The monster looks confused, as much as a mind of its eccentricity can be confused.
"Banners? No no banners. Maybe banners? No none. Unless it wants banners? HAHA It will says what it wants for the treats! No no, no banners, only Mable the dragon! HAHA YEEHAA"
"You earlier you spoke of treasures, what treasures do they give you?" Beetle asks looking a around a bit more now, curious what this creature would consider treasures.
The beast glances around, blinks his hypnotizing green eye and stares deep into Beetles soul
"SHH, SHH.... ITS SECRET! but it will tell the murderer! It has humble tastes. A few pennies, a dead squizzly or two and a magic drinky. Mable has said too much now! Nothing especially valuable to these its. Not worth looking for no no no , too dangerous with all the nasties about!"
"Would you show us your treasure? May we look at it?" Beetle asks pulling some shiny coins...(3 copper, 3 silver, and 1 gold), "I have some shiny's myself"

Taking a moment to think it through the creature takes a step backwards and finishes its ration.
"It has more than these coins. Thinks its smart. Perhaps it seeks to steal the treasures! No, no lookings for it, murderer of innocents. Can't be trusted this one, not like Muriel. All the treats! ALL OF THEM! HAHA"

Brots steps up and takes out his 9 gold. "Mr. Dragon" Brots says quietly. "If you show us your treasure, I'll trade it for mine." Brots tries to strike a deal. Persuasion/Deception: 1
Snarling slightly the creature turns and stares at Brots. Its small mouth tightens into somewhat of a smile again
"It thinks it is a mr dragon? Oh my HAHA what foolishness. No no dragons here, none but my friend Muriel. It seeks treasure too? Hmm... NO NO NO trading of treasures here. But maybe perhaps... yes, yes if its giving me all of its treasures it can pass safely and it won't get eaten by the dragon. That would be a good deal yes Brots? And for little squizzly Iris too yes? Would take this deal, very generous. Muriel would be pleased yes, would have the moon shining in again yes!"
Serak: Sensing the situation could be about to turn south, Serak says, "If the Redbrands are not the dragons you speak of, than who is the dragon? Who is Muriel? I'm afraid we can't part with our treasure. We will need it to pay for the food we'll have delivered to you. You can't eat treasure and you can't hope to spend it. Perhaps a trade for food?"

Reaching out to take Brots' gold from him, the beast is halted by Seraks words.
"BUT the treasure! If its has no treasure it shall despair.... and this is pleasing! Muriel is here, all around. All around and upside down! The dragon too! Can't it see! Can't it see the beautiful dragon here? So beautiful. Such beauty is queen dragon. It is a good dragon it is! HAHA Treasure not for spending! Treasure is for treasuring for always! And hunting for treats is not needing treasures. Let it take this ones treasure. It will show you its own treasure then!"
The creature reaches weakly out to take the gold coins from Brots', hoping that it's not a cheap trick of some kind
Serak: Eager to be out this creature's presence before it invades his mind, Serak says, "Go. While you show my friends your treasure I will begin my hunt. Likely a squirrel or rabbit this close to town - as a sign of good faith and more to come!"

Quickly realizing there is likely no game at all this close to town, Serak sprints back to the farm. He slaughters a chicken and flicks yet another gold piece at the halfling boy with a knowing wink.
Suspecting his friends have been bewitched, he makes haste back to the cave. He attempts to enter unseen, taking special care to stay out of the creature's line of sight.
Stealth:7
Shouting into the cave from behind cover, he says, "I have your meat, but you must first release my friends from whatever hold you have over their minds. That is not how friends behave toward each other. If you want more meat, you and the dragons must play nice."

Serak sneaks away. Quickly snatching the gold out of Brots' hand the beast slithers off, on all fours, and begins sliding down the crevasse sides.

Beetle, Brots, Syna and Zyltris:
"Yes yes hunter gets the treatsies, and it gets the shinies! HOOHOO. Its stays here, wont be long! Release the dragons, keep the water in the trees yes yes! Will bring back treasures for the murderer and its friends! Alma and Maccius will be pleased! yes yes"
Sliding away down the embankment the beast disappears from view. The sound of scraping stones and the tell tale sound of a creaking hinge emerges from the crevasse. The green eye quickly rises again from the depths, pointed teeth still in a sly type of smile. All the while the voice spinning around their minds.
"Yes yes.... treasures a plenty for it to see yes. It looks! But doesn't touch the shiny!"
An outstretched arm holds a single malachite gem in its clawed hand - a mixture of bright green and flickering orange from the nearby lamp light.

