Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage

"I'm going to open this door," says Laniel.

Carefully, he swings the door open to reveal an empty, 10'x10' closet.

"Well," he says, "I guess we'll head south."

Morph reaches out his hand and tries to grab one of the floating candles.

Morph takes a candle and it seems to fall into his hand as if gaining weight. The first drop of melted wax runs down the side of the candle.

"Oh, it looks like the magic comes from the sconce. No ever burning candles for us then."

Ethan places the candle back onto the sconce and then turns to start heading down the south passage.

With his detect magic still active and holding his rod high, infused with light, Ethan walks ahead a little way.

Perception check: 10

Titus takes a quick look at the empty closet with Laniel, he shakes his head and proceeds south with his companions. He watches curiously as Morph fiddles with the candles, and keeps his shield ready as they walk further into the passageway.

“This place is massive... finding a good pathway to paint the magical line will be more difficult than I had thought...”

Morph looks at Titus, walking beside him,

"Yeah, that's why I stopped painting the line and just kept drawing the map."

"We've already sort of come around in a circle, back that way."

Morph indicates the way they came from, with a tilt of his head.

"Who knows where we will end up."

 "Hey Morph," Rethan says as his friend's form flickers fleetingly to that of a stranger before returning back to normal. "Your multiple personalities are showing again."

Heading down the passage, the team arrives at yet another intersection. They can continue south or turn east.

Morph turns to look at Rethan, and for a moment you see a young human with red hair and green eyes, and a strange mark riding up his neck.

A blink and its Morpheus Fable standing before you again.

"Oh sorry, did I let my face slip again?"

"Continue on or take the turn?"

"Might as well keep going straight," Rethan says.

Initiative:

Titus leads the way south. Right after the passage bends east, a gelatinous cube surprising the group!

Initiative:

Atuan may go, since he alone was not surprised, then the gelatinous cube. Everyone else is surprised this round. After it goes, everyone may go in any order, followed by the GC again.

Atuan regards the quiverring cube for a moment, a shouted warning caught in his throat as Titus walks right into danger. Stretching out his hand, instead, Atuan casts a guiding bolt, soaring over Titus's shoulder and impacting the Cube. Ripples of phosphorescent magic light the cube up (assuming I don't miss...) and grant advantage for the next attack roll.

Attack: 14 Damage: 8

Atuan's bolt strikes the cube, splashing magic through the nearly transparent blob.

It moves at Titus, undeterred.

Pseudopod Attack: 12 Damage: 5

And then it tries to engulf him by simply rolling over him. He attempts to dodge: DEX(12) check: 5

The attack misses, but Titus is too slow in recovering from his defense of it to get out of the cube's way. It swallows him into its transparent jelly body, causing 10 points of acid damage.

Titus:

 Everyone may go in any order.

Morph eye's go wide as Titus is drawn into the large gelatinous cube, that he only now notices, as it begins to glow with Atuan's magic.

Morph steps back behind his friends and remembering the bear, gives it an order to attack the creature.

Taking aim with his rod, Morph lets off twin beams of magic, trying to strike the creature, to either side of where Titus floats inside it.

The bear lumbers forward and attacks the creature, biting and swiping with its claws, growling with every action.

Morph Move: Move behind Rethan, Lanial and Atuan

Morph Bonus Action: Order the bear to attack the gelatinous cube

Morph Action: Cast Eldritch Blast at the gelatinous cube

Beam 1: Attack: 27 - Damage: 14 force damage. (with advantage from Atuan)

Beam 2: Attack: 8 - Damage: 7 force damage. 

Bear Move: Closes with the gelatinous cube

Bear Action: Multiattack

Bite Attack: Attack: 23 - Damage: 7 piercing damage.

Claw Attack: Attack: 15 - Damage: 11 slashing damage.

Every attack lands as the bear and Morph move in a coordinated assault on the giant blob.

Atuan, Rethan, Titus, and Laniel are all up.

Atuan, blade ever ready, goes in for a deep thrust. Already in mid motion, he considers how this may not have a great effect on the creature...

Attack: 24 Damage: 10 + sneak attack: 3

Titus lets out a garbled cry before he is abruptly cut off as he is engulfed in the cube. He is stunned with stinging pain as the gel washes over him, but after a moment he regains his sense and attempts to tear through the creature and escape.
