Ahh, I think I see where my confusion is comming from. I thought that there were two trees and rocks on each row, with each of the / and ^ on a row indicating an individual tree or rock, rather than the pair of each symbol indicating a single feature. Hence I thought that the four ^ that I moved behind amounted to a 10'x10' area of rock, which since I occupied the second furthest square from the edge of the map (O10) I had to be behind. But it's a single 5' wide rock that you have to be between the paired symbols (e.g. the vertical lines between O & P) to gain cover from.
So a five foot wide feature (e.g. rock) is indicated by paired symbols (e.g. ^ ^) not a single symbol (e.g. ^) as shown on the key.

Harden runs to stand next to Alienne's unconscious body, to prevent anyone from getting close and healing him. He then pulls his hand axe from his body and hurls it at Retour.

Ryshard tries to shake off the faintly echoing words from someone barely visible in the distance, but the mocking tone sticks in the back of the angry haf-orc's mind like a painful parasite, gnawing away at him despite his best efforts to shake it from his head. As the rain of magic and missiles peppers the ground and stone around him, an enchanted rock flies in to crack the side of the half-orcs broad skull. The besieged barbarian staggers to the right, before reaching into his belt to quaff his potion of healing as he kneels behind the large rock. The barbarian's final act is to roar to the heavens in rage and frustration, his veins now standing out around his bunched and taught muscles.
[OOC] Ryshard drinks his potion of healing: 9 as his action. Ryshard moves to P10 and crouches down for cover. Ryshard rages as a bonus action.
