Inside is a shriveled and aged leaf attached to a small twig with an equally old berry, along with a tuft of soft fur. Inside, there is a carved design of intricate knot work
Lyle holds out the statue at arm’s length. “Nick! This thing is amazing! I’m pretty certain it’s got magic.” And he shows off how he’s healed and his clothes are like new.
Lyle- still holding the statue at full extension. . “I’m not sure I like the idea of having a goddess who’s quite so... uh... well, full of divine retribution and watching me.”
Janey will wake as everybody else starts moving about, and eat one of the rations for breakfast. She will ask Nicholas: "Did you find anything interesting in those books?"
"Well this is welcome change of circumstance!" The half-elf springs to his feet a new person, no aches and pains, no throbbing headache, and with clean, repaired clothes to boot.
With everyone pottering around with their morning rituals and muttering to each other, Denethir addresses the day's work. "Keestake, are we to journey directly to this manor, or is there anything further we can do to prepare for what is ahead of us?"
"Thank you" Janey says, retrieving the books from Nicholas. She continues to keep an eye on Nicholas after the transaction, unable to pinpoint why she doesn't quite believe his casual assertions that he found nothing interesting in the pages. She quickly peruses both books a second and returns the handwritten one to her bag. She studies the contents of the other book more carefully while she waits for the others to prepare to leave.
OCC: Lyle & I had a discussion, as there was some confusion of which statue :) The statue you found in the ship is not of the goddess..
Lusith
You find it very odd that someone would hide these things, but given the Goddess' obvious ties to nature, maybe they meant something to the owner or to the Goddess herself. Aren't there some forest priests that carry around twigs and leaves?
Lyle
Putting the two halves together, the pieces adhere to each other like magic. There is something captivating about the statue, and you find it hard to take your eyes or hands away from it.

Why did he study so long if there was nothing, you think to yourself.

"We should be able to see Hisself's manor from here once we are outside. It's only a little way down hill. Gett'n in without the Orcs and Goblins seeing us will be difficult, but there's a small ditch which leads to the south side. Ya see, the manor is a big "H". The north side was all official, offices, kitchens and things like that. That's where the entrance to the catacombs may be. The other side, where Himself and the His Lady slept, with us servants. That's where my room be, and the ditch comes close to the corner. We could get right in through one of the windows. Between was Himself's office and his collection. Himself had many treasures from his years of adventuring before settlin' down here. The pirates ran off with most of 'em, but they didn't recognize all of 'em. Nor would I. But one of 'em that he gave the queen was this little stick o' wood that would throb in your hand when it was near the Sea King's funny treasures. I never bothered with it, these 60 years. Not my place to be meddhn' with the treasures of the family. Nor yours either, if it weren't lifeand-death. I'll show you where it is, if you want." Keestake hands you a large leaf, which he has drawn on using a stick from the fire (See Campaign page).
As you study it, you realize it is really two sections. Realizing this you go back and begin to try reading again... the last line suddenly makes sense, "Direct your focus and release the darts with your trigger word" It's a Spell! Looking back through the book, you realize there are actually 2 spells: Magic Missile & Sleep
"This is a spell book!" Janey exclaims to the group, wondering if Nicholas was already aware of this. "Has anyone else discovered any other powerful items that could help us get through today alive?"
"Not I, the most beneficial thing I found was a comfortable place to sleep. Comfortable being relative of course." The half-elf takes the leaf from Keestake and examines it closely, a smile crossing his face. "Well your handwriting leaves a lot to be desired, but considering the circumstances and equipment used, you've done a grand job. Would anyone else care to examine our map?"
Lusith will hear Janey's exclaimation and lean back in the front door, "I found this torc, I assume its connected to the Goddess of this place, it may have magic if someone knows how to use it. I don't though."
Melisana, awake and refreshed, considers Lusith's remark, "In the Moonshaes, further south, torcs are usually the sign of nobility or their druid priests. They aren't used very much in these isles."
Nicholas studies the map for a bit, then impatiently looks around to see if the others are ready to get moving. “The storm is letting up, just like the lady said. Let’s get going. Through the ditch like the old man says I guess?”

"Right..." she says to Nicholas, narrowing her eyes. "Could I have them back then?"
Nicholas shrugs casually and hands the books back to Janey. “Wish they had been more useful...”

Janey focuses her attention on the more carefully crafted and written of the two books (the second option).
Lusith carefully replaces the items inside the torc and seals it back up before moving outside to take a look around in the daylight.
