This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Burgee becomes a living bugzapper, frying one off him like one does a grotesque, flying wart. The creature sliding out and plopping against the floor with a sickening, fleshy-bag squelch. One of the creatures lingers on him suckling plaintively for his lifesblood. Paavu flailing around like a giant swatting at flies but slashes two of the creatures rather deftly as both spatter more half-digested blood all over the party. Rose biding her time to hit as many as possible..... Cirrus maybe kinda sorta fires another bolt into the air, skewering yet another sucker (3) the bolt falling down and narrowly missing Gwen.
As the Stirges approach, Rose launches her spell into the center of the largest mass of them 13 of them falling to the spell instantly, and another one feeling drowsy, yet managing to resist. The 13 fall from the sky now instead, all dying from their uncontrolled tumble.
(each of you need to make a DC 8 DEX Save or take 1d4-2 bludgeoning damage from the falling creatures. And be covered in yet more disgusting blood)
23 stirges remain presently.
Gwen takes two shasles at the nearby ones, tryign to get the one off of Burgee first, then slashing the other that had managed to latch on.
(Attack: 7 Damage: 5 - - Attack: 9 Damage: 8)
And tosses Cirrus some inspiration. (Had forgotten to do Gwens turn prior... I seem to continue forgetting, so is someone other than Rose willing to take up Gwens character? Since having Rose flirt with them-self would be a little silly) (Dex: 24)
Gwens first strike is so precise, she manages to skewer one of the stirges while her rapier is only a fraction of an inch away from burgee's flesh, yet never harms him. The stirge falling off deftly. However, in such awe with herself, when she goes for the second strike, intent on repeating the feat, she nearly skewers Burgee's eye out instead, narrowly missing.
22 stirges.
As most of the stirges nearby have been dealt with, the group turns back to look at the tiny shadows coming from the ceiling. The one latched onto Cirrus continues to suckle his life away... (4)
this time they flurry down like synchronized swimmers, and swarm over Paavu... every single one of them. A blinding flurry of rancid, puss-filled flesh.

The flurry doesn't allow much room for any of them but two of them dig their probing maws directly into Paavu's eyes, one of them piercing his neck, and several others find purchase in weak links in his armor and begin to bleed the man dry (70 damage between all ones that hit 19+ with a total of 11 hits) the others, blocked off by either each-other, or unable to pierce his armor.
PARTY IS UP 22 remain, all of them swarming Paavu in a blinding cloud.
(so, is Paavu dead? He doesn't even come close to 70 hp as his max, and once he's reduced to 0, all it takes is three different Stirges to land a successful hit on him, and he is dead. I don't know if that requires a Medicine (9) check to see if he is mortally wounded or an Arcana (8) to determine if magical healing would be useless)
Cirrus, who has probably studied magic enough to know this exists, says panicked to Rose, "You're a cleric, can you bring back the dead?"
If Paavu can be saved, either by my surface-level healing magic or Rose's cleric power:
If I can heal him,
Cirrus will drop the crossbow, and pull out his pipes and his rapier. I will cast a healing word to try and get Paavu back up (9 points of healing). Then I will try to attack the stirge attacking me. Attack: 25 Damage: 7.
If he can only be saved by Rose,
Cirrus will cast [/spell]Faerie Fire[/spell] on the mound of stirges. DC 13. He will also give a bardic inspiration to Rose since he's counting on her to help Paavu.
If Paavu is clearly dead and there is no hope of resurrection:
Still being attacked by one stirge, Cirrus wants to take advantage of the group of stages all in one place, and since his ally will not be feeling anything ever again, Cirrus will chuck his bottle of dwarves brandy at the stirges, coating them all in flammable alcohol. Cirrus will then command, "Burgee! Fire! Now!" and will give a Bardic Inspiration to the aforementioned bird.

