Sildar staggers to his feet. Still visibly weak but itching for a fight. He collects what he can from his dead captors littering the floor, a short bow, a rusted scimitar and an assortment of leather armour mostly too small for his adult frame. He looks ridiculous.
“This will have to do. Do you think I’d pass for a goblin? BURKALARG!”
He forces a laugh, trying to move on from the torment he’s suffered in the last 48 hours.
Serak: Laughing will the old warrior, Serak hands him a short bow and some arrows. He takes a bow for himself as well and studies the pouch around the leaders neck. "Good to see you have some fight left in you. There are three goblins in the next chamber. No telling how many more beyond that."
Preoccupied thinking of the coming battle, Serak turns to Sildar. "Forgive my manners. Anxious to get this fighting done is all. I am Serak The Skald, at your service. These two fine elven fellows are Syna and Zyltris, and of course Sir Juice, Paladin of Tyr."
"Not much cover in the next room, besides a bolder I snuck behind. Should be enough for us to provide ranged support from behind it while we rush them. There are two goblins each standing near two large pools and a single guard between them. Also a large door behind which I assume are more goblins and possibly their leader."
OOC: With the bonus exp I got, I'll level up. I didn't know you were doing bonus exp, or I would have suggested Syna get some too for dealing with the wolves as peacefully as possible. Just a suggestion, but he saved a life we'd have taken without him.
In the pouch, Serak is slightly repulsed to find 3 gold teeth, as well as 15 silver pieces.
Sildar smiles at the bard, glad to have inserted some humour into the situation.
“Don’t forget about that beast Klarg too! The bugbear that controls these goblins. That one there was small pickings, merely a troop sergeant. Klarg is a real piece of work. We must proceed cautiously.”
OOC: Serak, that 75XP will raise you up to level 2. Don’t forget to add 2 ability points and your extra HP before the next battle
Edit: That’s a good point Almarath, looks like I forgot about the wolves xp after the mess I made of the bridge encounter! Sorry guys!
Syna I should have given you 100xp for the wolves. That'll take you up to 300xp and level 2 as well.
OOC: I've leveled Serak, but he doesn't get +2 ability points until level 4. Picked his new lvl 1 spell and he gained a spell slot, so he has 1 casting left now. Also, his initiative is now +4 and Jack Of All Trades gives half proficiency to all skill checks he's not proficient in, so +1 right now.
Edit: Actually Jack Of All Trades is + 1/2 Proficiency rounded down to every Ability Check he makes, which is why it raises initiative.
"Besides walking around over the bridge and past the pools, wasn't there a tunnel behind the wolves? Maybe we should go check where that leads." Beetle interjects to the group.
Answering Beetle, Serak gestures toward Sildar, "The path behind the wolves was up a nearly vertical climb and I'm not sure Sildar could safely make the ascent. Besides, I'd not like to walk back down near the stream with those two goblins still standing at the pools, waiting to release the held back water. There are only three. If you and Zyltris rush them while the rest of us provide support, we should make short work of them, unless we've got a better option?

Beetle: "OK sounds like a plan to me, if we are ready we should move out soon, the longer we wait the more chance they figure out something is wrong here."
OOC: I'm pretty sure you can level up here but used slots are still used until a rest, if you gain anymore slots though leveling up they should be available.
OOC: Correct again Beetle. Used spell slots can only be reused after resting. But new slots you can after levelling are available for use immediately.
If you want you can level up later and I’ll just keep track of your xp in the campaign notes til then, probably more beneficial to level up now though!
Also, Kasian, when did you get hit? Did I forget about an attack on you somewhere? Syna is at 5/8 hp
OOC: Haha yeah I see that would be a bit of a change! You can still train up like that in downtime during an adventure I think but overall, 5e is more computer gamey? for experience. Which I guess would take a bit of getting used to if you're not used to it
If you guys are set with the plan then I'll continue. Beetle and Zyltris will go on ahead, Sildar, Serak and Syna will provide support - correct me if that order is wrong in any way.
Zyltris leads the way out of the firelit chamber, Beetle follows closely behind, his sight slowly fading as darkness envelops him. A short distance behind, Serak, Syna and Sildar follow suit, their ranged weapons ready. Before long the party discover the aging wooden bridge, the lifeless corpse of a goblin lies blocking their path as they cross, the two humans stumble awkwardly over it in the gloom. The warm glow of firelight is now long behind them, the unmistakable roar of rushing water up ahead, the air begins to get cold and damp.
Finally reaching the end of the long tunnel, the group stands just outside of a large chamber. The lack of light makes it impossible for Beetle and Sildar to make out any details of what is ahead.
Zyltris, Serak and Syna:
In the darkness, Zyltris, Syna and Serak use their darkvision to survey the scene.
The caverns ceiling flickers shades of grey, reflections from two large pools of water below. A sequence of narrow waterfalls feed from the eastern wall, through the two pools and out into the stream flowing through the cave passage. Each pool is damned by a simplistic fieldstone wall connected to an adjacent large wooden lever. Pulling a lever results in the connected wall collapsing, releasing the vast water store it holds back, flooding the passage back to the cave entrance.
Beside each lever stands a solitary goblin guard. A third goblin patrols between them and a large natural doorway on the southernmost wall. Each goblin stands well armed. A scimitar resting on its hip and a short bow and quiver of black feathered arrows.
The noise from the waterfalls echoing around the chamber is deafening. It is unlikely that any sounds made in this chamber will be heard elsewhere in the cave.
Beetle:

The smell of fresh water... maybe? He reaches out and touches a nearby wall, its texture damp and cold, like the air.
Syna says, "We have 1 goblin north, 1 directly ahead, and a third patrolling. I will make a fire of the patrolling. That should surprise them, and give a little light."
Syna calls forth his power with a wave of his staff and her the words "pidnimit vohon"

OOC: is your hit point chart showing how many I’ve taken rather than remaining?
Zyltris will attempt to sneak towards G1 as Syna lights up the patrolling goblin. In doing this the goal is to get a surprise attack with my Morningstar while G1 is distracted by the light. Stealth: 18

“I may be old my boy, but I can assure you I am certainly not deaf!”
Sildar throws a deathly stare at Serak. Then chuckles to himself.
“Whichever course of action, you feel is appropriate. You know this cave better than I.”
I am prepared to charge the goblins.
Who-hop.. 2nd level. Does that reset my spell slots or should I wait for town to level up?

OOC: I been doing tons of reading, trying to learn enough and maybe run my own campaign eventually.
OOC: Haha! I think we’ve all been reading by the sounds of it. If you ever decide to go DM give me a shout.
OCC I've playes 1st Ed since 80. Back in the day you had to spend a month per level "training" before you got the level.
