Approach with a smile and try to use Alten's natural charm (that I don't necessarily posses in real life LOL).
Pardon me. but can you tell me what happened here?
The two stop conversing and look you over haughtily, before one of the men replies "Why wouldn't you guess... this merchant here has been robbed and by a dwarf non the less! They should keep to the undercity if they know what's good for them - not come here and cause trouble like they always do! Bah!"
You take the time to look over the pair of men and consider. One is tall and lanky, while the other is short and portly. Both wear suits of some fancy fabric and chains made of gold.

That’s awful. You said “like they always do”? I was under the impression that this was a welcoming, peaceful city where the dwarves of the undercity lived a harmonious existence with their neighbors here.

Shake quickly turns his shirt inside out, scruffs up his hair, and rubs some dirt from the ground in his face around, changing his appearance enough to present a bit of disguise without looking like anything unnatural/shape-changing occurred. Then he goes up to a couple of on lookers who he does not recognize as having been in the audience during his previous performance. "'Ello mates," He says in a cartoonishly unidentifiable accent, "What be going on here? I be hearing talk of something stolen, and by a wee dwarf nonetheless? Never heard of no dwarf who ever stole something without rightfully believing it to be fair trade. At least fair trade in their mind. What be the item that be being stolen?"
"The dwarves here make entirely too much profit while we on the surface have to give give give to their every demand in trade! Not everyone here feels like this situation is entirely fair! My friend and I here are simply not making enough profit, our margins are just too high!"

A woman replies, "Not sure, but heard it was vauble! Must be ta make all this fuss!"
Shake makes a pondering noise. "That be being something. It be being a real conundrum. Has anybody be hearing a description of the person who be thieving?"
Grom will just move thru the crowd towards the route to the Undercity
Leaving the others behind? Are you trying to blend in or don't care?
Yes trying to blend in and not be seen... Taking steps to put my Spell book back inside my coat, & the quill will go away for now.. nothing like trying to blend in with a floating book behind you lol

You slip past the crowd seemingly unnoticed by the guards or shopkeeper..
Realizing that the group is moving on, especially the greyed dwarf Grom, Shake shakes his head in consternation. "Well, I do be hoping that they do be finding the culprit whoever he or she or they may be. And I hope they be teaching them a solid lesson, whoever they may be being." With that he will walk away from the crowd quickly, but with an air of nonchalance.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Perception check to notice if Grom is taking off or if Alten is engrossed in talking to these folks (I'm setting the DC at 10 to see if he noticed Grom leaving)

Thank you for your time folks. Looks like my colleague is leaving. I better catch up with him.
Alten takes his leave and follows after Grom. He looks back over his shoulder for Rees and Arxius and calls out as loudly as he needs to in order for them to hear him (cause he doesn't know what's going on).
Better get a move on ladies. Grom's in a hurry for some reason. Don't want to get left behind.

Talien will follow Alten and flank him. Not trying to be imposing but naturally failing that due to his size and because he is an oddity.

Before they resurfaced, Rees would have changed back to her normal form.

Why should dwarves have to stay in the under city? Is that their home? Are they not allowed to come here? Talien asks the men.
