Accompanying Barnaby, Føpé will ask the headmistress Honored Matron, we have slain the demon that haunted this place and Milivoj awoke. He went back to sleep after that, but I think he's on the mend now. Our search for the sacred bones now leads us elsewhere. But Milivoj mentioned the missing boys, and as we are heroes quested with doing such great things as recovering missing boys, we wondered what you could tell us about that.
So we haven't talked to Felix about his time in the demon's control, (did I find anything in his room?)
Milo didn't mention being under demon control, but the fact that he seems to have turned around once we killed the demon suggests he was under control and wasn't aware of it? Maybe the demon was making kids disappear when Milo thought he was sleeping
Wolf hunters sounds ominous, we know there are wolves and worse in these parts, where are these hunters, what are they up to. I'd bet there are wolves that walk like men about
Visiting Henrik should be our next stop, then possibly back to church or the inn before night fall...we spent almost no time in the inn and there seemed to be some interesting types there...
Or maybe we take the car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
I wouldn’t begrudge a return to the Inn and a drink. I’m also not sure these happenings aren’t all connected. In this orphanage there has been a strange convergence of hidden infernal markings on bed frames, celestially enchanted lockets tethering shadow creatures to this plane, possessed children, diseased children, fenestrated children, and now missing children. A trip to the coffin maker may bring us one step closer to the stolen remains, but children seem to have distinctly poor fortune in this Town, and yet a central role to play in the incessant festivals.
I don't remember if Barnaby got an answer from the headmistress about a place in town where I could buy a diamond of significant value. Please let me know.
If I could just get such a gem, that and a night's rest would let me identify the finer properties of this locket as well as any other curiosities that we run across. Other than that, I agree that a serious questioning of Henrik is in store, but perhaps it would be wise to go to the inn to see what information can be gathered about grave diggers, wolf hunters, and the like. It would also give us a chance to have a well deserved short rest.Barnaby looks from one man's wounds to the next's as he speaks this last thought.
OK, so back to the inn wouldn't be bad, Kif says, realizing his teammates are injured.
It might be best confronting the coffin maker in the morning, There must be some reason why he wanted the bones taken from the church. The padre felt that without the bones the church was unprotected (and Ireena and Revenge the pooch are still there). Is Henrik working with nefarious forces? Are those forces wolf-men types that the wolf hunters are presumably hunting or are there other forces like the demon we just bested or like the Baron himself? Is the shadow dude an opportunistic thing that just exploited the situation and is just a red herring to our main work here? Where are the missing kids? No matter what it's best to do that investigation in daylight, providing everyone survives the night.
You return to the inn for your intended rest, and the barkeep catches you as you make your way to the stairs.
Oy, you! A man came by and left this for you four. He hands you an envelope. You turn it over and see a a large wax blob covering the seal, and the blob bears an elaborate seal, involving some sort of tall wading bird and a metal helmet. crowning the top of it. It doesn't mean anything to you.
Upon opening the envelope, you discover a brief letter inside:
Greetings Kif, Fope, Lucento, and Barnaby.
I will wait upon you this evening at 7:00, at Wachter House, with the hope that you will join me for your evening meal.
Føpé sighs at the misspelling of his name. Why did I have to get caught in a demon ensorceled hell where they can't speak or spell properly?
Føpé asks the innkeeper about a bath.
Resting in the warm water, Føpé takes a moment to enjoy the wooden bowl in his mess kit as a toy boat.
After scrubbing himself and Revenge, he changes into his clean shirt and undies, then washes and mends the spent clothing. Properly groomed, and having missed lunch, he’s feeling much better and ready for a good meal. Maybe I'll try to make a new crook after all. With a some luck, we could break this curse, and I'll be back to shepherding in no time.
He lets is wet clothing dry, after wringing it out, by hanging from the back of his pack.
Very nice. Roll a Stealth check to see if you could get Revenge past the watchful eyes of the tavernkeeper & his friends. Remember, he is not welcome indoors, outside of the tavern floor.
Kif is going to help Føpé sneaking the pup in, perhaps by doing a giant fake fall as we come through the door...axes evewhere! so he should get advantage on that roll?
Very nice. Everybody enjoys a short rest, and Revenge is now scrubbed clean.
Kif engages the tavernkeeper and a couple of people near the bar in a lengthy discussion of town geography. He mixes in stories of the layouts of various towns and strongholds of the Sword Coast, and uses sweeping arm gestures.
By the end of the exchange, Fope has crept upstairs, Kif knows where the coffin maker and Wachter House both are, and everyone in the tavern would rather never in their lives hear another word about the layout of Kif's favorite strongholds and how inconvenient their bathrooms are.
...And as for Xantharl's Keep, you'll be crapping in the street before you can find a decent garderobe, I tell ya, which is pretty much the plan when you're under siege and the flux rps through the town
BTW: anyone know who the Wachters are, any relation to the burgermeister? Kif is uneasy that somehow the person who issued the invite knew who they were
Who's in the bar,doI see any interesting folks? 12 perception
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lucento also scans the occcupants of the room as he approaches the barkeep (perception 23) and tosses an appropriate amount of coin on bar, “One...well, two ale’s please, and another for any of my companions decent enough not to let me drink alone.”
Lucento leans in further toward the barkeep, “Do you often get letters dropped here for new arrivals?”
Well, my word, he says. A halfling! You are far from home, aren't you?
My name, young man, is Rictavio. A traveler, you are exactly right, and a teller of tales. It is my vocation and my avocation, you might say. Travel from place to place. Share the stories from Place A, so to speak, when I get to Place B. But maybe I'm all the way up to Place Z now, don't you think?
Rictavio, who you met earlier, is at the same table he was seated at before. There are two tables occupied by (apparently) local commoners, and another table is occupied by two large, brooding young men who look like adventurers.
The time is now about 2:30. I don't mean to signify anything by mentioning the time, other than that I know you are weighing all your options with what to do for the rest of the day.
Also, I assumed that you asked about "Wachter House" after you read the invitation. Which is why I slipped in the answer to that question that you hadn't yet asked.
There are two noble families in Vallaki. The burgomaster's family, which has been in Vallaki forever and a day, and the Wachters, who have also been here forever and a day. The head of the Wachters is Lady Wachter. As for whether new people get letters, I don't mind saying that new people are so rare that I don't know how often they get letters. When they're here.

Before you move on, maybe you all (or some of you) will share a few words about your impression of what's going on.
Barnaby will let the headmistress know how Milo came about the money and what it was for and then let her decide how to handle it.

I wonder if the demon scared the other boys away, or ate them.

Further thoughts, and maybe input from Barnaby, about where to go next? It looks like there is not (yet) a consensus.
Sorry, I've been travelling for work.

I’ll take you back to the inn when I get a chance. You will find an unexpected invitation waiting for you there!
The party finds itself with many choices, here in Vallaki.
Meanwhile, I have company from out of town this weekend, and you all will have to be patient. With my apologies.
Places to visit here:
Hendriks the coffin maker: paid to have sacred bones stolen
The Inn: might be some other folks of interest there
the church; might like to see us if we have bones
the vishani encampment outside of town; might have info on missing kids or whatever else is going on
the bosses' house; might be worth a visit if we have anything good
