"Did you know that? I was here in the city when the cataclysm occurred, but did not suspect we were physically transported somewhere! This is an ominous event..."
Tibi looks at Kaelani with a smirk "too busy telling others what to do, rather than concentrating on what's going around you eh Soibpa? Why I am not surprised! As to the omniosity of the event - well that just means we can hope that the rewards whatever they are and whatever form they take will equal the now increased level of risk." He turns to Darvin "have you got that? Soibpa here claims there is an increase in the onniosity of what's going on - a greater level of reward will now be paid to the Chapter reflecting the greater level of risk!"
Reya laughs. "You knew we were headed to Avernus, the first layer of hell, Tibi. There was no extra omniosity to the event. We have a contract and I intend to honor it. I hope you do as well no matter what happened to your blue friend that is now gone."
Tibi or Kaelani make a Deception or Persuasion roll

"Come now, my lady. You do not fully appreciate the magnitude of the existential threat we are facing here! To enter into Avernus is one thing, but to be confronted by by both devils AND demons is a far more significant undertaking than you must have initially established in your contract."
"Acquisition's Incorporated are professionals and they knew exactly what they were getting into when they signed the contract. Whether they appreciate the magnitude of the danger or not means nothing. They will get the job done. Everyone knows devil's and demons inhabit this plane. Let's get this job done."
She turns to Gideon,
"May we pass to deal with the demon threat? The men that came before us are not in league with the demons."
Taking the opportunity to head down and hopefully find Ulder Ravengard.
The stairs turn down and lead to a small room with set of double doors open on the north side.
This workshop appears to be where priests and acolytes prepared dead bodies for final interment. The place has been ransacked, with knives, saws, piping, and tubes littering the floor. Acid and embalming fluid pool everywhere, amid a field of shattered flasks and jars. You can see tracks of multiple demons in the detritus spread across the floor. Amid those tracks, signs can be seen of a single group of booted humans moving down the stairs. These boot prints, trailing embalming fluid, head north through the open double doors that led to a T intersection. Stairs lead down in both directions, left and and right.
The boot prints lead to the right but also appear to have come back from that direction and then descend the stairs to the left.
"My natural curiosity makes me want to see what they found so disinteresting to the right before following them to the left. Maybe we'll see something of use the previous group missed?!!" Kaelani offers as looks both ways at the T intersection.
"I disagree" Tibi says idly tossing the decionist coin "we follow the most recent set of tracks> Gentlemen and Raya left turn please!"as he sets off down the left hand side.
(G8) The walls of this chamber are lined with funerary shelves, each set with dusty humanoid bones. Relics and holy symbols of Lathander, Torm, Helm, and Tyr have been set prominently on a number of shelves.
(G9) This huge chamber is lined by funerary shelves along the stone walls above six bare daises, creating a display of dusty humanoid bones rising from floor to ceiling.
(G10) This area is set with cushions and low stools of brown oak. Above an empty dais, the wall is covered with a mosaic shaped from colored chips of bone, artfully arranged to depict scenes of funerals, the migration of souls, and the celestial realms. Lettering along the bottom of the mosaic reads: “Contemplate life. Death comes soon enough.”
Darvin (Is he still around?) recognizes this area as one in which priests dedicated to dealing with the dead would meditate to help them endure the dark nature of their work.
(G12) A shallow meditation pool fills this room, set off from a broad landing edged by a low wrought-iron railing. Wondrous frescoes along the walls depict souls gaining the blessings of Lathander, Torm, Helm, and Tyr. The frescoes on the east wall have been twisted into abyssal forms surrounding a shimmering portal.
The pool is littered with the mutilated bodies of humans wearing the uniforms of Baldur’s Gate and Elturel. The swirling water of the pool roils with shadow, and is shot through with patches of black ichor where demons have fallen here. An armored man with a shield slung over his back crouches among the bodies, writhing in pain. He wears a bloodied suit of plate armor emblazoned with the emblem of the Flaming Fist. His shield, which also bears this emblem, is slung over his back. His eyes are closed, and his hands clutch at a gold helm on his head as if trying in vain to claw it off. Unintelligible words spill from his lips, some sounding saintly and solemn, while others resonate with a cruel hissing.
Darvin and Kaelani can make out some of the words that the man utters as he switches between Abyssal and Celestial.
Darvin and Kaelani make a Intelligence (Arcana or Religion) check.
Kaelani understands about half of what the man is saying, and struggles to make any sense of it. He watches the man trying to remove the golden helm, and decides to give him a hand. Well, a spectral hand, that is. No way he's touching that thing! (Casting mage hand and trying to lift the golden helm off of the man's head with it...)
Darvin and Kaelani piece together what is happening and together realize that a psychic struggle is taking place within Ravengard’s mind between some divine higher power and a terrible, demonic entity. The power of the portal is now tied into the helm, and to Ravengard. While Kaelani tries to simply remove the helm from Ravenguard with a mage's hand he quickly realizes that no simple spell can break this hold — but that a more involved ritual might free Ravengard and shut down the portal by allowing the power of Torm to sanctify this area once more.
Tibi is quick to point out that he recalls that Pherria, back at the cathedral, was a sage who specialized in exorcism and possession. As such, she might be able to help.
Tibi flies right past Gideon who makes no move to stop Tibi. He soon reaches Pherria who looks concerned. "You need to bring that man here as soon as possible. There is a ritual we can perform but I need him here to do it."
(In anticipation of Tibi returning and relaying this information to us...)Kaelani readies himself to physically move the man, but hopes to persuade some small sane portion of his mind to come with them. "Ravengard. You must come with us. For the good of all. We can help you, but you must come with us now..."
Tibi comes back and says "right Gentlemen Pherria says we need to get this fellow back to her forthwith. But short of asking Drabash to knock him out, I'm not sure how we're going to do that exactly." Hearing his name mentioned Drabash moves behind Ravengard and gets his axe out ready to knock him out when Tibi gives the command.
Drabash moves to help carry the man with the aid of Kaelani. Ravenguard is involved in the psychic battle for his mind that he does not resist in anyway your efforts to move him. You pick the man up and start to carry him out of the vaults and up the stairs. Upon reaching the top of the stairs you find Gideon watching you with some confusion. But his face turns to concern as he hears Ravenguard mutter in Abyssal.
"I knew it, this man is in league with the demons! Why have you not slain him? You may take him no further!" Gideon says as he moves to block your way.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tibi looks Gideon in all his tattered finery up and down "listen Joseph or whatever your name is can we have this discussion at a later date?" (Persuasion = 7)
"He is not in league with the demons - he is actually battling for his mind. If we don't help him, the demons might win and use him - and this helm - to flow into the area! Help us or let us pass...we are trying to accomplish what you could not." Kaelani adds. (Tibi didn't need any help on that roll!!)

Darvin looks askance at the man, finding it odd to hear Abyssal and Celestial intermixed like this. What is going on here?
