"Next time we find a fountain how about we tie Chatra down in it and then let Meepo read the words," Arxius mutters bitterly, wiping small flecks of blood from her nose. Having stayed silent watching over Rees during their rest, she looks at the younger woman and raises an eyebrow to check she's alright.
"With our luck more rats," she says as she moves away from the door, drawing her bow. "I'm ready for whatever comes."
How big is the fountain? Can it provide any cover for a ranged attacker?
The fountain takes up a 10'x20' area. The base is only a few feet tall (maybe knee height) and it is not very deep. Chatra and Grom could probably hide inside of it and it would provide half cover. The dragon statue with the spout is more decorative than it anything and wouldn't provide much cover.
We can try. Last time we knew there was one rat in the room. We don't know what's in there.
{It really depends on how Fenris wants to rule whether or not the attacks are a Surprise when the door opens and whether the ranged attackers can see whatever it is when the door opens. Remember if you ready an action, it becomes your reaction you are committed to it until the trigger happens you are also giving up movement and bonus actions unless you take them before declaring the ready action. We also knew the rat was easy to kill. This is much more of a borderline case IMHO}
You guys made A LOT of noise outside this room (looking at you Meepo and Chatra)... chances are whatever is inside.. knows your outside the room...

Chatra puts his thumb to his nose and pulls it up, while sticking his middle finger up and his tongue out at you in a crude gesture.
If we're going to try it, then I'm on the south side of the door, back far enough to make full use of the Glaive's reach. Talien, you've got the north side. You open the door on my signal. The rest of you get ready, at range.

Rees flashes a half smile toward Arxius followed by a small nod to let her know she's alright and then backs up into the corner away from both the fountain and the door, readying an arrow.
{Question - what's the light situation like in here now? Without darkvision, can Rees see anything at the moment?}

Torm's eyes, people! Let it go! We're about to fight against unknown enemies.
You got a problem with each other, save it until we're back in the ****in' town. You can''t do that, leave now before we open this door.

Meepo patters over to Arxius readying his sling for when the door opens, "Arxius hate Meepo now? Meepo sorry friends gots hurt by mean old fountain."

It's pretty dark in here unless someone fixes that those without darkvision please remember to roll at disadvantage.
As quickly as people are in position, Alten nods at Talien to open the door. Alten readies his attack (at his Glaive's reach distance) to be triggered on an enemy coming out of the room that is NOT hit by one of his allies.
Before we get this party going, Rees will light her hooded lantern and if there's a good place to hang it on the fountain she will, otherwise she'll just set it on the rim and at least get a LITTLE light in here since she can't see a darn thing. Then she'll move back to her position in the corner.

Arxius' initiative: 12
She's going to be down on one knee at the other side of the room in a straight path to the door, with her bow drawn ready to shoot the first thing she sees.
"It was a mistake, Meepo," she tells the Kobold quietly. "A friend who cannot forgive a mistake is not a friend worth having. I understand it's exciting for you, but next time we should discuss it before we dive into the magic, agreed?"

You hang your lantern from the spout jutting out of the dragons mouth it casts bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet (which covers the fountain area, western door, and will light up the inside of the room when the door opens as well).
Bright light lets most creatures see normally. Even gloomy days provide bright light, as do torches, lanterns, fires, and other sources of illumination within a specific radius.
Dim light, also called shadows, creates a lightly obscured area. An area of dim light is usually a boundary between a source of bright light, such as a torch, and surrounding darkness. The soft light of twilight and dawn also counts as dim light. A particularly brilliant full moon might bathe the land in dim light.

Grom will glance over to Rees and snap his fingers and ungrim apears on his shoulder he whispers to the hawk and casts light on the glowing stick and will instruct him to follow Rees until she tells him other wise.
Nvm she has it covered
Grom will fall back into the fountain and take half over and see what happens

The room quickly goes silent as you wait in anticipation for Talien to open the western door. Alten stands 10 feet to the south of the door hugging the wall glaive ready to strike at any enemy that makes it through the door unscathed. Chatra maintains concentration on his spell next to Grom, both taking cover in the fountain (+2 AC for half cover). Arxius and Meepo back themselves up to the eastern wall in line with the door. Arxius knocks an arrow, while Meepo readies his sling. Rees backs into the northeastern corner behind the fountain, but has a shot at the door from an angle.
3...2...1... Talien throws open the door...
As soon as the door opens a small mountain of rats fall through the opening. The silence is broken as dozens of tiny hairy bodies churn and scatter into the dry fountain room chattering angrily. The sight is almost humorous as the rats begin to glow violet as they pass through Chatra's faerie fire. But, the comedy is cut short as a bolt flies through the open door towards Arxius and Meepo (Attack: 7 Damage: 4).