When Rose saw the stirges swarm Paavu and immediately start to suck the giant dry her heart sank deep in her chest. Rose didn't want to believe what she saw could be real but knew there wasn't anything she could do to save him. Even if she could get to him, she couldn't stabilize a dead man. Trying not to cry out in rage Rose quickly repeats her sleep spell to try and knock out the mass of stirges.
(Paavu is beyond saving, you're actually quite literally watching him wither in front of you, so in this case Cirrus action will be throwing alcohol on the stirges - Also Rose's sleep will hit another 14 of them, leaving 8 conscious - Posting this here to help others resolve their actions)
Burgee cannot believe what he is seeing and cries out to Paavu, "Hang on big guy!" But he gets no reply. He carfully thow's an icicle at one of the creatures headed toward Pavvu hoping the swarm is close enough together that several will get hit by the icy debris. (Attack: 23 Damage: 9 Plus Dex DC13 or 10 for any within 5 ft. 3 of party pass dex check for careful spell)
"That is literally the opposite of fire!" (I realize this might be asking too much, but I'll ask anyway.) Can I cast prestidigitation on one of my candles, run towards the pile of stirges (maybe like 10 ft. away), toss the candle trying to get the flame on some of the brandy, and run away with what ever movement remains? If that's more that I can do on my turn (which I understand if it is, I'm really pushing the boundaries of what a "free action" is), then I will put my actual turn here tomorrow:
Put your spoiler here.
Again, to Burgee, this time in Aauran, "We need flames to finish off that swarm! Paavu is gone!"

Cirrus continues to panic at the situation as the steady rock of a goliath is quite rapidly being drained of blood, and other juices continues to wilt in front of them. Rose, though crying out in a rage of despair at the shocking, and sudden loss of the big-guy.. and Yue who is resisting howling as she knows her master is dead... Rose through gritted teeth casts sleep, putting another large chunk of them to sleep.

Burgee seemingly in less of a panic than the others throws a knife at the cluster**** of creatures. Six of the remaining stirges manage to avoid being hit, while two explode in fresh-bloody gore fro m he knife, popping like an overripe pimple. The one's who were asleep, unable to dodge, also pop into gore, some with, and some without 'new' blood, leaving just 6 of the creatures alive, but seeing Paavu's corpse thee and most of the competition gone... they land on him like flies and begin seeking to drain him of what he has left, ignoring all else.
Cirrus, seeing the few left alive, lights a candle and tosses it onto Paavu's corpse, igniting the alcohol relatively quickly, and catching the Stirges in the sudden fire (1) the fire consuming the remaining mosquito-shits almost instantly, and the intensity of the flames quickly beginning to char, and burn Paavu's body, but before he he can be actually cremated... the fuel is spent, and the fire goes out, leaving behind the smell of blood, mucus, and burnt flesh.
Combat is over.
Gwen.. looking upon the scene, frowns. She hadn't known Paavu long, and the man had gotten on her nerves a bit, but.. he wasn't a bad guy.. and to go out like that.... Poor guy... I hope you all learn from this.... Not that you needed a lesson... but never underestimate a foe.. no matter how weak they are, even they can take down a giant of a man...Genome slinks off of the wall, having avoided the combat entirely. And you all now notice that whatever that humming was, was gone now... the stirges likely the source of it. It seems you all made a fine mess of things here, I normally slink through here unharassed. I suppose a group as large... and as warm as we are would garner their attention though. Unfortunate. Shall we press on? I'm afraid if you delay too long, you will miss your chance to even attempt to do anything about my master. So decision must be made.
Genome doesn't really seem to care about Paavu's loss. And you may as well see if he has anything on him worth keeping.. or yo ucan always come back later.
Once adrenaline from combat had worn off Rose finally let herself succumb to her emotions. Tears rolling down her eyes she walks over to Paavus remains and falls to her knees. I....I'm sorry Paavu....I s-should've done something to save you. Rose allows herself a few more moments of tears before finally standing up. Wiping away her tears she says between cries As much as I....hate to admit it. I think Genome is right. Paavu wouldn't want us to waste time. We collect what we can and move on. They'll be time for mourning after. Rose the walks over to Gwen and ends up sticking even closer to her than she had before, now especially paranoid.
Yue pads over to Paavu beside Rose, and tries nudging him into moving with her nose. But seeing it to little avail, she whines a little, and circles his body a few times, nudging his limbs in futility. Finally, she just lays down beside him, and largely appear to ignore everyone else.

Rose, noticing Yue walks back over to her and sits down, tears still in her eyes. I know girl....I'm sorry. You can still come with us if you want. He would want you to be safe though I think. Rose would pet Yue, if she let's her, until the others were ready to move. Rose would try to convince Yue to come along with them but wouldn't force the issue, hoping the wolf might catch up or at least find it's own way back to the wild.
"It's true. Paavu was not a man to dilly dally, and he would not want his death to cause us to miss our target. We most certainly will collect his body later, and say proper words. Later. For now, I think it be appropriate if one of us used one of the weapons he favored, that way it's like his will to fight lives on. He made it very clear how he felt about a blade and its purpose to its wielder. Rose, I think you're the one best equipped to wield one of his most iconic weapons, take your pick and we will hurry onward."
While this is happening, Cirrus will take a look at Paavu's withered form and say, "We'll make sure it was a cause worth dying for."

