Dog blinks, pauses, and then says, "Nev! You're looking... well. Seems like we just got here. It has been a very hard journey to get our little one back to you. The others are taking care of some errands -- horses, provisions, transportation. We have some new people to keep you two safe. I think you'll love them. I understand we're to get going soon?"
He purposely does not mention the warlock. How does Nev look from how she did, other than better? Does the amulet look the same? Seeing her now, is there something he didn't notice about her before that is obvious now?
Neventi looks a little blissful but otherwise no different than the past few times Dog saw her.
"Oh, great!" Neventi says. "I will go pack our things. I am very eager to get on the road."
With combat over, the rest of the part is now left to figure out the next step. Gash, Althus and Martin are in Axonia's suite. Bulwark and Tock are on the ground outside the inn.
Tock has no idea the combat is over and he's going to try to get to the nearest door that seems to lead up to the roof and then make his way up, move + dash + dash.
The building across the street is another inn, and a nice one at that. The night clerk sees Tock run through the foyer and down the hall.
"Grignak!" the clerk yells out behind Tock. A burly looking half-orc, who looks like he could be more like 3/4 orc, puts down his book and steps out of his alcove in front of Tock. He draws a mace in a menacing manner, which Tock perhaps did not know was possible.
"Can I help you?" Grignak says with perfect elocution.
Tock skids to a stop and says (in his normal voice), "There is an assassin on the roof of your inn, he just shot a crossbow bolt into the window across the street. I would love your help with getting to the roof and apprehending said assassin."
"Crasynti, call the watch," Grignak says. Then he looks down at Tock. "Okay, let's go have a look. Come with me."
Grignak leads Tock up a flight of stairs, emerging into the halway on the second floor. "Bexus," he calls out. A Large shaven human head pokes out of an alcove. "Sentry the floors. I'm going to the roof." Bexus nods and stands up, walking down the hall away from Tock and Grignak.
The pair go up another flight of stairs and Grignak calls out again. "Wyrchuk," he says, and a dwarven head pokes out from another alcove. "Come on, we are going to the roof."
Wyrchuk nods and follows Grignak and Tock as they ascend to the roof on a final set of staircases. Pushing up through a trap door, Grignak is the first to see the dead assassin. He walks over and assesses the damage.
"Right through the eye socket," he says.
"Mmhmm," Wyrchuk says.
"What's an assassin with no weapons?" Grignak says to Tock. In the distance, the whistles of the city watch trill.
Tock is somewhat confused, "To be honest, I have no idea. I was in the room across," and he points to the broken window "and a bolt flew through, saw a figure standing here. I took a shot at him and dropped down the side of the building. That was a few seconds before I ran into you."
"I mean I'm glad he's no longer a threat, but it indeed is odd."
He takes a look around, "Could have been more than one and the other or others cleaned him out once he got taken out?"
(he will take things slowly this time, explain what he can to whomever is asking, saying that he was visiting the the guests across the street with a friend (Gash) if asked. If it all resolves in a reasonable manner then he'll make his way back across the road and if nobody is there then to Nev)
Tock looks across in through the broken window and sees Gash, Althus, and Martin standing in there, talking among themselves. They, of course, look up and can see him in return.
Gash casts Grease in a corner of the room, "Don't step there." to recharge his Benign Transposition to teleport next to Tock. "Sorry, sirs. I hope I didn't alarm you. This is my friend here. My friends up there were attacked. This assassin is responsible for several deaths, including a man named Ritter. We can give you the address of his home with a list of hits. Thankfully, we were to stop him from crossing the last name off his list. Regretfully, it came with his demise. We had intended to turn him over to the authorities. However, we did not pull any punches. These were his affects." Gash produces the bag with the assassin's things. "We were going to keep these... and use them in honor of those lost to this creep. Again, sorry for the mess. I will gladly pay for the damage done. And any cleanup you require."

Grignak holds up his hands. "Whoa, buddy. I'm just here to ensure the safety of our guests. I don't need the bard's tale of it. Tell it to the watch when they get here. Wyrchuk, I'll send the watch up. You let them onto the roof."
Wyrchuk nods and heads back down the trap door.
"Stay outta the inn for now," Grignak says, and follows the dwarf down the hatch.
Dog hears the whistles, and assumes something went wrong, hopefully for people he doesn't like. He considers going to check it out and leave Genny with Nev. He's trying to remember if the watch would have his description, or just the description of the woman he disguised himself to look like at Axonia's inn. "Nev, do you want to put her to bed while you pack? It's getting late, and I should go check on the travel preparations. More horse buying! Did you have any horses here that might be for sale? And we'll try to leave in the morning? Do you have a specific route you want to follow? And can I get you and the lass anything specific for the road apart from the usual? I'm so glad to see you again. And I know you're glad to be with me and all my questions. It all comes from a good place."
If she's fine taking Genny, and doesn't have much more to offer in conversation, he'll see them safely in their room, and duck out of the inn, into an alley to cast disguise self to look like a tall, gangly red-haired youth with spindly arms and a very bright, circus-like jerkin. He grabs three stones and begins juggling in a basic pattern anyone familiar with the circus would recognize, humming a melody that the circus performers have heard three thousand times. He sets off in the direction of the whistles.
"Nev, do you want to put her to bed while you pack? It's getting late, and I should go check on the travel preparations. More horse buying!"
"That seems like a good idea. Bring her upstairs."
"Did you have any horses here that might be for sale?"
"No, I've asked," Neventi says with a frown.
"And we'll try to leave in the morning?"
"I'm happy to leave as soon as you are back with the horses. By the way, what happened to the old horses?"
"Do you have a specific route you want to follow? And can I get you and the lass anything specific for the road apart from the usual? I'm so glad to see you again. And I know you're glad to be with me and all my questions. It all comes from a good place."
"Uh, no, I hadn't thought that far. West, I guess. Maybe we need a map too? Don't we have one?" Neventi says, smiling at his final comments. "Hurry back with those horses."
By the time Dog gets outside, having followed Neventi upstairs, put Gentoa into a bed, shushed her back to sleep, asked a bunch of questions, and walked down the stairs again, the whistles have stopped. He heads off towards the western edge of the market district, which is roughly where the whistles were coming from.
Back at Axonia's inn, or more precisely, their competition across the street, the city watch arrive, pushing past Bulwark to enter the inn. They will probably arrive on the roof in 3-5 minutes.
Tock says, "Gash, I feel like we should play this cleanly. We want to leave the city in the morning and while we could disguise ourselves, we would be getting Axonia and Viviora into a lot of trouble if we just disappear from here."
Saying that though, he takes a look around the perimeter of the roof about ways to get off it, just in case.
"Actually, can you ask them," pointing towards the window across the street, "what we should do?"
Dog in his new form goes west for a stroll, and even if he can't find where the whistles were, he'll go chat with Ol' Whistle about horses, in case the man's bored late at night.
