The drows entire focus was on Gwen and Rose, when suddenly Winnie the Pooh attacked. Both attacks land with incredible force, and the elf curses loudly. So that's how it is, huh?! he gets himself into a ready-stance, similar to that of a monk. However just after Winnie backed up, preparing to take another attack, as the Drow yet-still-lived, a brilliant flash of light courses like a beam of raw sunlight courses past the group, expertly avoiding hitting anyone except the drow and the bugbear, whom had thus far remained silent, in rumination.
As the beam cuts through both targets viciously, both barely manage to survive, the drow falling to his knees, while the bugbear, barely managing to stand, breathing heavily. Not even a moment later, two forms rush out from the nearby forest, as twin panthers rush the still standing targets. AUGHGhghgh! MY EYES! Vhalak screams as he's blinded by the light. The bugbear is similarly effected.
Each panther choosing a different target, aiming to finish them both off. The drow feels it just as one panther pounces on him, slashing his face, before quite literally tearing out his throat. The drow barely able to make out a gurgle, before its body melts into its true form.. another doppelganger.
The bugbear flailing around wildly but weakly, manages to avoid being hit but the panther readies itself to strike again. Despite being blind, the bugbear manages to get a very solid hit in, nearly killing the creature in that singular blow.
The beam of light, having vanished, a brilliant light is still visible from its origin, a man, wearing many many pelts, and covered in vines, and feathers, wearing bracers made of tree bark. He looked old, and wise, but also currently filled with a tempered fury. Enemies of the forest, tell me, why doth thou entreateth with Drow and their ilk? And yon destructive creatures of vile spawns. What oppression dost thou seek to bring upon mine forest, and why hast thee absconded with what is rightfully mine?
Rose had mixed feelings of relief and anger as help seemed to arrive whatever or whoever had come to aid them had also attacked the bugbear whom she couldn't help but feel sorry for. When the Drow fell and his true nature revealed Rose rushed up to the bugbear to heal him and turned her weapon to the panther as she stared at the new commer, now more than aware this person was not an ally. And just who in the nine hells are you then!? The false drow was an enemy but the bugbear is not. You call off the cat if you care for its life or yours! Rose's patience was starting to wear thin, between undead, orcs, drow and now whoever this was getting this damned map for Gundren had cost more than she had bargained for, and it seemed when one enemy fell another one just showed up out of no where. And we have nothing of yours, we don't even know who you are! We were trying to leave and the circumstances required a temporary truck with the Drow, a truce that would have been ending here and now without your intervention.

