That being the case I’ll man the helm again! If we are done shall we shove off and get some more distance beneath us? Branagh helps pack away the supplies, smiles at Natalia then hitches the oxen and climbs back up onto his spot on the wagon.
(After Bran gets responses if there are any) Everyone resumes their previous positions and resume their travel. After about an hour, you notice that the forest becomes slightly more thin on the west side, and it seems to evolve into more of an open area with the tree's being a bit more sparse. The ground still shows no sign of rain at this point and is still firm for the cart, although it does not kick up dirt and dust as if it were dry and lacking water. You can smell the salt again from the sea due to the lack of tree's. On the forest side (eastern) you can see more hills with how the tree tops shift around, and you notice a few smaller birds soaring up high, occasionally swooping down after prey.
Kal make a perception check as you are in the lead.
Kal, you spot a fairly large snake up ahead right off the road and next to where the oxen would be walking. It is a very dark green and brown snake, and part of the underside that you can see is a lighter brown. It is currently not moving, and partially coiled up facing the road. It appears to have a slight cloud over its eyes, and has more of a diamond shape face. The snake is about 20 feet ahead of you currently.
(I do not know how familiar you are with snakes IRL, but if you have any questions let me know as I am listing a few facts below that will inform you a bit, of course a history or nature check would be needed in this case to see if you know about it.)
Typically snakes become aggressive (or more aggressive) prior to the shedding process (first indications is normally a cloud over the eyes depending on the type of snake), Diamond shaped snakes are venomous more often than not with some exceptions.
(There are snakes that are poisonous, but when you are bitten by a snake, it is technically called venomous. (Poison is consumed, transferred by contact, ect. and Venom is injected into the blood.))
First thing would be to back off & signal the wagon to stop so I can assess the situation. Is the road wide enough for the wagon to get around it in peace?
Snakes, why'd it have to be snakes?

Varax notices a change in Kaldor's demeanor, causing him to shift from his more laid back and relaxed position on the cart. "What is it, Kaldor? What do you see?" As he looks where Kaldor is moving, he readies his heavy crossbow and trains it on the road ahead.
The snake is venomous, you can tell by the shape of it's head, but the road is wide enough for 2 carts to pass, so if you did attempt to skirt the snake, it would be out of direct striking range of the oxen.
Yep, it's poisonous. Pro'lly able to get the wagon round the other side widout spookin' it.
To be safe, I rather run it off. Don't wanna kill it less I haf ta. Loud noises and vibrations should scare it away. Any of you magic users got anything like dat?
“Snake? Can’t we just go around? They are more scared of people than we are of them usually.”Niche’s voice came from the back of the wagon, seconds later her head pokes out from behind Bran, wanting to get a view of the snake too.
Natalia says, Let me take a look at him. She gets within about 5 feet of the snake and looks closely, she pulls out an empty sack from her pack and says, If you want to try to go around, I can catch him if he moves.
The Tiefling trains his heavy crossbow on the snake "Then we should not take any chances. A scared predator is even more dangerous than a calm one. If one of these oxen go down, we are stuck."
“All the more reason that we leave it alone I say.” Niche commented when she heard what Natalia said, “Although animal calming magic would be handy right now too.”

snake lunge at Natalia 16
Natalia's redirection 11
The snake lunges at Natalia, she moves the sack over the snakes head as it strikes, then she drops to the ground and puts the remainder of the snake in the sack and ties it off. She leaves little room for the snake as to be confined to the bottom and more of a place to grab the sack safely. She ties a rope around the top of the sack and attaches the other end to a hook on the back of the wagon. She brushes herself off and says I think I have a use for that snake later. It wont be traveling with us for long.
Natalia smiles at your comment, but you get the feeling that is not exactly what she had in mind.
As your afternoon begins to turn into evening, you have continued on your path thus far at a steady pace, and the sun is starting to get close to the point of decent beyond the horizon (about an hour away). The breeze has picked up and the smell of the forest is almost washed away by the smell of the sea at this point. There are sections were the forest is clear enough for you to pull your cart over off of the road on that side, and likewise there is ample room for you to pull your cart over almost anywhere of the side closest to the sea. Is there anything that has happened during your travel thus far after the snake? (discussions, interactions, or events that has taken place to note during this time, any questions for me or clarification needed at this point?) Where do you wish to set up camp? Will there be a fire or not? Will there a guard or not? If there is are you taking shifts in pairs or not?
Surprised by Natalia’s bold move, Niche stares wide eyed as she casually stuffs the snake into a sac and ties it to the hook at the back of the wagon. As Natalia passes by her again, she mumbles a question in thieve’s cant disguised as a complaint to satisfy her curiosity.
Are you out of your mind? Getting at a snake with venom like that. I‘m getting dangerous vibes from it already, you better get rid of it later alright?
Casting cautious glances every so often at the snake containing sac for the rest of the journey, Niche watched as the sun began to dip lower and lower until the sky turned a pretty red and orange hue. She calls out to those at the front of the wagon, ”Looks like time to make camp unless you guys want to travel in the dark! And I don’t want to travel over muddy paths when I can’t see well. We’ll have enough light to make fire and get some more food if we stop around here I’d say.”
(has it been enough time for Niche to finish meditating on her ring btw?)
Branagh waits until there is a reasonable gap in the tree line before pulling over and halting the oxen. If anyone asks why the forest side and not the seaward side he’ll respond by saying the trees are a good wind break and may provide some shelter if it rains overnight.
Dismounting his pops his back and proceeds to start gathering kindling for a camp fire. I think it’s best if we set up watches now that we are away from town. I’m happy to take whichever watch but I would say that my night vision isn’t as good as some others. He looks up from where he is starting the fire to see what the others say
