Burgee twirls his fingers as he mumbles a short phrase and launches a ball of fire toward one of the approaching enemy but his lack of attention causes the flame to pass harmlessly by it's target and boomerang back towards himself and the party. (Attack: 5 Damage: 2)
(Rose takes a total of 25 damage from the hobb that died)
Rose goes in for a followup as the other two hobbs pour in, but her overconfidence causes her to miss, a swing straight between its legs, slamming against the ground in a loud, but otherwise dull thud that faded as fast as it came in the wind-noise. Takign advantage of it, the hobb alternates the claymore going straight through her back, and coming out the front, piercing the floor as blood begins to leak out from the gaping hole - Giving Cirrus flashbacks of his own.
If not for how frigidly cold the blade itself was, the pain would be excruciating, instead it burned in its frigidity. Seeing this as he was sizing them up, Paavu lunges harshly at the one who had just stuck Rose through completely, killing him in that blow as his spear does much the same to the hobb as his sword did to Rose. Falling over limply.
Trying to follow up on Paavu's success, Cirrus takes aim at the remaining hobb, but he aimed just a bit too high, and the bolt glanced off of the armor, clattering into the next room loudly. The hobb that had just died, as it fell, Roses body turns with the blade for just a moment before it pops out. Burgee, also reveling in Paavu's success, brings some warmth into the equation and casts a fiery bolt, unfortunately Paavu is still just a tad too close as he's pulling his weapon out of the hobb.. a soft flame igniting and singing off half of Paavu's hair, if he had any.
Gwen's own bolt doing much the same as Cirrus' on the opposite shoulder. Finally, seeing that Cirrus needs a bit of pep, she whispers something sweet sounding and soft, in elvish. Cirrus feeling inspired.
The hobb growls out in anger at its comrade falling, roaring out defiantly in common Even if we fall, GROL will kill you! He will feast on your flesh and throw your bone to owlbear pet! feinting an attack at Paavu, the hobb charges past everyone straight at Gwen, recognizing her as one of the prisoners.... And unless dealt 7 or more damage by AO's from Paavu, or Rose, he will slash down at her with heavy force...
Rose gasps for air but finds only blood in her lungs as the blade runs her through. As she slumps.to the ground the world around her starts to fade. She stares off blankly at Gwen, thinking about how pretty she looked from this angle. As Rose starts to loose consciousness she sees a brief glimpse of Selûne, a vision or maybe just her subconscious doing its work. Either way Rose knew she wasn't ready to die just yet, not with Selûnes work unfinished. Despite the giant hole in her chest, and the blood rushing out of it, Rose slowly stands back up to stare down the offending Hobgolblin. You're all going to face Selûnes wrath! Die like Grol you mother****ers!
AoO From Paavu: Action:Pig Sticker. To Hit: 11 For: 7 non-magical piercing damage to rushing hob.
Mercifully hairless though still agitated by the misfire, Paavu's sharp glance at Burgee for the incident costs him reacting quick enough at the charging Hobgoblin. He only just spins around in time to lung but catch only a few hairs at best from the nape of a hobgoblin neck. He starts to step forth meaning to correct the mistake. Then he not only does he pause shocked to hear Rose had risen once more, but barreled to break knees. At another time he might've called it a wonderous sight. It could be he still regales the tale.
But later... Much later. With a growl of his own, Pig Sticker gets hefted up and brought down as he stepped forth in what he hoped would drive the hobgoblin straight into the earth.
Action:Pig Sticker. To Hit: 17 For: 6 non-magical piercing damage to remaining Hob.

