"I don't believe we have any reason to withhold any information about the farm house and what conclusion we've come to about what happened there. As for the cave, if Joshua gave his word I don't intend to make him a liar so I'll go along with not mentioning the others but a danger so close to town should be known to everyone. Might save people from traveling out into the woods too far into that direction. Could cost someone their life not knowing.... we don't need to lose anymore of our townfolk..."
"Tell about cave, don't mention kids earlier" Talon would say finishing his mead. "We ready? I'm Ready" He would say with a chirp as he begins to stand up from his spot at the table. "Joshua can talk for us if he wants" he would chirp back over his shoulder as he starts to head out.
The Mayor's house is one of the biggest and richest of town. Jim still is a very jovial and carefree man who year after years keeps the well being of his people at the forefrontof all of his dealings.
The group is welcomed by an old dwarven woman, Gloria Stoneglow, who takes care of the household. She is one of the few dwarves here and seems to be bound to Jim in some way.
" Come my young heroes, " she says kindly " The Mayor is waiting for you in the gran' room."
The room is well furnished and the table has been set for at least 10 people. In the back the lady you saw this morning is taking to the mayor. He stops upon seeing you and crosses the room to shake your hands.
" Let me introduce Lady Clemence from Waterdeep, " he has a big smile on his face, and the lady nods her head at each of you as he introduce you to her.
"Come let's eat," he moves toward the table and invite you to sit, " Tell us what transpired in your words. Though a somber day I need to know everything that happened."
Dan Greylock enters the room with Jonathan Erikson both have put on their finest cloths but they are wearing their weapons.
"Yes", Dan says, " please tell us." He seems genially concerned and interested in what you have to say. After all the safety of the town is his business.
The lady seems bored by all this, but hides it well, and it strikes you as odd to have her here. This is not the way she or the mayor would have wanted it.
Hoyle is not very comfortable in situations like these, but the prospect of food perks him up. He will poor (or ask for) a stein of ale and then wait for Joshua to begin our story. Does the mayor seem or act different in any way, from what I have known about him before? He will also keep an eye on the woman and try to sense her intentions.
((I will roll an insight check in case you want me to))
Joshua will start by talking to Dan. "First off, Mr Greylock, during the festival we went into the woods for a bit, to get away from the crowds and we came across a cave. It had a warning skull outside of a k... a kobold I think it was called. (he looks around at his friends for confirmation). We would have let you know sooner but then the bonfire was lit and it didn't seem like a good time." Joshua will then adress everyone. "After that we were about to head home when Ms Dreab came and asked us to check on Mr Nogor's farm as she was concerned after they hadn't picked up a shipment and missed the festival. We went straight there and heard growling as we approached, and crying from the shed. There was a large beast trying to get into the shed and another in the house. They were almost dog like but they didn't look natural. In the house was... was... the dead bodies of Mr and Mrs Nogor and some farmhands. But we managed to save the children. They spoke of some strange man who came and Mr Nogor made them run while holding the man off. They were too shocked to tell us much else."
After recounting this, Joshua will look down at his plate and start picking at his food, not really having a full appetite any more. These were the first dead bodies he has seen and he blames himself for not being there sooner.
When Joshua gets to the part in the story where he talks about the dog creatures, Talon will mimic the sounds of the creatures and make swiping motions with his hands.
Tait will remain silent but watch to discern the reactions of the mayor, Lady Clemence, Dan Greylock, and Jonathan Erikson while Joshua tells them all what transpired.
Klaus also sits quietly though intently listening to the conversation and giving agreeing nods on certain parts of the story. Not really touching his food much either for the intensity in the room and the meeting itself has his mind completely focused on what everyone's reactions will be to all the news and possibly what might come after that.
Joshua feels that the woman, Lady Clemence is more interested than she lets on.
The mayor and the men, Dan and Jonathan are oblivious to this. For them she seems to be a prize or an opportunity.
Dan looks at you all, one after the other.
"I know that you'll want to go look into that cave but please don't. This is adult business." The reassuring tone feels lot like condescendence to your ears, especially after the night you have had. "My boy will not go near it after the "TALK" we had."
Jim laughs embarrassed and tries to change the subject.
"Excuse me, sir. Before you speak to Lady Clemence about her next destination, shouldn't we discuss the situation with the Nogor farm? A mysterious man shows up tries to force his way into their home, and strange beasts kill the entire family except for two of the children. Should we not discuss what to do about this?"
(Tait keeps his tone respectful, and is trying to persuade them to speak about this rather than where the Lady intends to travel.)
All the eyes turn toward Tait. His friends proudly the adults surprised at being addressed in such a manner and Lady Clémence even smiles. For the first time you réalisé that she is about your age and that she doesn't want to be here.
Jonathan is the first one to get his bearing and let's out a huge laugh.
"Sorry kid, we forget that you had first hand in that. Father Bryon and James' father are on the tracks. We should have told you about that and I for one am sorry for my thoughtlesness." he stands and bows to Tait.
"So we are supposed to just go back to what we have always done? Thanks, go tend the farms and let the adults handle everything...bah!", says Hoyle as he pushes back from the table, while not missing the opportunity to grab a morsel. He looks at his friends and says, "see you at the Twin Dove, if you want to talk all the latest in plows and hoes", and he heads out and to the Twin Dove.
Joshua will look to the adults, taking in both what Hoyle said and noticing Lady Clemence's age. "After what we did today I think we have proven that we are maybe more suited to this. I mean, Ms Dreab was ignored by the adults when she voiced her concerns and if we had decided to 'let the adults handle it' there would have been two more deaths. We have more up our sleeves than appearances, we don't all require muscle and a sword to fight, as I will be the first to say that in a sword fight I would provably lose. But we have our skills. I say, we should ask Lady Clemence. (turning to her) Would you think that a 'kid' like us would be capable of helping here?"
The lady blushes as all the attention turns toward her.
"I think you have shown yourselves, man and able. I for one would be happy to have you watching my back."
There is a small cough has she finishes and you see Oliver come in.
Oliver, the mayor's son, is a weak and sick kid of 10 who dabbles in magic. Some say that he has the blood of dragons from his mother's side. No one knows who she was.
"Dad, I want to go with the lady when she returns to Waterdeep. It is time for me to get serious about magic." He says this and brings forth a small flame from his hands. "Cecilia says that she tough me all she can."
He turns toward you all and smiles a huge grin. "Go see her when you have time."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Talon Insight! 8
When Talon hears that his father is already following the tracks, the Kenku's eyes would go wide as he places his head in his hands. "Not safe..." he would mutter in father Bryon's voice as he is immediately filled with worry. Talon would be so worried about his father that he pays little attention to what is said after that...
Klaus actually quite entertained by the whole ordeal sat quietly through the talks trying hard not to laugh at some points. Once the party seemed over he would stand "Thank you for the invite mayor, you obviously know where to find us when you decide we can be of more help than you think. Lady Clemence, it was a pleasure to meet such a woman of importance." and Klaus gives her a nod of goodbye and goes to exit the house and go meet up with Hoyle.

Tait Insight 19
As the party breaks up, Tait will say to Lady Clemence, "It was very nice to meet you," and smiles at her before turning to the others.
"We should go get Hoyle at the Twin Doves and go see Cecilia, don't you think?"

The argument between father and son seems to be an old one.
Tait glimpse at Oliver hiding a grin and winking at Lady Clemence. All this seems to have been set up to free you from the clutches of the "adults".
Klaus actually quite entertained by the whole ordeal sat quietly through the talks trying hard not to laugh at some points.
