"Have 'plenty of gold'? You can never have to much gold."

"Think of all the good that can be done with it, at the very least it could be donated to various charities to help care for the poor or infirm."

"Or, you know, used to acquire more powerful equipment, to help us in our duties to protect Waterdeep."

"This isn't going to put us too much out of our way, and there could be more than just items of monetary value in that pile."

“Then let’s do it and be done with it already.” Saralyssa says with a shrug.

Titus grunts and grips his battle axe. “Very well. How do we want to kill it?” 

“I favor a direct approach. Not sure if any of you had any tricks up your sleeve?”

“Going in blasting is what I do...”  Saralyssa says with a shrug.  “Ready when you are...”

Morph considers for a moment and then pulls out a small rust coloured bag.

"Lets see what help I might be able to get today."

Morph reaches into the bag and pulls out a fuzzy object and throws is down.

The fuzzy object begins to transform as it hits the ground, turning into an Owl.

"Hmm, lets see if we can get something a little...bigger."

Morph tries again, reaching to the bag and pulling out another fuzzy object.

The second fuzzy object begins transforming, this time turning into...another Owl.

"Ok owls it is then."

Morph addresses the pair of owls,

"Right we are going to fight a chimera in the room down that hallway."

"When we get in their, wait for us to start the hostilities and then join in."

"I'm going to need you to be a nuisance and a distraction, ok? Do your best to inflicted as much harm as you can."

Morph pats his shoulders.

"You can ride on my shoulders if you like."

Morph turns to his friends,

"Right, shell we?"

Morph starts to head down the hallway, unless anyone stops him.

“Let us get this done then.” Saralyssa says, moving along in the same direction.  She casts mage armor as they move along.

Titus takes a position at the lead of the group. “If you stand by my sides I can use my shield to help blunt the attacks. Just need someone to help hold a formation at the front line.”

"You aren't talking to me, are you?" Saralyssa asks with a glance to Titus. "I am a wizard, not a fighter, I'll stay as far back behind you as I can manage, hoping that thing isn't able to get past you to attack me directly."

"He's talking to me," Rethan tells Saralyssa as he moves up next to Titus.

Laniel nervously follows the group down the hall. Fighting a creature such as this is not something he ever thought he had trained for. "I will no doubt be up in the front as well," he says.

As they enter the chamber, the chimera opens a single sleepy eye on its lion head but then two of the three heads open their eyes and lift off the pile of treasure, which appears to mostly be copper and silver in color. The lion head snaps at the goat head and it too lifts before the enormous creature stands and spreads its large dragon wings in a display of dominance. Fire spurts from the mouth of the dragon head but it does not move to attack.

"Okay," Laniel says, falling into his loose combat stance. "Are we really doing this?"

"Time to bring some light to this darkness."

Holding his black rod, inlaid with golden patterns and glyphs, Morph utters an arcane word and flicks the rod through a circular motion.

A 5ft diameter sphere of solid fire spring into existence in a space next to the Chimera.

With another flick of the rod, the sphere attempts to rams into the Chimera.

As the fight begins, the two Owls following their previous instruction, fly out to either side of the Chimera, getting ready to make flyby attacks next turn.

Saralyssa follows suit, staying back and raising a hand. A mote of fire races the length of the area, landing near the Chimera, then exploding into a massive ball of fire.

DC 14 Dex save for half, or take 24 fire damage. Saralyssa sculpts the spell so as not to harm her allies.

Okay, here we go. I will use theatre of the mind for this one, since it one foe, a pile of coins, and the room constrains everyone to be within 30 feet.

Inititiative:

The chimera leaps to its feet as everyone begins their attacks, lashing out at Rethan and Laniel with the lion and goat heads while the dragon head sprays a blast of flame, striking Saralyssa, Laniel, and Rethan fully in the blast. One owl and Titus are too far from the cone but Morph takes some of the heat as he ducks as low as possible and one of the owls is burned to ashes as it rolls to the side but still takes a blast of heat.

Saralyssa's fireball returns almost immediately, causing the beast to lunge to the side to try and avoid it as much as possible.

Likewise, Morph comes at the chimera with fire as well for the other side, causing further acrobatics to avoid a full blast of fire. 

Laniel, singed from the fire breath, plunges forward, striking quickly and furiously against the monstrosity.

Summary:

It dodges Saralyssa's fireball, taking half damage, but that exposes it to the flaming sphere for the full amount. Laniel strikes 4 times in a row (he will take the benefit of the help action, since he was the next melee attacker: 27.) The other owl dies before it can help. The fire breath attack severely wounds Saralyssa, Laniel, and Rethan and gives Morph a nasty singe to boot. Rethan also takes a horn to the gut, although Laniel avoids the creature's claws.

Morph stumbles back under the intense heat, franticly patting away at his clothes to put out any lingering flames.

The one remaining owl lets our a mournful hoot at the lose of its twin.

Saralyssa casts absorb elements to give herself resistance to fire.

Rethan also casts Absorb Elements as the fire washes over him, only to be unable to put up a shield to stop the horns that followed it.  Growling, he lashes back at the chimaera with his staff, loosing back some of the flames he absorbed.