Burgee is speechless. He eyes Genome and mumbles to himself, Should have let him finish you. He makes his way to Paavu's body and stares a while. He kneels down beside Yue with Rose as Rose tries to pet her. Burgee addresses Yue softly, in a tone he hopes will comfort her, "It ok girl. Paavu moved on to other realm. We will take good care." He lets his hand out for her to nuzzle. He looks over at Paavu and then stands before the wind begins to rustle around him as his anger grows. He takes a deep breath and whispers to the giant, "Forgive me. My tongue is quick, but your character was never doubted. I should have acted quicker." The anger started rising again and the air whipped around him. You will be avenged, he thought to himself and he cut his eyes again toward Genome. But he drew in a deep breath and calmed himself. For now was not the time, and finishing the task was the first act of upholding Paavus name.

Rose hesitantly looked over Paavus weapons. She wasn't sure if she should wield one or not but for now it would at least serve as a momento. Taking the axe Hew, Rose would stand up and turn to Genome. What are you waiting for? Lead the way. Then looking towards the others she vowed When this is done we will give him a proper burial if we can. For now we move forward. Let's go. And with that Rose would start following Genome.
Apart from a glance in Rose's direction, Yue was content, or at least too saddened to care whether Rose reached out to her or not. But once she did, she nuzzled the hand back before going back to her quiet vigil. She is less so in the mood to nuzzle anyone after, but did sniff at the hand at least before settling down again. Sensing the rise in emotion from Burgee however, she sat up, and regarded him warily; his words of comfort before having stayed any growling or defensive posture, even though his anger had not been directed at either her or Paavu's body.
Once he settles down, so too did she, if albeit enough to lay down again and just watch the others depart.

Genome, seeing that everyone was ready, and.. tensions were rising, shrugs. Gwen, doesn't seem so heavy hearted as everyone else. Not that she didn't care.. she just hadn't known the guy long enough to bond. She felt the general sadness one does on behalf of someone else losing someone important and even says a quick, silent prayer, and, sicne no one else had, she placed her hands over his eyes, and brushed the bloody-lids down, so he would at-least be at repose. We may not have gotten along well, but you were a tough man, if nothing else, filled with a little too much courage it seems. But atleast you had a long life, from the looks of it. Filled with the battle your people enjoyed. You got to fight off a dragon before the end, and you are the one who did most of that, like a machine in battle. I'll sing a song about you when this is all over, and I'll make it something you'll be happy about , if not proud of. But we al lknow, as everyone keeps saying... you'd say "Stop wasting time crying, get moving' so.. lets.
Genome having finally seen that everyone was ready to move on... led the way, ignoring the jabs as they eventually made their way out of the tunnel. The only thing Genome says before the group inevitably makes camp for the night is Just to be clear, I'm leading you all down the same path I took.
You all somberly settle down for the night, except for Genome, whom remains unexcitable as ever. Each of you set out for your watches, enjoying a long rest (313 exp each) but near the middle of the night, as Cirrus is on watch alone, he hears a howl in the night, echoing off the many hills as the eerie dirge sounds.
(Whenever Cirrus is on watch, he makes sure he has an eye on Genome)
Last time he heard ominous sounds in the dead of night, he practically bolted off into the night, hardly giving anyone proper warning. This time he is more subtle, he begins quickly drumming on his allies feet to wake them up, whispering "Tsst tsst, wake up," while doing so. He is bit more forceful with Rose, shaking her shoulders and telling her "Rose, I need night vision." While waiting for Rose's grogginess to fade, he will look to see if Genome is still among them. Once he has been granted sight, he will try to see what is causing the noise (Perception: 15 (Disadvantage in case Rose refuses to give him dark vision: 16)).

Burgee yawns and grumbles a bit before waking. "Wha... what is it?" he asks as Cirrus moves off to the next one in the group. Sitting up, he doesn't see anything, but Cirrus looking excited as he shakes Rose. "What's the fuss?" he asks as he slowly starts grabbing his belongings. "Did you see something?" he grabs his staff and looks intently out into the darkness, seeing nothing.

Occassional Dungeon Master.

"I didn't see anything. I heard a howling sound. Can't be too careful, that's why I need Rose's blessing of sight."
