Imani considers. "You know what? Yes. Take your pick, Dream. Just hands off Oz and Amani- the girl seems nice enough, and if we're being real, I don't think you stand a chance against her servant." She thinks for a moment. "And remember that nerd (Matthias?) and his bruiser did us a solid. Half of one, anyway. Just aim your umbrellas at the genuinely bad guys."

She stares at Assassin, hard. "You have a goal here, same as me. If you think this is a gamble you can win, I won't stand in your way."

Sarai looks at Imani with an appraising look in her inhuman eye. “Look who lost her religion.”

Assassin sleepily raises a lid, “So...” She yawns and counts on her hand, “I can’t touch the master of Saber, Lancer, or Caster, Berserker is dead, and last we saw, Archer’s master is a pile of ash. Guess that leaves Rider...” She flickers out of existence, “Master... you make my job much too difficult...”

<Will she need any help?> Caster telepathically asks Oz.

 Time for the DM to pilot Imani for a bit! How does this keep happening...

Imani rubs the back of her neck, “I... I don’t know. The last time we faced Rider, remember how he managed to hold his own against Saber? At least for a little. If Assassin ends up actually fighting him, I’m not sure on her chances. I believe in Assassin, but if you have ideas, I’m all ears.”

"There's the old Imani," Sarai teases. "If Caster is going, he should take me with him, drop me a quarter mile from the fight." She gives her guns the once over. "I can observe from a distance."

"Yeah, Caster take Sarai but just observe for now. No need to get involved if we don't have to, but if it looks like Dream's life is in danger step in.''

Imani rubs the bridge of her nose, “Alright. Only problem is we don’t even know where the Whistle of Nara, or Mary I guess, even is!”

Imani flops onto the grass hill, thinking, “What did Monkey say back at the mansion? Something about teaching Lancer a lesson for stealing his class? Maybe that might be a clue. Unless servants have a skill like Assassin’s Independent Action, then they probably won’t operate far from their master, right?”

Imani props herself up on her elbows. Addressing Virgil, she says, "I think it's time that you spilled the beans, toad. Your boss is the combined intellect of all of human civilization. Surely you have something to add here?"

Virgil looks extremely reluctant to share anything. However, there is a hint of wanting to tell you something. He looks all around, trying not to make eye contact with you. He looks like he’s about to say something, then bites his lip. He sighs, “Kiddo... I really didn’t want to bring this up... but...” He clenches his little froggie fists, “I... I just couldn’t find the right moment. Or maybe... maybe I wanted to leave you with a good memory when I was gone. Someone you were proud of... but... I didn’t know you would make a deal with it. It’s why I never told you...” He looks up to meet your gaze, “Kiddo. It’s me.”

Imani freezes. She looks away from Virgil's gaze, then rises to a sit, crossing her legs. "Choose your next words very carefully, toad. If this is your idea of a joke I will turn you into talcum powder."

Virgil squats down, “A lot to process, I understand. So... what do you want to know?”

Imani narrows her eyes, then suddenly stands. "What do I want to know? Gee, where do I start? Why did I bury you last month when you're standing right here? Why did I wake up one morning and start meeting water fountains that are literal dragons? " She makes a fist and purple energy pops and crackles around it. "How do I get out of this without dying?"

Virgil waves his arms, “Woah, woah, woahwoahwoah! Hold on a minute, kiddo. I am dead. Mostly. Yes, I was a mage. Specifically, I specialized in the manipulation of the soul. My clock was counting down, I knew that. So, naturally, I did two things.” He raises a little finger, “One, I put a fragment of my soul inside a small stone statue,” He gestures to his body, “And two, I transferred our family’s magical crest into you. So far, no one in our family has managed to end our deal with Ayala. Wait, water fountain?” He shakes his head, “Never mind, back to the matter.”

"Well, that's just perfect. You're a toadcrux." She sits back down on the grass and begins beheading wildflowers. "No surprise there regarding manipulation. You had that down pat with mom and me. And Ayala must be The Living City, or whatever it is those genius loci kept calling the crazy shining shape I saw under Hyde Park? How does any of this help me survive, da-" She shakes her head, stopping herself. "Virgil?"

Virgil hangs his head at that remark, yet can say no rebuttal.

He sighs, “I was planning to take part in the Holy Grail war, but my time ran out. The grail must have picked you because you were closest to me. But... I’m not the same man I was in life. I can’t do anything. But you, you have the sum total of our family’s entire magical knowledge engraved in you. Admittedly, I thought it would be a bit more effecti-“

Virgil‘s eyes go wide, “Something went wrong... It must’ve.”

Sarai just stares at the family “reunion” with her weird, unblinking eyes. Her trigger finger twitches.

"I'm sure you have all kinds of theories, Virg, but save them for now. You said that your clock was counting down, and that your time ran out. I'm guessing your little metaphor is more literal than it sounds, right? Did someone place some kind of curse on you? Was it someone within Clocktower, like that Avmarie bastard?" She peers at Virgil's stone face, looking for any sign that the truth to his response may be bound against his will. 

(This time, she *does* touch a finger to her crucifix for Guidance)