The man looks at Rose pragmatically. Raising his hand in her direction. Mine name you seek? I am called Appa. The high-druid of the Sun Circle. Looking closer, he would have the appearance of a human, though features were off, such as his skin looking, harder, like the bark on a tree, and his eyes gave off the aura of someone who's seen several lifetimes. And before me appeareth one whom breeds of falsehoods. Another whom with him have lain waste to the creatures of mine forest, from the fortifications of the cragmaw, hither and yon unto here. he says, pointing at the bugbear. It is not in our purview to dole death untoward, lest ilk such as theirs seek to gain power for vile measures.
Among these desecrators, are thineselves, and a thief. One who hath stolen mine staff. One who hath been hunted, since we discovered the trespass. Return what is mine, or you shall be judged along with them.
Rose isn't sure, but she thinks she can see the panther smiling, unconcerned about her threat. Gwen draws her rapier, but isn't sure if the group intends to fight, or not. A stolen staff? We've done no such thing!
Cirrus puts it together fairly quickly. The group has only encountered three staves total, and only one of them seemed to match the aesthetic of this clearly powerful spell caster (if he's "on a whole other level" compared to the guy who gave him twice his normal vitality, then he is certainly no joke). Cirrus feels like perhaps the right thing to do is ask Malman to return what was taken, but if Malman loses his spell focus, how will they survive the journey back?
"Perhaps there is some way we can come to an agreement? You may do what you wish with the bugbear, I agree with you wholeheartedly that they are dangerous beasts to all life around them. As for the matter of this stolen staff, I'm going to assume you are not referring to that black staff with the spider on it," He points at the staff we took from the spider's body, "If you are, we would be more than happy to hand it over to you right away."
Insight to see if he can tell that the brown bear with us is Malman transformed: 22
If he knows it's him (If the insight doesn't reveal anything one way or another, I'll go with this option):
Cirrus steps forth, entreating the Arch-Druid, "I will not pretend to understand the full context of the situation. But I have not met anyone more worthy of wielding a powerful artifact of the natural world than Malman Mosshammer. In my time traveling with him, his empathy for friends, family, and even the tiniest creatures that scamper about in this great big, beautiful world we share. His use of the magic within the staff has been notably sparing, which I can only assume is to respectfully honor the majesty of its original owner. The times he has used it, it has been purely for the benefit of his family and his allies. Selfless! That's the word I would use to describe Malman. A selfless man who cares for the creatures of the woods. Like Yue over there." He says, referring to the wolf in the group. "Yue is not one to trust strange two-legged folk such as I, or my companions here," pointing to Rose, Gwen, and Burgee. "Except, of course, for Malman. She has never become so attached to someone so quickly. If you ask me, I would say that is because she senses the good in his heart, and the pure and true connection he has to nature. It is for these reasons that I ask you for forgive Malman of these transgressions. If not, perhaps I can still make you an offer so you may yet spare us. "
"Would you be willing to trade one staff for another?" Cirrus bows and presents the staff of healing. "This staff is imbued with the most potent healing magics I have ever witnessed. If you will spare our humble group of 5, I will gladly give this to you."
"If you're looking for the dwarf, he's somewhere deep in the cavern, he split off from us while we were trying to escape this wretched place. You'll have to hurry along if you want to track him down quickly."
You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
Burgee lines up beside Rose. Though he had little love lost for the Bugbear, he knew the heart of Rose. And with her word given to protect, he would stand beside her to the end. "This creature, undeserving as it may be, has lost it's family this day and has entered into treaty with us." His stature stiffens. "Our word was given that it would have safe passage out of this danger." He looked at the Bugbear and wondered why it mattered but looked back toward the mage. "This creature passes."
Burgee listened to Cirrus as he tried to deal with the mage. He looked around and then offer's his staff as well. "Though it sounds lesser than the one you seek, I can offer this which will protect you and your allies." He reaches in his pocket to rub the length of driftwood that he saved. "It was passed along by someone with far more wisdom and though it has proved itself useful, a stronger hand may make it great."

Malman only just recently blinks away the stars out of his eyes, as the past minute or so he'd been pawing at his face since the light show and lightly bemoaning his in the background. As a result, the druid turned brownbear spends the first few moments of seeing clearly blinking owlishly at everything, and trying to make sense of it all. Some of which never does even thinking back to what parts of the conversation had actually reached his ears, and not be drowned out by mentally echoed complaints.
Once he did, he fell back on his haunches, giving the druid a speculative look. If during that time Cirrus had stepped forth to speechify the druid on his behalf, it's the partway point in which things clicks and he's giving the blue man a questioning look, followed by him crossing his big, bear arms and canting his head at the man. Then he looks to Burgee and watches he too offered a staff. Although one look at between the gesture and the elder druid...
... hard for him to tell beyond general anger that could've been at the whole situation. But either way, all this talk of stolen staffs and the druid's certainty had him looking more closely at his companions, noting their various clothing and gear before his eyes finally settled on Burgee and Cirrus. At that point, but with some reluctance yet, he reverted back into dwarf sitting in the snow and still yet staring dryly at the two. "Know both mean well. But, might be wise to return what's stolen. I know if teacher not lend mines, he'd tan my hide." He nods sagely at that. "Sure none pick up one extra recently? 'cause Paavu not have one. That another one on you, Burgee?" He asked, gesturing at neither driftwood or staff of defense, but just behind the Kenku.
OOC: I believe below is correct unless someone recalls something differently.
Seeing that the Mage is not interested in the staff the he's offered, his thoughts drift back to what seems a lifetime ago. "Well, I have seen another staff, but it is not carried by me." His recollection of the slaughter and the blood trail send shivers down his back. "We did run across such an item, but unfortunately it was stolen from us by a group of ogres. After consuming our mounts as a meal on top of the theft. The location is not known to any here."

