The pits 10 feet deep. Make an investigation check please.
No hammer here! Scattered across the bottom of the sarcophagus are 220 sp, 50 g, two silver rings (15 gp each), and a silver amulet (15 gp). You don't spot anything on the corpse either from your vantage point...
Talien ties a rope around the coffin, removes all of his gear and items except 2 daggers and a second rope. He ties the other end of the rope to himself at a length so he can't fall into the spikes and climbs down to the elf. (Roll a skill check if needed)
If Talien makes it to the elf he will tie another rope to the dogs limbs and torso. Tie that end to his rope and climb back up out of the pit and pull the body out to search it.

Just trying to save back and forth here.
On the corpse you find an ornate ceremonial dagger (worth 125 gp). Unsurprisingly, no hammer...
Talien straps on his gear again and adds the dagger into his pack. (He will carry anything the others do not from the tomb)
I will now mark my search for the hammer complete Alten. Let's return to the village. I will see about making something new. Perhaps a shield....or a baby.
"Maybe we'll get back and find the blacksmith has found his hammer. Maybe he just misplaced it," Rees says, shrugging slightly as she divvies out the coin. For now (unless someone objects) she'll give the jewelry to Grom to identify. If it's not magical (and no one objects) she'll take it back and put it on until they decide what to do with it. Because, again, magpie like shiny thing.

I'll save you guys some time here... Grom finds that none of these items are magical.
Shake plays a sour note before singing a rousing, and not entirely appropriate song for the trip back to town:
Ease on down, ease on down the road Come on, ease on down Ease on down the road Don't you carry nothing That might be a load Come on, ease on down Ease on down the road
Come on, ease on down, ease on down the road Come on, ease on down, ease on down the road Don't you carry nothing That might be a load Come on, ease on down, ease on down, down the road
Pick your left foot up When your right foot's down Come on legs keep movin' Don't you lose no ground You just keep on keepin' On the road that you choose Don't you give up walkin' Cause you gave up shoes, no
Ease on down, ease on down the road Come on, ease on down Ease on down the road Don't you carry nothing That might be a load Come on, ease on down Ease on down the road
Cause there maybe times When you think you lost your mind And the steps you're takin' Leave you three, four steps behind But the road you're walking Might be long sometimes You just keep on steppin' And you'll just be fine, yeah
Ease on down, ease on down the road Come on, ease on down Ease on down the road Don't you carry nothing That might be a load Come on, ease on down Ease on down the road
Well there maybe times When you wish you wasn't born And you wake one morning Just to find your courage's gone But just know that feeling Only last a little while You stick with us And we'll show you how to smile, yeah
Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down Get 'em up, get 'em up ease on down
Tired and exhausted from the last few days you retrace your steps back to the entrance of the citadel to find the wooden door missing. Upon further examination it looks like something ran through it... its knocked clear off its hinges and now stands still at the bottom of the pit that was in front of the front door. You skirt the pit and begin the descent up the long switchback stairs and make it to the top to find the midday sun beaming high in the sky...
It's about a 3-4 hour walk back to town which will bring us to early evening... someone please make a survival check on the way (with advantage as I am assuming someone will be aiding you)...

Anything interesting in the room now that we've got a skewered elf?

Shake watches as Talien climbs down into the pit and suddenly pulls out his pipes, blows something resembling a note and starts belting in Dwarfish:
Descent...
Designed thoughts and intellect
Forgotten and displaced
The crux of my dismay
I am nothing
I feel nothing
Nothing
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
Weighted down and sinking fast
Life did not offer me
More than false destiny
I am nothing
I feel nothing
Nothing
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
I feel nothing
I am nothing
I feel nothing
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing...
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
Until I reach my end?
How deep I descend?
How deep I descend?
How deep I descend?

We've completed the map, right? Time to leave this place?