"This all the treasures. Most important treasure yes. Given by wizzy it was yes yes. Halia too yes. Poor Maccius. You gave into the demon didn't you murderer? Oh how much fun we would have in the trees! HOOHOO."
Shortly after Serak stumbles clumsily through the tunnel. In his hand a badly slaughtered chicken, half of its chest hangs open, a wing severed.
9
"Ah! It has returned with the treats! YAY! Now it is all friendly! Friendly friendly happy its! Come out and play with the treats! Yes yes play play Where is its going now then? It will let its pass, way past muriel and the dragons! HAHA YES it holds up its bargains"
The sinister, somewhat of a smile sticks firmly on the beasts tiny mouth. Its glowing green eye pulsates, darkens and contracts slightly, suddenly becoming less engrossing. A claw grabs out at the chicken in Seraks hand as Beetle, Brots, Syna and Zyltris regain themselves.
OOC: Just saw your edit Serak! I'm getting too much into character here, slowly starting to think like this guy
Beetle turns to Serak,"Nice offering my friend." Then turns back to the creature, "Do you know which path leads us to the Red cloaks the fastest, I was thinking of going that way." Beetle points to the Northwest passage.
Salivating at the prospect of a meal, the monster answers quickly.
"Redcloakies all over this place! Comings and goings never stopping to say howdy with it. Yes yes quite busy with cloaks. Up that way, always busy. Glasstaff wizzy that way, cloakies too, but no dragons! No muriels that way no no . Dont forget the lil mousies! Squeak squeak HEHE! But yes plenty of murderings that way for it. Poor Maccius, sniff sniff HAHA."
[OOC: Would everyone be cool if I stab this thing in the eye to try to blind it as a surprise action? I can use my Inspiration. Serak did say "the rest of its life." lol It invaded his mind, so all bets are off as far as he is concerned.
If everyone is cool with that...
His rapier ready under his cloak, Serak hands the creature the chicken and stabs quickly at the it's eye, in an attempt to blind it.

[OOC: Best I could fine for targeting a body part is giving it some degree of cover. If you disallow targeting body parts, I'll still stab the thing if we agree we want to kill this thing and take its treasure.]
Edit: I give up. Every time I have advantage I roll crap.
OOC: ok, I'm kinda curious about it's treasure anyhow don't really see a way we are getting it without killing it, also I don't really think it has control over us, I don't think it's mind control I think this is just how it communicates, and it steals your thoughts to use against you, at least that is my take on it.
OOC: Actually, I don't think I'd get a surprise action and I don't think I can target his eye. It is 5am here and I just got off work after overtime and I am tired. lol The more I read there are no rules set rules for targeting a body part anyway. That was really the whole point, but now that I rolled it I feel like it is too late.
I kinda got the vibe you guys wanted to kill it. I honestly thought it was controlling you or something, the way you were all giving it stuff. lol Thought Brownbeard might be private messaging you or something.

OOC: it's fine we can roll with it, I was ready to fight it at first but then it seemed it would give us whatever and let us pass w/out a fight for food...but like I said we can roll with whatever at this point...
OOC: Would I really do that? Good to know that you're thinking on that wave length! I like a bit of distrust here and there
The rules don't really cover what you're trying, but doesn't mean you can't fudge it. I'd probably would usually give you an advantage. But seeing as the nothic is capable of reading minds it may/may not know what you're about to do - it can only get one fact about you each time it succeeds so the likelihood of it seeing your next action is quite low - especially because you've held it off up until the last attempt.
I'll let you continue if you want to follow this course of action. You would probably have advantage, but as you're targeting a specific part I'd either give the nothic some form of cover, or a dexterity save? Whichever you want to do really, up to you guys
The nothic can only take thoughts out of your head and talk to you telepathically. It's eye is distracting at best but its more captivating than actually controlling you.
