Brots looking toward the noise, sees Serak standing there. "God damn it Serak! Seriously!? What are you thinking?" He asks, curious as to what was going through his head, especially after the recent events.
Sister Garaele thinks for a moment. The disappears behind the shrine wall. She returns holding a potion of healing, reluctantly offering it to Beetle."It's not much sir but I'm afraid it is all I can offer you. I was sent them by my superiors to help me in a quest of my own, but I feel your need will be greater than mine. Perhaps when this Redbrand problem is dealt with you could return to help me in exchange?"
Sitting beside the human, she brushes her long white hair out of her face, "To be honest Sir, Tymora has blessed me with having never met a Redbrand member. All I know is that they hide out to the east of town. One of my parishioners, a halfling named Lady Alderleaf, her farm out that way about a quarter mile from here . She has asked me to pray for her son recently as he had been playing in the fields below the manor house and ended up being chased away by a group of them. Fate has brought you too me sir, Yes, I am sure with luck in your heart Qelline would be able to help you."
Stepping quickly into the Coster, Serak laughs to himself and says, "I had to test my disguise on someone, didn't I?"
Having taken a lot of time between hiding the bodies and the disguise, he'll enter the main room of the Coster after the interrogation is finished, calling out, "Fear not! It is only I, Serak the Skald! Not a bad disguise, eh? If you all also wear these cloaks, it should help us get closer to our next target than we'd otherwise be able. At the very least we can surprise them while the cloaks make them hesitate. Did the mercenary have any useful information?"
”Thank you very much Sister, a healing potion will come in very handy. Also thank you very much I will try to speak to the boy in case he has information.” Beetle pauses for a moment, “As for your quest, I will speak to my companions and if they agree we will come back once the Redbrands are dealt with to help you with your quest. If they are not interested I can try to gather a few willing and help also. So I will do my best to come back and help with your quest.”
After Beetle says his good bye’s to the Sister, whispers one final prayer to Tyr, and takes his leave, heading back to the inn and meet his companions.
Regaining her composure, Linenes face turns a dark shade of red. "SERAK THE SKALD YOU ARE AN IDIOT AND A FOOL! I SHOULD KILL YOU RIGHT WHERE YOU STAND!" She throws an annoyed slap his way but barely makes contact. Her raised voice seems to stir the unconscious elf lying motionless on the floor. "I'm afraid your captive is no longer with us. I knew the boy once. Hired him to deliver goods from Baldurs Gate. Sweet lad he was. But...."
Her voice trails off again, as she begins to put her store back in order. Zyltris turns to leave the store, a second later the others follow. "Beetle said he was heading to the Inn, perhaps it's best you head that way before Riardon here regains himself." She crouches beside the unconscious elf and presses a palm against his forehead.
Outside, the town square is quietening. Late afternoon draws onwards, nearing the end of the working day. Across the square, the solitary figure of Beetle strides across to the Inn.
Beetle, feeling refreshed from his prayer session finds a table where he can see the whole room including the door and awaits his companions, thinking over everything Sister Garaele and he talked about.
"Yes my friends." Beetle says looking much more at peace. "I apologize for my actions earlier but killing to serve justice is 1 thing to me but torture is something I have a hard time with, on good by nature races anyhow."
"I did have an interesting conversation with Sister Garaele at the shrine. She did not have information herself to offer us about the Redbrands but she said we should go to Lady Alderleaf's farm and talk to her son who had a run in with the Redbrands a couple days ago just outside their manor. She said he might be able to offer some information." Beetle pauses a moment and pulls out a potion of healing"she also gave me this to help in our quest, but asked in return when we finish with the Redbrands if we might be willing to help her with a quest of her own. I told her I would see what the group decided and if we will help we will return after the Redbrands are cleared out."
"One of you should take this potion as I already have 1 and Zyltris has one. Maybe Brots should hold this 3rd one?"
Brots, excited to be included jumps up and down. "Your darn tooten I'll hold on to it." He reaches out to grab it. "If anyone needs it though let me know! I'll gladly give it to you." He grabs the potion and sits down in a chair next to Beetle.
Syna takes a seat and begins to collect his thoughts, "Have we accomplished much with these brigands? Left alone, surely they would have continued like ticks on a dog. While Gundren we know to be in more immediate danger. But now, we have stirred this hornet's nest and who knows what shall befall this town. And now the sister offers us a third problem to solve... We must finish our tasks before we start, and now I fear the most pressing must be these brigands before they retaliate. Let us go see this farmer straight away, so we may then see to Gundren and the war drums."
Brots raises his hand. "I have an idea!" He moves so that he can speak to all of the group. "Serak, that was a good disguise, how many of those do you have?" He asks, forming a plan in his head.
"I agree Gundren is a pressing issue but helping some people along the way will help us hone our skill and grow in power so we are ready for whatever evil forces hold Gundren." Beetle replies..."and yes the Redbrands at this point must be finished or they may retaliate against the townspeople for their 4 missing comrades."
Brots, after hearing Beetle agrees. "Actually, I agree with Beetle, I say we take on some other jobs and hone our skills so that we don't get wiped out when going for Gundren."
Serak: With a sheepish smile, Serak replies to Linene, "Apologies for startling you, m'lady. I may be a fool and killing is the least I deserve, but the eastern road is almost certainly being watched. Any gang worth the name would set a watchman to warn of approach along the road and a mercenary gang doubly so." Taking the cloak from the interrogated Redbrand, he bows to Linene before leaving the Lionshield. As he walks out the door, he says, "Oh, and there are three more dead Redbrands hidden in the crates in your shed. Good day, ma'am!" as he flees her wrath.