Cirrus nearly freezes when he sees what happens to Rose, but manages to shake off his shock in time to take the previously mentioned shot (however useless it might have been). He then puts away his crossbow to pull out his pipes and immediately shoots off a 2nd lv healing word, healing Rose for 10 points of healing. After that he looks to Gwen, "good news for you, if this does leave a scar, it won't be nearly as bad as mine. Magical Healing!" He then is going to pull out his rapier and attempt to end this fight here. 12 to hit, 3 damage.
And just for good measure I'm gonna use that point of inspiration Gwen just gave me: 20 to hit, 6 damage
Ideally, I would like to be the one stabbing him through the torso with a sword, smugly remarking "taste of your own medicine, eh?" as I pull my blade from his chest.
You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
As the sword pierces Rose Gwen cries out in shock, never before having seen such ferocity, and never before having seen Rose go from the description of health, to bleeding like a stick melon, collapsing onto the floor, and seeing that twilight aura fade, she knew that Rose had fallen. Rose! No!she stood there stunned for a moment, the death not quite registering in her mind, so stunned that she wasn't even able to try to avoid the blow as it came across her.
The hobb makes it past unscathed, slashing Gwen right across the face rather hard. However, briefly a shimmering shield appears around her and absorbs most of the blow thanks to Rose's sanctuary. A bloody gash left in the wake of the claymores strike, as well as breaking Gwen's nose. Gwen yelling out again, though this time in physical pain as she reeled to the side, under the blow. When Rose cried out, Gwen wasn't sure if she was simply imagining it in her shock, or something else.
Paavu following up on another miss by Rose, stabbing the hobb in the back, nearly finishing it, but the hob managing to catch itself before falling entirely. Healing magic flowing from Cirrus' instrument, sealing the most immediate wounds on Rose, sealing the hole entirely in that single spell, rose almost not feeling the pain anymore.
Cirrus blade initially meeting resistance, but piercing through in the end to the other side, as the hobb finally dies to the final, fatal blow. Quiet once more entering the room, aside from Gwens pained cries, and the howling storm outside.
Once the last enemy falls Rose drops her hammer to the ground and stumbles over to Gwen. Gwen-hun-are you-okay? She asks between breathe. Falling to her knees she Cirrus-can you-heal her? I'm afraid I'm-tapped out. Regardless if he does or does not Rose just looks down at the hole in her armor and starts wondering to herself how that might have gotten there before vaguely remembering a significant pain only moments ago. I think-I'm ready to get out of here...find a warm bed in an inn somewhere and fall asleep for a long while.
Rose would stand back up and hug Gwen tightly and say just low enough for her to hear, "I'm sorry" before gathering her hammer off the floor and looking to the others. It's time we head back to the others and get ready to get the hell out if here. She then starts walking back to where Gundren and co are.
Paavu quirks a brow at Cirrus, then gave the genasi a grudging but acknowledging nod as he withdrew his spear fully from the corpse. Whether it fell upon Cirrus as a result, or collapses to the wayside, the Goliath appear to care little, as the little drama with Rose and Gwen played itself out. At her statement, the Goliath glanced out the nearest arrow slits, then back to Rose shaking his head. "... Patience, little flower. We are going nowhere. Not in this storm. You would all perish before you reached any nearby shelter... assuming there's in. But worry not. The Hobs words can be trusted. There are no more enemies that should visit this place. Not before we've taken our leave."
On that note, he looks to Burgee and Cirrus. "There is much yet Paavu feels need be said. But for now, you should head to the room. Figure out watches and rest. Or stay, and help Paavu collect what is useful here.... See to goblins as well, he supposes." Paavu is already searching the bodies of the various bodies now in the room for coin to hold on to, weapons to collect, and clothing and cloth for the former prisoners to make use of. He is also certain to check the remains of the shrine for possible useful items. But as it is the last thing on his mind, only a cusorary search is done beforethe want to hurry back and see to the goblin's gets the better of him.

Gwen is still covering her face from the blow as the combat comes to a close. Hearing Rose's voice, she almost thinks she must be hallucinating before seeing her standing there before her, her eyes going wide with relief. Breathing out raggedly, between her prior physical beatdown, the cold, the recent combat, finding Rose again, and everything else. She lets out a ragged sigh. Yeah hun, I'm fine. Just cold, tired and hurt. the cut on her face is going from left brow, to bottom right jaw, clearly across her now broken nose. Blood softly pouring out but freezing not long after, staunching it.
And I agree with the big guy. I think it's too dangerous to try to go out in this blizzard, even with this armor, I still have exposed parts.. like my ears.. and they'll freeze clean off. And .. chances are, the other castle-folk are dead from the cold. We can huddle together for warmth near the cooking-pots fire.. though maybe we should get the extra blankets and any spare wood to light... The one saving grace of that room .. the whole room... was the only thing I've seen that still seems to be structurally sound... And the arrow slits are in the corner of the room.. so if we sit opposite the fire, we should all be good. no?
Rose nods and gets up and takes Gwen by the hand. Come on, let's go get some rest. Rose will then escort Gwen and Cirrus, if he chooses to come, back to the others.

As Burgee and Paavu look around the area for treasures, they both end up noticing a stone altar stands in the middle of the room, covered with bloodstained black cloth. Golden ritual implements — a chalice, a knife, and a censer — are carefully arranged on top of the altar. Two archways to the south are covered with heavy curtains. While some of it they already knew, they were finally able to take it all in in full order. It appeared this place used to warrant other dieties, but they had been profaned and replaced with carvings of maglubiyet in their replacement. Picking up some of these items, they can tell they're old, and likely worth much.... The chalice, knife, and censer are human-made art objects worth 150 gp, 60 gp, and 120 gp, respectively. And between the bodies, another 43 GP is discovered between them all including Lhupo.
Two of the hobbs carry greatswords, one the typical longsword. The drummers have their drumsets and sticks, but nothing else. Lhupo is wearing his vestaments, but is now soaked them with their own blood in the meantime. Aside from that are all goblin-sized leather armor, and all of the hobbs are wearing chainmail, one of them having a shield.
Gwen nodding to Rose weakly as she gingerly touches her face, feeling just how sore it was with her hands, and wincing a bit as they left. Yes, let us all get some rest. Hurry along with your searches.... I doubt they had much more than the spoils of others and what they had on them. before the pair disappeared, passing the extremely frigid hallway they had just came in before joining Ja'ree, Gundren, and the rest. The goblins having been long here, and sitting opposite the room, all of which are engaged in staring contests with the prisoners and Gundren and co. It seemed there was little trust there, but Ja'ree had managed to convince both sides they weren't there to harm eachother.
Burgee stumbles across several instruments, including one that seemed to have Gwens name carved onto it's base hidden behind the altar itself.