The Arch-druids eyes grow heavy as he looks at the kenku. A frown forms on his maw as he ponders the kenku's words, but see's no deception. He calmly claps his hands together, and after a brief moment, much like Malman had moments ago, both panthers bodies contort magically, though not much changes in overall characteristics as their bodies are replaced by two female Tabaxi, both dual-wielding sickles. And both only a head and a half taller than Rose herself. They are Inti, and Sasha. Both wore armor fashioned of hides that barely covered their forms. Only truly protecting the most vital of organs, while allowing maximum mobility, their bodies otherwise exposed, revealing their leapoardine physiques. Both looked young and impetuous, perhaps newer druids to the circle, or just cocky due to being presently in service to their Arch-Druid.
Neither of the felines bowed, and both still looked ready to fight, though their attention was primarily on the bugbear. Finally, Appa said These women are... what is thine word in thine tongue to understand... Apprentices. Thou claimest to not possess it on your person, though your scents were powerful at the site of its abscondance. I sense no falsehood in your personage. So I will incline to trust. However, you claimeth it were burgled by yet more abominations to nature. So hither unto me a bargain. In trade for thine honor, for thine theivery, for you hath admitted it was, in suth thineselves, who were in possession of it before t'was burgled from thee. If you posesseth a task that remains unfinished here, we shall assist, for we sense darkness beyond that will be expunged sooner or later, now that its existence hath become known. After which, thou wilt be honor bound to accompany mineself until what is mine, hath been returned. Hath we reached Parlay?
Burgee's eye cocked as the mage engaged, but as he left the object on the sled, and further, it was his lack of action that allowed the thieves to kill their animals and steel the possessions. If he'd only listened to Paavu, the object would be with them here and now. Along with many of his other belongings. Least of all food. "That burden is mine alone. The staff, if it is the one you seek, was in my possession last and clearly I did not give it the care it deserved." He approached the druid carefully and looked him in the eye. "I know you not however, so while I will grant you my fault, and would gladly grant you my service, first I would ask that you open yourself up to us so that we know you are true. What sends you here and why do you seek the object?" Burgee listens carefully but glances at Rose hoping that she can glean truth from any words or actions about to come.
Burgee would rather Help Rose attempt to find truthfulness, but just in case he tries discern the druids nature. (Insight: 4)

(me attempting to translate, just for my own benefit, out of character: He says that he could smell us at the scene of the crime (odd that he says "scents" plural, he definitely doesn't mean mine. But it seems odd to me that he's accusing more than one of us of the crime. Unless he actually isn't talking about Malman's staff of the woodlands, as I had assumed), he believes that we're telling the truth about not having what he's looking for. He proposes a trade: (He gives us: aid in a task we are doing) (We give him: Our assistance in helping him find what was taken from him.))
Cirrus is a little perplexed that the staff the druid is asking for is apparently not the one Malman has, and a little sheepish that he was so quick to throw Malman under the bus when Malman is apparently one of the reasons Appa is trusting them. Which works out since he was having a tough time giving up his own staff. "A very generous offer,[In Primordial:"One Blessed by Nature"], there is a chance, slim as it may be, that I might have a lead on the staff. And if it's not, it may be a place where abominations of nature are running amok. If you want to go there and fix that, you can say so and perhaps we can go there." While Burgee is speaking to Appa, Cirrus takes the opportunity to use his sending stone to contact Halia while the others are distracted, slowly walking away from everyone as the messages get more personal:
Town Okay?
Were Orcs accompanied by Ogres with magic staff?
[Cirrus is away from the druid and cats]
Tell Gundren: Got map. Cave infested with monsters. You have allies help kill?
[Cirrus is away from the party]
...
Stella okay?
Cirrus waits to hear a response, but hears nothing. He then walks back towards the group as Appa finishes explaining the significance of the staff and nature and stuff. He addresses the rest of the party, "Okay everyone, got an update on Phandalin: Best case scenario, Halia was too busy fending off the Orc invaders to answer my message. Worst case scenario, Halia is dead and everyone in Phandalin is either dead or imprisoned. I think we should probably go there and make sure the people there are alright, least of all our employer. Perhaps Gundren has some allies who can help us fight these creatures alongside Appa? Strength in numbers, after all." He turns to Appa, "Appa, I am a student of the arcane arts. I have read many books detailing the different magics of the world, and my specialization is arcane means of travel. I have read that practitioners of the Old Faith, such as yourself, have means of quickly traveling from one place to another, if you have the means of taking us to the town of Phandalin, we would be appreciative. I understand that you are eager to wipe out the abominations lurking within this cave, but there are innocent lives being lost as we speak (probably)."