Still disguised as the slain Redbrand, the bard removes the red cloak from his shoulders before leaving with the others to the Stonehill Inn. Producing three more cloaks from his pack, he says to Beetle, "I've three more cloaks. Master Brots most go without, but I imagine he can sneak along with us, or perhaps we pretend he is a prisoner? I agree we should speak to the farmer boy first."
Turning to Syna, the bard answers his concerns, "I am also worried for Rockseeker, but we must discover where he was taken. Sildar also wishes to find Gundren, but he's asked us to find Iarno first. Perhaps if we find Iarno, he'll be able to point us in the right direction?"
Beetle: "We may even be able to take care of some other stuff (ogre posting, Sister Garaele's quest..) while searching for Iarno and Gundren. I only fear rushing into a situation trying to save Gundren and getting ourselves captured or killed and he still isn't saved." Beetle takes out his new coin from Sister Garaele, "Fear not though my friends, we still have the favor of Tyr, stronger than ever, and apparently we have the Luck Of Tymora with us now also!" Beetle says as he flips the coin in the air and catches it. "Another reason I feel we should at least hear what Sister Garaele needs us to do, then decide when to do it...of after we finish these Redbrands...so if all are ready we should head to the farm."
Brots nods, checking his backpack to make sure he has everything then checks on Iris. "You good Iris?" He asks, as Iris nods back in agreement. "We're set!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Serak: Preparing to leave the Inn, the bard says, "If agreed, let us head next then to Lady Alderleaf's home. Their farm is far from the Sleeping Giant Inn and the manor on the hill. If the boy was confronted, they may have been concerned he saw something he shouldn't."
Assuming the trip is uneventful, upon arriving at the farm, Serak scans the manor on the hill for signs of activity. Surveying the woods below the hill and surrounding wilderness, he says, "While you talk to the boy, I'd like to search those woods and surrounding area for an alternate route up to the manor."
Alderleaf farm is a small isolated homestead on the south east side of town. The farmyard is a small oval shaped area surrounded by small low buildings - a hayloft, chicken coop and wood cabin, short for a regular sized human but perfectly sized for Brots. The land beyond the yard contains of a smallish field, about half an acre is size, filled with a range of root vegetables - potatoes, carrots and parsnips. Beyond it, a crumbling stone wall marking out the boundary of the town, with a dense wood spreading north east towards the Sword Mountains. Serak sneaks off towards the forest before entering the yard.
Beetle, Brots, Syna, Zyltris:
As the party arrives they are greeted by a halfling woman who is feeding chickens with a small sack of maize. She is around 45 years of age, short black curly hair hidden below a flat cloth cap. Across the yard, a younger halfling, no more than 10, chases the chickens playfully. When the adventurers arrive, he stops dead in his tracks, completely awestruck. As his mother speaks, he has already sprinted towards the group excitedly.
The halfling woman, looks up and sees the party. She beams a smile at them and heads there way, spreading maize as she goes, " 'ello there fellows! Are you looking for a place to stay the night? Heard there was some trouble in the...." A flash knocks her clumsily to the floor. Maize flies through the air as the sack hits the sandy ground scattering the chickens away. The younger halfling, stands before Beetle and the others, jumping up and down energetically. "HI!MYNAMESCARP!WHATSYOURS?AREYOUADVENTURERS?IMANADVENTURERTOO!OOOOISTHATASWORDCANISEE?HOWMANYORCSHAVEYOUKILLEDORDRAGONSEVERSEENADRAGON?GREENDRAGONSAREMYFAVOURITEKINDBUTILIKE..."
Looking up from the floor, the halfling woman is red with anger "CARP! LOOK WHAT YOU DONE YOU SILLY LITTLE HALFLIN'!" Composing herself in front of her guests she calms slightly, her red face becomes more magenta as she rises to her feet and collects her now empty maize sack. The chickens cluck happily at the abundance of food now covering the yard. "Stop annoyin' these men Carp. And slow down they can' understand a word you're sayin'. I'm sorry fellows, he just loves adventurers and explorers."
Serak:
Sneaking off around the northern side of the farm. Apart from a sudden frenzied squawk of chickens and the yells of middle aged woman the farmland is quiet. Climbing carefully through a broken section of stone walls, the bard makes his way into the woodland. Inside the forest floor is dark, sunlight blocked out by the dense canopy. Following the treeline northwards, Serak eventually comes to a set of two steep cliffs, muddy and at roughly 20 foot high, they are surely unscalable. A short distance along the foot of the lower cliff, a dense thicket emerges. In the gloom Serak notices a faint light flickering. Tell tale signs of an oil lamp within.
Looking closely through the thicket, Serak can make out an opening in the cliff face. A tunnel leads somewhere inside, lit every 15 feet or so by a small oil lamp. A short distance up the tunnel it curves slightly, obscuring Seraks sight from penetrating any further.
Zyltris rubs Carp's head, "You little scamp! Look what you did to your mother. Just like I was growing up." He then introduces the group. "Hello, I am Zyltris and this is Beetle, Brots and Syna. We have word that there may have been some trouble with your boy and the Redbrands. Based on his enthusiasm I imagine he can be quite the handful."
