Also, please let me know if you are searching a room, or looking for something in particular.
And an "investigation" check doesn't mean anything, if you aren't investigating for something in particular. Listening for noises, or looking for irregularities, calls for a Perception check. Looking for a thing for a purpose, like trying to figure out which key on the key ring might be the best one to try first, would call for an Investigation check.
As I understand it an investigation check on a door would be looking for locks, traps etc, which is my intention. Perception is just looking about to see what I can see
Yes, that was right. I don't think posts go up immediately. For some reason I missed this.
You are quite certain that this is not the coat of arms of any major (or minor) nobility you've ever encountered before. And you've seen a *lot* of coats of arms.
If no light is coming in from windows, Føpé will light his candle. On the Soft Plains, we live in tents. Not a lot of room for a monster to hide in a tent.
It doesn't seem like he'll be able to hold the candle and fight at the same time (assuming he's not caught under a web, or something). Is there anyone in the party who can? Perhaps a spell caster or crossbow wielder?
I will hold your candle for you Fope. I need only one hand to work my spells. I will also begin studies of how to bestow you with the power to see in the dark. I’m sure that I can do it.
Thank you. Føpé says, exaggerating the movement of his lips to be sure Barnaby can understand, without raising his voice and risk waking sleeping monsters.
The heavy wooden doors swing open to reveal a wide main hall, running the width of the house. A black marble fireplace sits at one end, on your left, and a sweeping, red marble staircase at the other. Mounted on the wall above the fireplace is a longsword with a windmill cameo worked into the hilt. The wood-paneled walls are ornately sculpted with images of vines, flowers, nymphs, and satyrs. The decorative paneling follows the staircase as it circles upward to the second floor.
A few chairs and small tables are set around the edges of the large room, and you hear a scuffling sound from one of those chairs, in the far right corner of the room near the stairs.
This room is, in fact, quite dark, though there are a couple of lamps in wall sconces, unlit, on the walls.
Barnaby, I've taken the liberty of creating (what I think is) a functioning candle. I've put it on your space, because you're carrying it. Others should be able to carry it as well.
Bold: *whispers* Well, what a show this room is! Not my taste, to be sure - marble is so cold and unforgiving. There is something moving in this space - Barnaby do you think you could send Tulip out to investigate? Perhaps if it be only a rodent, she could swing upstairs?
Feel free to move yourselves within the room, if you want. And if you're doing something in the room, such as looking at (or for) something, let me know.
Føpé speaks as loudly as he dares, not knowing if this is the monster the children are scared of, or if there's more.
Føpé will also take out his flute, and some bits of grain from his rations. If not, I've worked quite a bit with animals. If you guys are open to it, I'd like to try to lure it out the front door.

Blue: is this right?

That's probably wise. The sun is getting low, and who knows how many of these rooms are illuminated from within.

Sorry for the delay here, fellas. I should open the door for you later tonight.
Føpé will go back to sharpening his dull knife while he waits for the door to open.
Here you go:

Føpé will light the lamps.
With the lamps lit, you can all see that there's a gray, furry creature under a chair near the stairs.
Feel free to move yourselves within the room, if you want. And if you're doing something in the room, such as looking at (or for) something, let me know.

Barnaby is still looking around with his detect magic on. He will also study the windmill cameo to see if it means anything to him...
History: 18
And see if he can recognize the furry beast...
Nature: 6
Barnaby, don't you specialize in rodents?