Your translation is more or less correct. However going into detail about the first sentence or two would effectively be telling you what is on his mind. But yes, he is basically offering to help you now, if you will bind yourselves to help him recover what was stolen immediately after.

The arch-druid's eyes remain on Burgee as the bird responds. The lead-druids face turns to a frown at the admittance. And the other two druids looked at him with concern, but kept themselves in place, not wanting to overstep their bounds, and they seemed to be relaxing slowly as tensions fell, atleast on their masters side. His eyes following the kenku and even wrapping his arms in a crossed position as he looked down on the slightly shorter creature, though not down on him. It is good that you possesseth a sense of duty. Honor is rare these days amongst the city-born. I am also possesed of a desire to trust in thee and thine, for amongst you is another of my kindred practitioners. he says, pointing with his face at Malman. As for why I desire the object? Druids possess little. For we need little more than nature provideth.
However, in this case, that is thee very staff passed down from generation to generation, betwixt one to another. Only passing when one falls in battle to the next. Equivalency, it is to a king, a crown, to use words that might hold import to thineselves. It wasn't long into the druids near-ramblings, that Cirrus spoke out, but began muttering into a rock, as far as the druid could tell.
Grunting as he watched the display, barely able to hear what the genasi was saying. After several very long moments, Cirrus is answered with un-nattural silence. Not that the stone was responding, but that there simply was no answer at all forthcoming. The druid waited what he felt was a fair amount of time, before regarding Cirrus sternly Indeed, 'tis a more than fair trade. As nature giveth, we in turn returneth. Such is the balance of nature maintained, and I possesseth knowledge that folk not born of or within nature always desire accouterments such as parlay..
Burgee, though not certain, senses truth in the druids words. "I'm surprised that the weave did not give me more of a feel for such an object, but apologize for its mishandling. You shall have what help I may give in its retrieval. My friends here have other business that is quite important to us all so must be allowed to continue along their path. But I will accompany you for as long as it may take to right what I have wronged." He looks around at the others and continues, "You say you caught our scent. Might you be able to call upon such skill to track the foul beasts that took our properties?" He waved his hand at his companions. "Though yours may be irreplaceable, that theft lightened our load more than a little. Not to mention the slaughter of our innocent animals. And for that act of cruelty alone, I would seek payment in kind from those wretched ogres."

Malman is content to listen and let others do most of the talking, as it is something he never felt comfortable with doing anyhow. Cirrus talk about returning gets a small frown at first, as it would mean days of travel and being far too late to do anything. But after the request of Appa to perhaps 'forge' a way with magic, the dwarf's demeanor softened before he looked to the aged druid for confirmation. Although there appeared to be some confusion after or mishearing of words, it is not until after Burgee speaks his piece that he pipes up again.
"With Spider -- Drow -- and most minions taken care of, the clearing of the mine not quite so pressing." He holds up finger. "But, that is assuming Teacher Appa here possess the means this day to quicken our return to Phandalin. If not, it will take us days to return." He grimaced. "We could perhaps also use brief respite at least to recover our strength. Though if teacher Appa possess means, time is of essence. And this way, in good faith, we may yet recover both our things and his if attackers are same as thieves before returning here to deal with a hopefully more relaxed guardians. For the mines are going nowhere, and we possess map." Malman takes a breath and rubs at his chest with a somewhat uncomfortable look in his eyes. "So what say you? Even if late, if possess means of tracking the hostiles, the trail should be far fresher back by Phandalin. The guardians -- monsters of the mine can wait a few days more yet."

