In the meantime, who is where when the door is opened, and what will be your marching order when you enter (and move through inner spaces)? And is anyone giving a ranged weapon to Ireena?
The lot of you stand outside the main door, which stands on the left as you face the house. An iron gate swings out as a sort of outer door, then a small foyer, then an inner door. Have a look and make sure I've set the scene correctly, and I'll open the main door soon.
Oil lamps hang in the small entryway. The doors, which Kif is now opening, are a pair of large oaken double doors. They open without resistance, revealing a foyer.
Hanging on the south wall of the foyer - to your right, as you enter - is a shield emblazoned with a coat-of-arms (a stylized golden windmill on a red field), flanked by framed portraits of stony-faced aristocrats. Mahogany-framed double doors leading from the foyer to the room beyond are set with panes of stained glass. At the moment, you hear nothing from further within. The foyer is windowless, though an oil lamp burns in a wall fixture on your left, as you enter the room. You note, however, that in a windowless, lightless room, Fope and Ireena will not be able to see, without some kind of illumination.
This is a nice house, for sure, compared to everything else you've seen since you entered Barovia.
Please array yourselves within the foyer, should you choose to enter.
Children, wait outside here. Scream if anything should approach you. We will have your parents out and the monster killed in a jiff.
Barnaby moves up and stands outside of and to the side of the exterior door. He peaks into the foyer scanning around with his detect magic for any arcane tomfoolery.
There is a combination of transmutation and illusion magic. You would imagine that it takes more than stained glass windows to protect a structure like this in the Svalich Wood.
Just to be clear, the "foyer" in which you should be placing yourselves is the room in which I have placed Ireena. I imagine Barnaby, among others, will be encouraging her to stay back. She is now wielding the crossbow, and her rapier is sheathed.
As the last of you (Barnaby) enters the foyer, you hear the unmistakable sound of small critter claws, or paws, trying to gain traction on a hardwood floor. The sound is coming from the other side of the heavy wooden doors. There is a bit of light flowing in through the stained glass, so you would guess that there are windows into the room beyond, or maybe a light source within it, but you cannot make out any detail.
Ok. I might try playing with some new Roll20 toys. Or new to me, anyway. So bear with me. I'll try to set it up right for everybody.

Puddin gives her crossbow to Ireena.
Puddin will not hang back like Barnaby but would like to behind Kif, as well as Fope (if he chooses to enter).
Right. We cross-posted. Ireena will carry the crossbow, and she explains that she knows how to use it.
I'll lead the way into the house
Yeah Kif! Our trusty meat shield rises to the occasion once more!

Barnaby makes sure to let everyone know that he approves of Puddin's plans. Yup, yup, this is how I would do it.
looks good to me

The children are standing at the front windows, watching you with hopeful gleams in their eyes.

Can I do an arcana check on what might have the whole place aglow with magic?

You're not sensing anything different from what you were already picking up, Barnaby.
Puddin moves forward into foyer next to Ireena. Ireena, please don't move too much further ahead than Kif, especially in this darkness.
She moves up to the coat of arms and portraits and attempts to figure out if she has any knowledge of the family enshrined on the wall.
History: 11
After loosening his sword in its sheath, Føpé holds his staff out in front of him as he walks to protect against spider webs.
best part of this foyer is nothing has tried to kill us yet, ready for the next room?
10 perception check for the general room
11 investigation for the door I'm about to open