Gwen? Burgee asks himself. "Hey Paavu, there are some things here," Burgee says aloud as he bends down to pick up the item with Gwen's name carved to investigate (6) the item further . "This one may belong to Rose's friend," he adds as he shows it to Paavu. He then assists gathering up anything of value to share with his companions and to see if they may have other uses for any of the items.
"Hm?" Paavu looks over to Burgee. "Hn.... Good find. See to it that makes it back to her." Is all he adds as the various things are compiled together. When all is said and done, Paavu lingers a while there yet to count up the coin, and then passes whoever lingered to help 5gp each, promising to pass along the rest to the others upon making to Grol's room. Aside from this, his chain, as well as that of the chalice, knife, and censer, is carefully packed into his backpack for safekeeping.
The weapons are a fair bit more tricky, and at some point he asks for Burgee to at least carry the shield and longsword back to give to Dot, as well as the clothes taken off the hobgoblin back. Seeing the blood stains, he makes a point of asking if any of the spellslingers have magic to clean the stuff off. Later.
But with looting eventually out of the way, and the goblinoid bodies moved into the Grick room to freeze over night, an action if given funny looks, Paavu expresses as "Better here than in alter room. Bad times usually follows otherwise"in passing. Whenever he eventually arrives in the room, though the tension gave him pause, he shrugged it off with a snort, and heads over first a claymore to Dot, as well as passes out 5 gold to each party member. But with the caveat of at least offering to give Dot, Ja'Ree, and Gwen the excess three to help recoup their losses.
Finally, he turns upon the Goblins, and with hands bereft of any weapons, walks over and took a knee to be closer to eye level with Piyu. "You bring Paavu's rope?" He asked calmly in goblin. If she hesitates or looks guilty, he simply makes an off-handed as if to say 'No matter' before briskly moving on. "Piyu leader now. So, Piyu send some to retrieve all the meats in storage. Bring back here so Paavu can make great stew for all tonight. Warm bellies for once, and not scrap they likely been giving scrawny little ones." At that, he pokes at her belly. "Bringing bedding here too. Will be cramped, but at least it would be warmest place in castle. When all done, we rest. And in morning, Piyu and Piyu's people decide if still come with, or go elsewhere. Not stay here though. Won't be able to defend well."
He lets the words sink in a moment before continuing on. "Paavu not forget promise of reward either. But, not now still. Danger has passed, but... need more time for it. See to it dwarf has been returned to town."
(So, that's 5gp to everyone except Gwen's crew(maybe) who get 6gp instead. We'll have to see about selling the other stuff in town before dividing the coin there)
Eventually everyone makes their way back into the room, where the goblins and the rest of the group were. Dot sitting where she had been. Ja'ree nursing his ankle. Gwen and Rose likely taking a spot close to the fire but a little spaced out from everyone else. The goblins huddled together, all sharing two of the blankets, and laying next to each-other. Gundren taking the spot farthest from the goblins: While trusting the words of his saviors, he wouldn't fully trust them just yet.
Paavu passing out food to everyone using the cooling pot, warming everyone from the inside-out after the gobs reluctantly went out to get the rotting meat, which the majority of it was. Everyone ate decently. Any checks of the rest of the castle, would reveal little else aside from the weapons and armor on bodies. The rest of the goblins and hobbs possessing nothing of value.
Cirrus and the party itself all picking their own spots as the blizzard outside howled. It wasn't a comfortable night - The wind was blocked in most corners, but the arrow slits allowed just a bit in through the north corner, luckily, between the fire, and the firewood, blankets, etc it was bearable. Despite the best planning, everyone's cold exhaustion causes even the stoutest to fall asleep eventually.
The storm howled on till the early morning, but eventually abated an hour before the sun rose. The chill ws still in the air, but one could probably walk around with a light blanket and still be comfortable. Unfortunately it made wanting to get up a lot harder. Gundren slept on, snoring loudly, shivering lightly. Everyone feeling chilly but rested. The fire itself had guttered out at some point, leaving warm cinders but little else. Though Cirrus stumbled upon some fine dwarven brandy that looks like it could fill roughly twenty glasses.
Cirrus helped makes the stew, using the stirring rod for the same purpose as the goblins, all the while wondering about the strange carvings on the staff. By the time the stew was eaten, he had realized the staff's true purpose.
Sleep actually comes very easily to Cirrus, as he used Prestidigitation to warm three cubic feet of his clothes and blanket, making it much easier to be comfortable.
Cirrus pockets the brandy, wondering what to do with liquor he can't drink.
"Alright, well that was certainly an action-packed day yesterday. Let's hope we can manage to bring Mr. Rockseeker to Phandalin without anything else going horrendously wrong, eh?"

Bad times usually follows otherwise" in passing.

(I'm gonna retrieve my caltrops too.)
