previously. Teeth easily as large as each one of the bards fingers.
OOC: XP gains: So the 5x goblins, 2x wolves and 2x hobgoblins from the ambush give you all 138xp each (I won't count Gundren as he was hopeless :D
I think the armour was largely unusable but Gundren managed to scrape together something. He now has a Scimitar and a set of leather armour. Serak, you can have your dagger back.
Still standing in the corridor, Gundren does his best to take cover, hiding in the silence around the door. As he waits for the room to thin out he draws his blade, desperately trying to control his suddenly rapid breathing.
Battle raging all around him, Serak can't help but laugh as he says, "What's the matter, gentlemen? Weren't expecting us? You seem to know our every move, so I assumed supper and a warm fire would be awaiting us!"
Smirking wryly, he shouts, "Beetle, won't you show them how to properly greet a guest?"
A loud crackle of flame echoes around the chamber as Beetle slashes his sword once more towards the old bugbear king, a flash of green reflected in his eyes
Attack: 10
Grol reels backwards effortlessly, parrying the blow with an experienced arm. A quick snarled chuckle ripples across his lips as he raises a weapon of his own.