Goyo - [Tortle]Druid/Warlock - Circle of Sea/Celestial (Libretalia)
Vogan - [Goliath-Hill]Bard - ???(A Dungeon-Delving Campaign Group C)
Rose had no idea what the old man was saying as she didn't speak whatever language he was trying to speak it seemed but everyone else apparently did. Rose just looked to Burgee and the others and said I have no idea what staff he is talking about or what he's asking but whatever we are doing for him we need to do it quick. Orcs are attacking Phandallin and we don't have time to waste here.
Initially, the Arch-Druid did not respond to Cirrus comments, as Burgee began to speak. Addressing him first as he finally uncrossed his arms. Arcane is not what granteth it prowess. Is likely why you did not notice. It is a gift of the earth herself. At this point the other two druids have sheathed their weapons, speaking almost in synch Are these ones truly going to meddle in the affairs of men? Should we not just handle this ourselves? Kill the abominations, and abandon these ones to their tasks? You two still have much to learn. There is not a creature who doth not serveth nature. For every predator there is a prey. It is our duty only to snip the branches off a tree when that tree hath stangled its brethren of moisture. It too, took me, a child of humankind, a lifetime to learn this lesson. I hopeth only that thee and thine learn it more swiftly than I.
And yes, Kenku, I do possess such power. However, without my staff, the ritual will take some time. I must commune with nature and ask her for her bounty. However, if you will not allow us to kill that creature that hath slain my brethren, then remove him from my sight, swiftly. The bugbear understood it clearly enough, to know that if it wished to not die here, it would have to move now. Though it hesitated long enough to give Rose and Burgee though moreso the former, an appreciative nod before attempting to leave, and unless stopped, he would run north.
However Kenku, I wouldst not split thee from thine. We shall accomplish these tasks together, and as your council seems to be of one mind to attend to mine staff first, then we shall do so. the druid hadn't reacted to Cirrus words in primordial, likely due to not knowing the language or atleast not the words that were said. Not that Cirrus would know the history between the primordials and the druids.
Unless otherwise pressed, the arch-druid, along with the other two formed a triangular-circle of hands. Taking seats and chanting in some likely unknown tongue, to all except Malman. As the chanting continued unlike most powers, instead of an oppressive or impressive suffusion of power, instead it filled the air with beautiful scents, and the plantlife near them seemed to grow, ever so slightly, blooming out of season if it were such a being. Until eventually a soft, green-amber hue suffused all three of the druids.
Phandalin was the destination. We shall be there within the hour. he said, the other two druids seeming as if entranced, one holding his left hand, while the other held her sisters hand. As his hand met with one of the nearby trees, the tree seemed to warp and wend momentarily. A serious expression crossed his features as he spoke one last time. I sense death on the far side. The forest whispers to mine mind. We will have to make a multitude of leaps, as this power hath its limitations, even when enhanced by others of my kind. It will not last forever, so come quickly, or not at all. I will allow ten seconds between each tree. So move, with utmost haste.
For the sake of time, you will end up on the outskirts of Phandalin after making several treestrides, as both the distance and duration have been enhanced at the cost of some of the druids life forces. So, if you intend to go, post as is you are in a hurry.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cirrus addresses the party before he proceeds, "I understand that we are all tired, but if there is even the slightest that our presence can help the people of Phandalin, I'm taking it. I'm tired of being complicit in bloodshed." He follows the trio of druids.
You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
Rose gave up on trying to understand the druid, she spoke many languages including undercommon but it seemed the old fact had read one too many fantasy novels while spending his time frolicking in the forest. Instead she was content to follow Burgee and Cirrus on this hoping one of them would explain what they are supposed to be doing. However she did understand the part about the bugbear or so she thought. She glared angrily at the druid for his petty reasons to kill the bugbear but was relieved when it seemed he was willing to let him go, not that she wasn't confident he would still try to have him killed. Before the bugbear left she whispered to him in the language of goblins. Be safe, and be wary of the forest. I don't trust this druid not to try and send something after you. Live, for your brother. When the bugbear ran off Rose put away her weapon ready to follow the others.

Cirrus listens to Appa's response.
"A very generous offer, [In Primordial: "One Blessed by Nature"], there is a chance, slim as it may be, that I might have a lead on the staff.

Well, what hast thou discovered?
Occassional Dungeon Master.

Occassional Dungeon Master.
Cirrus addresses the party before he proceeds, "I understand that we are all tired, but if there is even the slightest that our presence can help the people of Phandalin, I'm taking it. I'm tired of being complicit in bloodshed." He follows the trio of druids.
